San Antonio Spurs point guard Tony Parker ? aka French rapper Tony Pizzle ? has canceled his local nightclub debut scheduled for tonight at Club Antro. The last-minute decision left nightclub personnel "very disappointed."

The Spurs didn't want it to happen, said Lewis Sevilla, Club Antro promotion manager. Parker was to have performed with the Game Time Family and rapper Fabolous.

A spokesman at Parker's Game Time Family Productions, a rapper who goes by BU, said Parker, who is trying to launch a rap career, worried that the late-night gig would become distraction "or get Pop (coach Gregg Popovich) mad."

Parker has recorded a yet-to-be-released French rap album. But can Spurs fans rest assured basketball, not hip-hop, is Parker's main focus right now?

"Tony's got an obligation to the NBA," BU said, maintaining, however, that Parker will make his concert debut in San Antonio after this season, most likely at a bigger, all-ages venue.

"Tony canceled at the last minute for personal reasons. ... Tony made the final decision," BU said. "If we (perform a show), it's gonna cause a big distraction in the middle of the season. He doesn't want to get Coach Pop angry or the franchise angry. He's gonna let all of that die down."

On Monday after morning practice, Parker would say only that the cancellation was due to a scheduling conflict (read: the Spurs are playing the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday).

"The word out of (Parker's camp) was that the Spurs wouldn't let him do it," Sevilla said. "Let's just say we all got taken for a loop."

But Parker's rap spokesman stressed that Popovich "has been very lenient" about Parker's musical ambitions and that Parker's rap music "is not vulgar." </div>

I've said it before in other threads, I've heard some of his tracks with Fab and they are horrible.

I give him credit though for not taking the Ron Artest route of pursuing a hobby during the season.
