<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Golden State continued its free-fall to the basement of the Pacific Division by following a 3-9 January with a 4-9 February. While an injury to Baron Davis has something to do with the Warriors' difficulties, the offense just hasn't been the same, either. Golden State scored fewer than 90 points in five of their last six games, and went 1-6 on the road in February. This disappointing stretch, combined with the coaching vacancy at Indiana University, has brought about the name of Mike Montgomery as someone of interest. </div>

He's down there with Larry Brown I noticed. Just goes to show it's more about the team you inherit. If it's a decent team with nice working parts + flexibility to change the roster, you can do something with it and make it better (see Hornets). Unfortunately the Warriors are like the Knicks since neither team has no chemistry, no defense, no rebounding, big deadweight contracts that you have to play if you hope to move some guys, etc, etc.

I had harbored hope that Monty was midway through some construction project that would be unveiled and give us all a warm, fuzzy feeling[IMG] . Well,it's fuzzy like the green salami in the back corner of the ice box,[IMG] and as aromatic. His tactics, his rotations,substitutions,in-game adjustments, talent development....rate a failing grade without exception. It was a demolition...hell,a carpet bombing, not a construction project. I find it hard to grasp HOW a coach with any ability could create such a mess.[IMG] [IMG]

This isnt the Knicks. They are overstocked with volume shooter/ballhog types who slack, pout and play no D.[IMG] Brown can coach...but got sent to a team with few coachable players and a GM who adds more as he makes moves. We have our big 3 bad contracts...yet even they do hustle. They may play dumb or reckless, but can't a GOOD coach at least improve such things? All of us have seen EACH of our assorted "Young Guns" show some real quality. So yesterday,we are dead in the water,no playoffs this year,Monty is a lame Duck...and uses a 7 man team, lots of Fish + Dunce...the under 30% guys[IMG] ...huh?

Baron got here a year ago,and not knowing MontyBall, ran a Run & Fun offense that WORKED. Well any FOOL says...[IMG] hey,we just build on that, well we don't have just any fool...we have a very special fool....[IMG]

And we don't have the same guys who slack, put out bad shots, and play no D? And no I don't believe a coach can get these guys to develop an inside game or make better shots because that's what a halfcourt offense is supposed to do for these guys and they can't even run that because we lack a center, smarts, and an all around game. We can't even run because we can't rebound or make good decisions passing or moving without the ball. Just at look what made the running game so successful last season. We actually rebounded and passed the ball up and guys hit the outside shot. Now when we run all it takes is Fisher to kill that momentum or guys bricking the outside shots because the defenses are packing in the middle daring us to shoot. Then when we miss the three it makes it easier for the other team to run back on us and score an easy layup.

If we were rebounding, had Baron healthy, and Dunleavy/Pietrus/Zarko weren't playing horrible along with Foyle actually doing something to catch the ball and finish, we'd probably be running. Also we would need to get back on D because you know the Warriors are absolutely horrible defending in transition.

“We were in the lead, and all of the sudden you give up five straight points, and I’m sure it takes some of the steam out of you. But we’re still up two. We should have been up a bunch, but we weren’t. So all we had to do was generate the same energy generated in the second half to get that lead back. We just got killed on the boards in the second half. We got beat by 15 rebounds in the second half. Even if we got a stop, we couldn’t get out, which meant we couldn’t run. It seems like we lost our confidence again. Guys were 1-for-12 in the first 12 shots of the fourth quarter.”</div>
I'm not a big fan of the substitutions that are out there, but our shallow depth at certain positions is what causes this lack of results on the glass and poor ball movement because so many guys are missing shots compared to last season. That and bad contracts which we have to play. Compared to other billionaire owners, Cohan is on the poorer side of super rich men and I doubt he'd have agreed to pay Foyle and Dunleavy all this money for them to be 9th man on the bench. Do you think Cohan knows what he's paying for? Is he a money ball type of guy who knows what kind of team he wants to build? Is Mullin that smart? We're talking about a guy who had everything going for him and he couldn't handle the pressure and started abusing alcohol. So I say cut the guys who were put in a position to fail, some slack. We weren't going to go anywhere under these circumstances anyway.

Plus, if we want a taste of the playoffs we have to get serious about defense. We give up so many baskets per game it's ridiculous. At least Phoenix plays better D than us last season.
