Syracuse just beat Cincinnati 74-73 in the opening game of the Big East Tournament, and I must say, I'm pissed. Admittedly, I didn't see the whole game; I saw the first five or so minutes when the Orange were just falling all over themselves, they looked absolutely terrible. Then I turned it on again to see them up big like 57-46, and then they let Cincy right back in it, and Cincy was up 73-71 with about 6 seconds left (again, Cuse was playing like crap for an extended stretch), and Gerry McNamara threw up a prayer running three, and hit it. Cuse wins. And now, just because the Big East now contains 80% of the teams in the country, that win is likely going to vault them into the tourney, despite a 3-9 record vs. the RPI Top 50 and one of the most inflated schedules I've ever seen. This is why the expanded Big East is such a terrible thing for college basketball-one win by a pedestrian team buys them a tourney bid. It also helps that Cuse is Cuse, an east coast tourney darling. I'm saying it in advance, if they get in-unless they beat UConn-it wil absolutely make me sick.

I don't think they should or will get in without beating UConn.

Of course, we'll have to see.

Really sucks to see George Washington lose to Temple, because this now means two teams from the A-10 will make the NCAA tournament. [IMG]

I think teams like Texas A&M, Colorado, UAB, etc are in some trouble now with some of the upsets that occured today...

Luckily teams like Texas A&M and Colorado are pretty bad so it isn't that unfair.

If it were up to me, I'd put the Wolverines in the tournament 9 times out of 10. However, the selection committee tends to really put a lot more emphasis on the last few games of the season than they should. That's why you'll probably see Syracuse in the tournament now despite having a really disappointing season on the whole, and that's why Michigan is likely out right now, going 2-7 in their last nine games, regardless of what they did earlier in the season. They're not a definite 'in' or a definite 'out' at this point though. A lot of it will depend on how teams like Texas A&M, California, and Maryland do in their conferense tournaments.

What do people think of the Pac-10 right now? Zona beat Stanford, UCLA beat OSU, Cal won I think, and Oregon is beating UW in the 1st half. Don't be suprised if a team like Oregon wins it, they're hot as hell right now [IMG] Chamberlain Oguchi had 21 points in the 1st 15 minutes yesterday!

The Pac 10 is likely going to get 4 teams in, but much like the SEC, I don't feel that two of them are going to be better than a lot of teams that will inevitably get left out-the Pac 10 has been very average this year, and teams like Arizona, Cal and Oregon have picked up some cheap wins IMO.

Watching ESPN's coverage of the conference tournaments is just disgusting. They're saying that Maryland should be in the tourney-Maryland! They've lost to everyone who is worth anything this year! Also, they're saying FSU should be a lock and that Seton Hall and Cincinnati are both locks, two, despite losing in the opening round of the Big East tourney.

This eastern bias is pissing me off to the core, and I am just fed up hearing the tools on ESPN preach it. Dickie V, Digger Phelps, all of them, just SHUT UP! Oh, and Doug Gottlieb is the king of tools, which is saying something considering who they've got there on ESPN. [IMG]

Yeah, they all want the Big East and Big Ten to have to most teams. They live on the East Coast, I think. That is why they are for them, but announcers shouldn't be biased towards any team.

No dude, they don't want the Big 10 to have jack friggin squat! If they had it their way, Miami and Rutgers would be in the NCAA tourney and teams like Wisconsin and Iowa would be out. They HATE the northern midwest teams, I don't know why, maybe because we play physical, we're just not sexy enought, but they just can't stand us, they want the ACC/Big East to get as many bids as they can. They've got to make up for last year when the Big 10 embarassed them all.

The Big 10 and the Big East are supposed to have the most bids, then the SEC, then ACC. They do favor the Big 10 and Big East in a way. They like those 4 conferences and nobody else.

    PAC-10 Recap

Cal destroyed USC last night in their Pac-10 opener. Leon Powe had 22 points and a career high 20 rebounds. He outrebounded the entire USC team 20 to 15.

Washington was upset by Oregon last night. The Huskies were flat to start the game, and the Ducks gained the confidence to pull off the upset. Brockman was taken completely out of his game, despite being the biggest player on the court.

UCLA destroyed Oregon State, and continued to play lock down defense. The Bruins are peaking at the right time, and with Washington out, they should be the favorites to win the Pac-10 Tourney.

Zona pulled off a gutsy win against the Cardinal without Hassan Adams. The Wildcats won this game at the charity stripe. Zona shot 30 FTs, compared to only 11 by Stanford. Radenovic did most of the damage for Zona, scoring 21 points and including 9 of 10 from the ft line.

Tom Brennan on Maryland (mid 40s RPI, one win vs. RPI top 50) beating 11-17 Georgia Tech to run its season mark to 19-11: "They'e in" [IMG] Are you bleeping kidding me? I officially hate ESPN.

It think UCLA will win the Pac-10, if they don't they are overrated. I hate Farmar, I hope they do loose.

Kam Taylor is the worst point guard in all of college basketball, bar none. Through the first 8 minutes of the game, we have 4 points and he has 3 turnovers and is 0/3 from the field. I hate him.
