http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/bask...n.ap/index.html Obviously a big disappointment with the foot injury; we had such high hopes for him to provide vet leadership. And with Bob Hill pleading publicly for a backup point even though Rick was coming off the injured list, you just knew his days were numbered.
I guess the acquisition of Watson and Wilks makes Brunson expendible but I would have liked to see this move done when we actually needed some help in the backcourt. Doesn't make much sense now unless we are looking to bring in a D-League two guard to back up Ray Allen. I have a feeling that we will see Rick Brunson on the Temple sidelines before we ever see him again in a NBA uniform.
Sad to see him go, but frankly, I never had high hopes for his success in Seattle. EDIT: No surprise here - Russell's out too

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Bobcats:</div><div class="quote_post">They waived Rick Brunson and Bryon Russell??? Rick Sund is a moron.</div> You are right. It's always best for a rebuilding team to keep aging veterans that aren't good enough to get into the rotation--especially when they are in the last year of the contracts (or even careers). What was Sund thinking?

I said it before but I'll say it again: it was silly and disrespectful of us to release/waive Mateen. They had to know that they were going to drop Brunson, so why couldn't we have just kept Mateen until now and dropped Brunson back when we dropped Mateen? Ridiculous.
I guess we were waiting for Brunson to get healthy so that he wouldn't clear waivers. That saved us about 300 thousand of dollars when Houston picked up Brunson--and it will also save us money if Russell gets picked up before he clears waivers. Rick Sund is not going to make an irrational move. There is an incentive to every move that he has made.
