There is no reason why he would want to go to Boston. If Pierce can't win there, why would KG be able to? KG's already played with Wally and it didn't work out.

It wouldn't involve Paul Pierce. It would have to be a core package of young players from Boston and Raef LaFrentz instead. Or more likely a 3rd team would get involved in the mix.

Gerald Green + Al Jefferson + Raef LaFrentz + Draft Pick for Kevin Garnett

This would work salary wise and give the TWolves some nice pieces to build around.

A third team would likely get involved so Minnesota wouldn't have to take on LaFrentz's contract. Maybe the Knicks get involved by trading out Mo Taylor to get LaFrentz and a second pick from Minny.

If not the Knicks, the Spurs have also been keeping tabs on LaFrentz as a likely replacement for Horry and Mohammed down the line.

Salary cap wise that may work Shape, and yeah they would get a lot of young talent, but those guys could all be busts. I don't see a future star in that group besides maybe Gerald Green and he's gonna be a little better than Ricky Davis at best.

Personally I don't think Minnesota would do that deal because who would Minnesota say they got FOR Kevin? Lakers got Odom (tough to swallow but we all knew that's essentially what it was) for Shaq, Indiana got Peja for Artest. Net's got Kidd for Marbury... If Minnesota does that deal, there's no player on that list that warrants a Kevin Garnett. It's like trading in 5 brand new Volkswagens for a 03' SL500....I haven't seen a lot of VW's on Mercede's lots recently...

Good points, but here are two counterpoints to your argument.

    1) Kevin Garnett doesn't have the same value Shaq had when the Lakers traded him. Shaq is probably the only player in the league you could surround 4 mediocre players around and still make the playoffs. Shaq is also a huge marketing draw because of his personality.

    2) If you want to compare the Lamar Odom trade, I think Minny would view it as a failure for the Lakers. Through all the back and forth debates about the trade, the end result is the Lakers are paying a 3rd option on the team, superstar money.

Minnesota will already know going into any trade, they aren't going to get equal value in return for KG. When you trade your franchise superstar, you need to take some gambles and also give yourself financial flexibility.

Both Gerald Green and Al Jefferson have a lot of potential, are still under rookie contracts, and both are young. If you're the TWolves you're hoping one or both lives up to their potential and you start building around that player or players.

This trade would give the TWolves a salary cap of $47.2M for next season and 11 players on contract.

    PG - Jaric / Hudson
    SG - McCants / Hassell
    SF - Davis / Green
    PF - Jefferson / Taylor / Madsen
    C - Blount / Griffin

TWolves would also have two first round lottery draft picks to draft for a future Center.

In 2007 they would have the cap space enough to sign another quality player.
