Chris SHeridan of ESPN INsider says Parker is the MVP of the entire league so far. At first, I was like 'huh'? I actually thought it was sarcastic. But he means it. But then when I thought about it, WHY hasn't he been mentioned before? He does it on both ends, comes up with big plays and has been consistent while Duncan has been off and on. He breaks down defenses probably better than anyone in the league. The Spurs could end up having the best record in the league and Parker is probably the biggest reason. I'm not sure he edges out Nash but he should be in the conversation.

Parker is overshadowed by Duncan and the rest of the Spurs, even when he outplays them. On any other team (doing well) he would be a mention, but probably not a serious consideration. For instance, could he do for NOK what Chris Paul has done this year? Maybe so, maybe more, but on a great team like SA he is just another great player. Same reason nobody on Detroit wins MVP, You would have to give it to the entire team.

No way Parker is MVP. The only way he can win it is Duncan and Ginobili go down and he finds a way to lead the team to more victories.

This is a similar situation to last year with Ginobili. Last year, Manu was a dark horse to win the MVP award. It would be unfair to hand Parker the award this year. Its really hard to give the award to anybody on the Spurs because of the surrounding players. Nash won it last year because of the impact he made on one of the worst teams in the NBA. Parker deserves the award as much as Chris Paul, if the Hornets make the playoffs. For me, the top candidates are Chauncey and Kobe. Shawn Marion deserves the award more than Nash. Without Amare, Marion has had to take care of the "big mans role," something he has done successfully this season. Although Billups is a candidate, I can't help but think about the players around him.

I agree 100%. Tony Parker is a great player on a great team, but IMO he isn't the leader of the Spurs. Nash is a great player on a great team, but he is the floor general, the leader of that team.

yeah you have to be the most important player on your team before you can make a case for MVP, personally I think Dirk has a real shot this year

Yeah, lead his team to more victories. Guess that's what Kobe has to do too right? Anyway, it's between Dirk and Nash. Anybody who doesn't see that is kidding themselves as much as I'd love to see Duncan get another one or have Parker get even a few votes. No more talk about Kobe getting it please. The fact that he all but destroyed his team last year should keep him out of the running from now on.

Elaborate how he destroyed the team. You are old and boring with this boring old story. Nearly everybody has moved on and accepted that everybody was to blame, not just one person, of course appart from a few narrow minded idiots who read BSPN and believe everything they read. You should develop a method of thinking for yourself, be your own man, don't let somebody think for you, it shows weakness.

Kobe is a leading candidate for MVP, not just because of his 62 and 81 point scoring games, but because of his constant scoring and his ability to lead some scrubs and the youngest team in the NBA to a current playoff position. If the Lakers make the playoffs, he deserves strong consideration along with Dirk and Chauncey.

A Laker homer telling me I need to think for myself and calling me an idiot??? [IMG] And in the Spurs forum?!? That's rich. The Lakers still suck despite the fact that Detroit lost to them. And even if the Spurs continue their charity effort and let them beat them tonight the Lakers are still a weak team thanks to their MVwannaP so I guess that makes my "boring old story" not so old and really more sad than boring. Nash and Dirk are leading their teams to contender status whereas kobe is trying to haul his piece of crap team out of the sewer pipe after HE flushed them down it. And don't give me any talk about redemption. The only way he can ever truly deserve to be an MVP is if he drops the selfish attitude and puts a little faith in his team. Oh and becoming a playmaker for other people might help too.

Oh okay, not his 62 or 81 points game but his scoring?

Begging the question eh. So he is a leading candidate for MVP because of scoring, which I guess makes Iverson and Lebron candidates for MVP in your opinion.

No, okay, well then scratch the scoring part.

So Kobe is a leading candidate because of something he hasn't and very likely will not do, that is, lead a team to the playoffs?

    Bad argument. Nutrider.

How many assists does he average? Oh thats right, more than most other SG's. He would average a couple more if it wasn't for the poor shooters on our team. If Kobe becomes a playmaker who would score? The answer to that is nobody. Even when the other players have to take shots, they don't. Take Luke Walton for example, he had the ball and could have hit the game winning shot, instead he passes to Kobe and the buzzzer sounds. He done this again this season against the Celtics, when Kobe was a decoy he could have passed to Odom for the game winning layup. It may be a Spurs board, but you haven't been here long enough to claim it as yours. I have made fair debatable posts unlike your e-beef whore like behaviour. MuMan, you want to call people names over the internet? Are you that much of a d*ckrider that you take this too personally and resort to calling people that you've never met names? That clearly proves that you are the one who is a fool. If somebody say's Tony Parker shouldn't be MVP, it means that they are idiots? You still won't understand so let me show you how stupid I would look if I called you a name. MuMan aka the pooman. You see how stupid that is?

