<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">NEW YORK (CP) - The Raptors' Sam Mitchell has been voted worst coach in the NBA in a poll of 248 NBA players by Sports Illustrated. The vote was close, however. Mitchell drew 15 per cent of votes in the worst coach category, followed by Atlanta's Mike Woodson (13.3 per cent), Houston's Jeff Van Gundy (10.8 per cent) and Golden State's Mike Montgomery (8.3 per cent). San Antonio's Gregg Popovich drew most votes for best coach with 31.9 per cent. He was followed by the Lakers' Phil Jackson (17.6 per cent), New York's Larry Brown (17.2 per cent) and Detroit's Flip Saunders (7.6 per cent). Brown was also sixth on the worst list at 5.8 per cent. Popovich drew 53.8 per cent of best coach votes from players 35 and older. Players were not allowed to vote for their own coach. The poll is contained in the issue of the magazine that hit newstands Wednesday.</div> Source
Not that i'm defending Sam Mitchell, but how the hell does a player know how good a coach someone is if they haven't played for them. That poll seems to be based on popularity and track record for wins. Larry Brown is probably a very over rated coach. Sure he did well with the pistons, but so is flip. I think Dumars should get the credit for the Pistons.
nba players and i think alike. socially whats fascinating about the poll is that many white nba analysts argue often that black players prefer their own, yet the two worst coaches according to predominately black players are two black coaches.
sam mitchell is an okay coach..i'm not saying he is great..but i think we should keep him around for a bit--and we should re-evaluate him next season but as far as the worst coach in the NBA--i would say: 1) Atlanta's coach 2) Warrior's coach 3) Doc Rivers 4)Bob Hill 5) Brian Hill Sam Mitchell or Larry Brown (VERY overrated coach) would probably be number 6 on my list
... It's not just coaching that lead to that open 3... YOU have to come into play about PLAYERS AND MISCOMMUNICATIONS, would u say that if Phil Jackson was coaching instead of Mitchell and Daman Jones still hit that three?? Cut Sam some slack here, it's not all his fault and most of it is players faults too.
well when toronto played vs nets...jason kidd outcoached mitchell by putting jefferson to guard bosh it worked mitchell has the whole 4th quarter to adjust but he didn't he got outcoached by even a player that explains everything
Off topic but i don't know if i agree with the importance of the pole ... Jeff Van Gundy is near the bottem as well .. and i think by all means he's a pretty good coach. Not that i support Mitchell's coaching ..i just think the pole misses the target
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting i-eat-nets:</div><div class="quote_post">Wow, i bet you most of the votes were all from the kobe incident.</div> Just like the VC trade branded Babcock as a terrible gm, Kobe's 81 has branded Mitchell as a terrible coach..... I guess everyone in the league were dumbfounded by how he never made any defensive adjustments during that game. I do find this surprising though. I always though Sam was well-liked by everyone in the league but I guess I was wrong....

Bosh was settling for jumpers, and he has no back to the basket game, so he couldn't post Jefferson up.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Bobcats:</div><div class="quote_post">What could Mitchell do? Bosh was settling for jumpers, and he has no back to the basket game, so he couldn't post Jefferson up.</div> Bosh does have a back to the basket game, it isn't the greatest, but if he gets good position he could've still abused a smaller player like Jefferson.... There should've been plays run to get Bosh the ball in the post, but instead we saw Bosh forcing deep jumpers....
I think Bosh realizes now how to abuse smaller defenders.. The game @ home against the Cavs, when LeBron was on Bosh, he some how managed score on a smaller player not by posting up but facing up and taking it to the rack. You guys need to cut Mitchell a lot of slack, he's still learning the coaching side of the game. Hopefully he comes back next season and proves a lot of things to the critics and the entire league.
In the first couple of week of this season, Bosh only used his back-to-the-basket game. It was different to watch, but pretty decent, and slowly he started facing up and taking jumpers again. Its a shame nobody recognized that against the Nets. It would have been such a simple adjustment and probably could have saved the game for them. Mitchell really has to work on the offensive side of the ball. He knows his defense, its just the players won't listen. On offense, the team relies too much on iso's and simple pick and rolls. And when they need a set play, it always seems predictable.
