What player would you rather have if you were about to start your team and you wanted to get to the playoffs?

I'd say Melo, even though i like Pierce over him. I think Melo will deliver whats needed to win.

Pierce is not really "too old", but Carmelo is so much younger, and Carmelo has been to the playoffs every year of his career so far, in the West. Pierce has been to the playoffs, but he made it one year with a losing record.

They are similar players even tho Melo is younger Id rather have Pierce, because he is a better all around player. Hes a better passer than Melo, but I believe melo will develop into an all aorund great player like pierce. There game is so similar, but as of right now id rather have Pierce

Now: Pierce
Future: Melo

Melo is a very underrated passer. He has good courtvision, even though he doesn't have the assist numbers. His rebounding needs to improve, but I'm sure he will work on that. Both are great scorers and are both great in the clutch.

Carmelo SHOULD'VE made the all-star game though. He was playing out of his mind, and now he's playing even better than he did before the All-Star break. Paul is better now, but Carmelo has 30/6/3 potential.

If my team was built to win right now, then Pierce would be the obvious choice. He's at his prime right now and one of the best SF's in the game. However, the window of oppurtunity is smaller than if you had Carmelo, who will only improve.

I'd take Pierce, he has arguably been the best player in the NBA in the second half of the season.

Making Allstar games doesnt really mean a lot compared to the season stats. Melo shouldve made the all star anyways.

paul for sure. experiance is always better then youth, he might be getting old, but he has years ahead of him, where he'll still be playing like he is now.

This is tough, but I'd go with Carmelo, this kid is maturing fast this year and doing incredible things with the Nuggets. He's as clutch as you can be, and very young. He can score in the post, from beyond the arc, and the mid-range jumper falls for him, as well.

Carmelo Anthony Per 40 Stats:
28.8 PPG, 5.5 RPG, 2.92 APG, 50% eFG%, and 55% TS%

Paul Pierce Per 40 Stats:
27.5 PPG, 6.8 RPG, 4.8 APG, 52% eFG%, and 57% TS%

Paul Pierce is 28, while Carmelo will be turning 22 I belive, this year. Sure Pierce's per 40 stats were better, but you have to include age and success. So far, like stated earlier, Carmelo has completely turned around the Nuggets, he's gotten them to the playoffs every year he's been in the league. Pierce had his shot in Boston to get the Celts to the Finals, but he couldn't pull it off. Now his team is struggling to win games.

I'd take the younger Carmelo Anthony over Paul Pierce any day to put on my team, even if his stats aren't as good.

Experience? Carmelo has experience winning. He led Syracuse to a national championship and has led Denver to the playoffs every single year he's been in the league, including this year. Pierce has been to the playoffs, but he isn't in any position to get there any time soon. Pierce is doing a hell of a job personally, but Boston is struggling. He's in the same situation Iverson is in, a great player, but not so great of a team. Melo, on the other hand, is leading his team to victories. They are 1 or 2 pieces away from being serious contenders, and Melo's very young.

yea but this isn't a question about the celtics and nuggets.. its about melo or peirce .. with the right players on either team they would be in the playoffs lol.. I look at pauls experiance.. .. its in his stats.. so to say your gonna add someone to your team. i would want paul on, he doesn't have to be a leader, he just has to put up those numbers to win.