He's scoring consistantly, with a 35ppg average, his assist number is still better than most other shooting guards in the NBA and he's doing other numerous things such as stealing the ball. He's leading the youngest team in the NBA to the playoff's. We are in 8th position so I don't see how you can say we won't make the playoffs. Your statements are plain BS, how can you say I have a bad arguement? Fact is, I have more reasoning to my posts unlike your spam whore like normative statements. Wake up and come up with a better arguement because statements aren't good enough. When you can deliver a better post, I will respond. Step up a level.

It's funny how Kobe talk surfaces everywhere and how polarized the two sides are.

Tony Parker will not win MVP, even though he is having an amazing season, the reason is because a much stronger case can be made for other guys like Dirk or Nash.

As far as Kobe for MVP, well I think you might be alone in that boat Laker_Fan. Kobe is an amazing player but so are a whole bunch of other guys. I can never think of a time that a player has won a MVP award while leading his respective team to a mere .500 record and an 8th seed. If I am wrong please let me know. Furthermore scoring does not equal MVP example: T-Mac has won the scoring title a couple of times, but has never won a MVP award. Also, doing all the little things and scoring does not equal MVP, example: Shawn Marion has had a monster year and is the only player to be a top-ten statistics leader in all major categories. If a strong case for Shawn over Nash for MVP cannot even be made, and considering the suns record, then what makes you think Kobe has a chance to win the MVP this year.

I can say with 100% confidence that Kobe will not be the MVP this year.

I will be glad to read anyone's comments, minus the personal attacks- they are not necessary[IMG]

I never said Kobe is the MVP, I said he's in contention for it along with Billups and Dirk. The others said Kobe has no chance, I just pointed out that he is in contention. My case for Kobe is his huge scoring while keeping assists up, the way he tries to get other involved now and more importantly in a playoff spot. If we don't make it, he shouldn't be considered but as we are 8th, he should be a top candidate. He has no support around him and is carrying the youngest and most overachieving team in the NBA to a playoff position. The only real support he has is Lamar, but Lamar isn't be used correctly in the triangle offense. We have Kwame Brown who averages around 6/6 as a power forward and we have Smush who can't play D in the PG spot. He is carrying this team to a place where it doesn't belong. This is my case for Kobe. I'm not saying he should be MVP, but he is a top three candidate for sure. As I've stated previously before, the playoff spot is the key reason for MVP consideration, feel free to read the previous posts, it's clearly mentioned in them aswell. [IMG]

OOOkayyy. First off, if Kobe passes a game winner to Luke "Puke" Walton then he's got a long ride yet to playmaker land. As far as Odom and the others are concerned, they prolly missed their shots because they were so shocked to have the ball in their hands for a change. Passing up shots is still a rare phenomenon with Kobe because he only tries it out once or twice then p*sses and moans like a little b*t*h when they don't make it the first time through. Winning the hearts and minds of your team and instilling them with confidence doesn't happen overnight. Kobe's too stubborn and impatient to keep up the passing effort and maybe sacrifice another season for a much better result in the long run. Instead he's too bent on getting the 8th seed and for what??? To have his team get their huevos handed to them in the first round? Way to inspire them. And as for all your drama queen crap about me calling you names, ***NEWSFLASH*** you called me an idiot first. So I guess that whole spiel about taking things personally applies to you by your own standards! And I never said Parker should be MVP. I said Dirk or Nash (non Spurs by the way) are the ones who should get it while you're singing the praises of your man Kobe. That would make you a homer. I'm guessing you didn't do too well in the reading comprehension part of your standardized test this year huh son? If they even have any reading standards where you come from. Oh and quality over quantity as far as number of posts are concerned.

Why do you insist on embarassing yourself? [IMG]

    Lightning round:

Averaging 5 assists sounds like a bloated figure for Kobe, give me your source on that one sport. Even if it's accurate, it's not much of an MVP figure (Nash more than doubles that).

The "sewer pipe" I spoke of was last year when the lakers WENT FROM THE FINALS TO NOT EVEN MAKING THE PLAYOFFS you tool!

And (once again) he can instill confidence in his team by giving them more chances to develop into decent players. That prolly means losing a few games since it usually requires a bit of trial and error but Kobe would rather win just enough games virtually single-handedly to get his team the 8th seed (and an *$$ whooping in the first round of the playoffs) rather than take the time to help his team develop.

I don't read ESPN. And you're a shame to the English language if you're a Brit.

    Enough of this. I'm out.
