A swingman, theres plenty in this draft so finding a great one will be hard, some will turn out good some bad and one or two great. Anyways heres who I think the Magic should draft, I'll state reasons below: 1. Rodney Carney - Although his stock has dropped he's still a good player, he's an athletic freak and he can/could run with Jameer and Dwight. If the Magic could package there pick and someone like Keyon Dooling for a later pick and a better player it would be a win-win situation, getting the player they wanted and getting an upgrade at a different position. 2. Brandon Roy - Im a washington fan so this may be biased. The kid can do it all, he's got his go-to spin move that he lays down mercilessly on anyone and everyone at the college level, he can score at any given time and he does it within' the gameplan and offense and he can defend, what more would you need, but unlike Carney, Roy wont slip too far under the Magic's current pick which could be as high as 6 and low as 15. Only if the Magic get a top 10 pick will they be able to get him. 3. Mardy Collins - A player that can handle the ball and does everything well, no matter where he's picked he'll be a solid contributer in the league. When Jameer's out he could play point and when he's in he could be a two gaurd, a versatile guy who could be a great fit for the Magic.
I agree, keep Dooling. But another guy won't hurt. Also, I'd like to get another quality big up front.
Rumors are swirling about the Magic using their pick to select shooting guard, JJ Redick. I would HATE this pick since Redick is a one dimensional player. We need a good defender or someone who can contribute in more than one way.

I would rather trade for Maggette then draft Redick. Please, please don't fall under the Redick hype. Grab Mardy Collins or Ronnie Brewer instead if Roy/Gay/Carney are gone.
Mardy Collins isn't overrated, but I don't know what caused him to get the hype better players at Temple than him didn't get. I don't think he'll be a starter at this level, but he certainly will give quality minutes. I actually don't think Reddik is as 1-dimmensional as people say.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting TheGreatK-Bob:</div><div class="quote_post">I actually don't think Reddik is as 1-dimmensional as people say.</div> He's slow, can't defend, mediocre scorer besides his long range shot, and he doesn't have any athleticism. Pretty one dimensional if you ask me.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Swish15:</div><div class="quote_post">He's slow, can't defend, mediocre scorer besides his long range shot, and he doesn't have any athleticism. Pretty one dimensional if you ask me.</div> I agree with you to a certain point Swish, but then again there are something's Redick does that makes him more than just a shooter. When he first got to college I think you could have called him one dimensional, but in the four years he spent at the college level he went from averaging 3.3 free throw attempts a game to 8 free throw attempts a night. If you compare him to other guards he in the draft he got to the line more often than Carney (3.5), Brandon Rush (2.2), and Randy Foye (5). He also does a pretty good job on using screens to his advantage, and is a above average passer. Although, partly due to the time he spent with them, Redick always seemed to be well aware of his teammates strengths and weaknesses in college. He always knew where to get the ball and when. Although, like you said he is not the most athletic or quickest guy on the court. He is a great leader, shooter, and passer. He knows what his weaknesses/strengths are and he plays to them. Depending where the Magic land in the lottery he might actually be a pretty good pick. He would fit well with Dwight Howard, and give the Magic a threat from the arc if teams choose to double team Howard down low. With a big man down low Redick can be a very good NBA player. He won?t be a superstar or a scorer like he was in college, but with Nelson and Howard you got two scorers. Redick would stretch other teams defenses allowing Howard to have more room to work with down low.
I think Travis Diener is basically the same type of player as Reddick so I don't see why we need him(Reddick).
I wouldn't mind trading Dooling, I mean he played well torward the end of the year but if we draft a 2 then we will be stacked in the backcourt and I think Arroyo and Nelson are Far better players than Dooling.
You have to think now though. You need some defense and Dooling does bring that to the table in my book. If you keep a guy like Jameer and Carlos I think you lose a bit of defense. The offense will still be there but now look at it: Carlos- Scorer JJ- Def. Scorer Jameer- Scorer You wouldn't really be left with a whole lot of defense.
Yeah Dooling is a good defender (not great but good) but Nelson and Arroyo are both solid defenders (not Dooling's level but solid) The thing I don't like about Dooling is he turns the ball over alot (when playing the point) and he takes bad shots so basically that cancels out what he does on defense IMO.
Despite my love for Redick and wanting to see him in a Magic Uniform. I wouldn't complain with a quality guard or swingman that can be a good perimiter defender. The team can score some points as they are, adding defense would be a prime move.

You've heard why I don't think we should draft him, so why do you think he will improve our team?

But like I said the team would be better off taking a guy who can defend. I like Redick and I'd love to draft him but yes, for the sake of improving this team I'd take a better defender.
Here's a name that hasn't been thrown out here yet, but what about Shannon Brown(assuming he stays in the draft).
I like Redick for the simple fact that he can shoot the 3 which is something that we lack. Ray Allen alone shot almost more then our entire team. With Dwight getting double teamed and Darko having a mid range shot it will leave someone open and have JJ shoot a 3 is better then having Garrity take one. We also have 3 2nd rounders which we might just trade but I would like, If Deshawn leaves and Bo retires or doesnt get picked up, Gansey and Pittsnogle who is like Garrity a big who takes 3s but Ganesy looks like a hustle player kinda like Nocioni from Chicago. But who knows we might trade or take Euros with them. Just my opinion but who knows maybe we will be surprised again like last year or maybe someone will fall to us that we might not expect.

That's what I've been trying to say. We do need a SG who can shoot, but with Jameer starting, you HAVE TO HAVE a quality defensive SG next to him, so they can guard the better/bigger PG's in the NBA. I want someone who can shoot the trey, but I would rather protect Jameer with a quality D guy next to him. I would definetely like to have JJ, but using a lottery pick on a backup(which is where I woudl put him on the 2nd team) when you could get 3 pt shooters such as Gansey, Allen Ray, etc in the 2nd round.

I would even take Ager before Reddick
