everyone knows that they can't contend for a title, but why are the lakers trying to get into the playoffs? do they get more money? etc?
Lakers are either getting in as a low seed or barely missing the playoffs. I know as a fan I'd rather get the 16th pick(for example) and get in the playoffs than by getting the 14th pick and making the lottery. By making the playoffs you will attract more free agents. With a hardly noticable difference in picks of course your going to get in the playoffs. And who knows they might even advance if they play Dallas. Lakers seem to play good against Dallas. An upset is always possible. Also it gets more money for the organization by making the playoffs from ticket prices to more interest. I'm sure Kobe making the playoffs would sell more jerseys/shoes than Kobe missing the playoffs for example.
i wouldnt mind facing dallas. Lakers beat them twice already this year, one of them being the famous 62. If anything accounts to the sudden success of the Mavs this year, it must be the humiliation of that 62 game.

It is the whole point of playing, if they didnt want to make the playoffs, all they would have to do is not turn up!
They just won't lose on purpose, they are trying to prove everyone that they can play and are ready for any challenge.
