    WHy Coach K?

Whose idea was it to have a college coach as the head coach? He has never coached NBA players and is well known to be a disciplinarian type. An NBA coach should be the head coach of this team. Does anyone have any insight as to why he got the job over Mike D'Antoni who is I believe more familiar with the foreign leagues or even Nate McMillan who is also a great coach respected by NBA players. WHY?

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting KICKSDADDY613:</div><div class="quote_post">Which is why Team USA has made this a 3 year commitment, where the players will have time to grow and develope together before '08 instead of just naming guys in May, and tossin them out there 3 months later and saying "go win". A final injustice is all the fans, and the media, who lambaste all the NBA superstars, every year for the last few years, for not wanting to rep their country. Passing on the Olympics, thinking it's no big deal. Now, you have a couple true great NBA players, All-Stars who want to make theie country proud, in Kobe and AI, and one gets all the negetive (he's too selfish and a ball hog for this team) and one hasn't earned, or isnt owed anything. If anyone has every paid attention to the treatment, and the development of AI's career, the NBA OWES AI a whole lot more than an Olympic invite. </div>
I think Coach K had a much bigger role in determining who was on this team than the NBA, which might explain Iverson's absence. Honestly, I was going to argue that these most of these younger players will mature, while playing together. However, I really can't argue against Iverson, now that I've heard that Odom got to replace Redd over him. In the end, I think its Coach K who didn't want him on the team.

    Isn't D'Antoni Italian?

Kobe Bryant is just going to embarrass the international competition. The man cuts american defense into pieces. Just imagine what hes going to do to a bunch of sasha vujacic's. With that said...
    Billups
    Arenas
    Paul
    Wade
    Bryant
    J Johnson
    Battier
    Lebron
    Stoudamire
    Bosh
    Howard
    Miller

    Starting 5
    Billups
    Bryant
    Lebron
    Stoudamire
    Howard

If this ends up being the starting 5, team USA is going to be absolutely amazing. I expect a DOMINANT olympic showing.

Artest should be in the squad over Battier. He'd add an additional fear factor to the opponents.

if Artest isn't on the USA team, they're not going far. 3point shooting isn't important.

You need a physical perimeter defender. The best in the world is Artest.

Thats one of the stupidest things ive heard. Yea he is a great defender, but to say they wouldnt go far because of not having one player is a dumb statement to make.

    They did invite Bruce Bowen.

You don't need a physical defender nessecarily, because in International basketball the other team usually comes with a balanced attack. You just need 5 players who are defensively sound, and that know how to play team defense. 1 on 1 defenders aren't important in my opinion.

Against international teams that predominantly defend with a zone, IMO its a very important aspect of the game.

I also was surprised Artest wasn't on, especially when he expressed the desire to play during the last Olympics. However, Batter could hold his own filling in for him.

Let's just say both are very good players. I don't think you'll find a whole lot of support for your opinion outside of Duke Alumni and Grizzlie fans.
