I don't comprehend why you'd be starting soon to be FA Al Harrington over the future of your franchise, Marvin Williams. Harrington is servicable, but is a turnover machine who doesn't rebound much at all (less than 7 in 36 minutes a night), and he is probably leaving at seasons end. Marvin is outplaying him of late in less court time yet Harrington still gets preference. I don't get it.
Because they dont want to give up on the season. benching their 2nd best scorer for a young guy is basically saying they admit that the season was a failure. I think these guys might actually think they can make the playoffs. now, I dont believe that, but the hawks must...
There shooting for a 30 win season, let them shoot. They want to try and keep Harrington, and resign him this offseason so this playing time scenario thing could be assuring him of his job safety.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting lessthanjake:</div><div class="quote_post">Because they dont want to give up on the season. ..</div> But my point is that i believe Marvin would be more value, so i don't see it as a stepdown by playing him over Harrington. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Buckets:</div><div class="quote_post">They want to try and keep Harrington</div> Then they're idiots. If they re-sign Al at the level he will command, and stunt Marvin's progress again, it'll be as bad a decision as passing on Chris Paul.

If the Hawks keep Harrington, Marvin Williams only value would be has a 6th man for the next few years or as a tradeable asset. I don't know, for the rest of you guys, what is more attractive? A 30 win season but no guarentee of improvement for next year or a 23 win season with the a stronger guarentee of improvement? My worry is that the Hawks lose Harrington in the summer and the organization just looks stupid. We would have wasted/lost any possible deadline deals (no matter how meager) and we would have lost the entire latter part of the season to improve Marvin Williams.
They would be morons if they resign Al Harrington this summer. Its a little too late because the Hawks being the morons they are didn't trade the pick or draft Deron Williams or Chris Paul.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">the Hawks being the morons they are didn't trade the pick or draft Deron Williams or Chris Paul.</div> Alright, I can't be the only hawks fan around here that's tired of hearing that. BK saw something in Marvin Williams, and I put my faith in him. Marvin's been improving constantly, and his potential is almost limitless. he's got the skills to do just about anything in this league.
Marvin Williams will be a good player in this league. Just not as good as Chris Paul, who they should've picked. This draft, they should draft Aldridge from Texas, if he declares. PG - Joe Johnson SG - Josh Smith SF - Marvin Williams PF - Lamarcus Aldrige C - Zaza Pachulia 6th man: Josh Childress
I'm not sure that Josh Smith would end up fitting in those plans. If Marvin shows sign of living up to all that potential, then I'd consider trading Smith for a point guard or a pick to draft a PG and moving Johnson up to the 2: PG- Draft pick/Traded player SG- Joe Johnson SF- Marvin Williams PF- Lamarcus Aldridge C- Zaza Pachulia It lets Johnson maximize his skills and you don't have to try and fit in Smith.
Smith has too much potential to give up IMO. He is very similiar to Gerald Wallace IMO. Both are great shot blockers at the wing, both have inconsistent jumpshots, good rebounders for SF's, and are athletic freaks. If anyone leaves, it's Childress IMO.
The thing is, if you fill up that forward position in the draft/free agency then you're forcing yourself to make a decision between Marvin and Josh. Personally I'd choose Marvin, because I think he can become more versatile than Josh.
It was a stupid move signing Williams in the first place, they already had about 6 SF/SG's when they drafted him, they should've went with Chris Paul, they needed a PG.
^ ok, we get it. Chris Paul, in heindsight, would have been a better pick. That's over and done with now, and I'm tired of hearing it. And, yeah, we might have needed a PG, but when you're as bad as we were, you take the best player availabe, and try to get talent. Marvin has that. he's going to be special in this league, because he can do so many things. Plus, we'd have been stupid to think that we'd be good this year. BK looked at this year's draft, and saw a plethora of really good PG prospects. he knew that we'd probably get one this year, so he took the BPA last year.
wasnt chris paul projected to go the hawks till marvin finally made his desicion(he made his desicion at the last second) or am i wrong??

I think I see what your saying Chutney, especially with LaMarcus Aldridge being a 4/5 type of player, Smith will either have to be trade or come off the bench.

I'm just saying, they will be making a big mistake if they let Smith go. You think Sacramento is kicking themselves now for letting Wallace go? The Hawks can't make that same mistake.

Also I like Marcus Williams but would you take him over some the more athletic point guards avalable?
^ Absolutely. He's projected around 17-20. Marcus is another story though... his stock is on fire thanks to his play in the tourney, and he could end up being a top 5 pick.
