<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">GREENBURGH ? Now the Knicks have something to play for. All season long they were seemingly carefree as the losses piled up. Now they are showing a little fight, hoping to avoid finishing with the worst record in the league. Hey, it's something. "We're not going to finish with the worst record," Jamal Crawford said after yesterday's practice. "It matters from the simple fact that you never want to be regarded as the worst team in the league." Wow. They really care ? sometimes. The increased urgency played a role in each of the last two games, both road wins, which left the Knicks at 17-43. And there's no reason to let up tonight in Charlotte. Right now, the Bobcats, at 17-45, are the worst team in the league. Everybody's watching the standings and knows a loss would be embarrassing. "We don't want to be associated with the worst (record)," Malik Rose said. "If you're looking at the pick Chicago has, we don't want to finish too far in the basement because the further down we finish, the higher their pick is." Oh, yeah. It's a subject Eddy Curry knows well since he's the reason Knicks president Isiah Thomas parted with an unprotected pick. That's good motivation, too. "All this stuff, we can't really worry about it," Rose said. "If we get better and keep getting better the rest of the year, that's our ultimate goal." None of the players has stopped to question why it's coming together now. They're just happy to go along for the ride. "This has been different than any situation I've gone through," Crawford said. "It's like, 'Why is this happening?' We have a Hall of Fame coach and Isiah, I think, has done a great job putting all the talent here. We've just got to manage it somehow and get it on the same page. "You look around here (and think), 'What's going on?'... As of right now, we're not in the playoffs, so that's hard to grasp with the players and the coach we have. But we still won't finish with the worst record."</div> Source
