<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">SAN ANTONIO -- Warriors rookie guard Monta Ellis likes playing in San Antonio, especially in the second quarter. Ellis finished with 10 points on 5-for-10 shooting in Tuesday's 107-96 loss to the San Antonio Spurs. He had a career-high 16 points at the AT&T Center on Feb. 25. After sitting the bench the entire first quarter, Ellis played all 12 minutes of the second quarter, scoring eight points on 4-for-6 shooting. He did the same thing last time, scoring nine points on 4-for-6 shooting in the second quarter last month. Both times he was matched up against Spurs starting point guard Tony Parker. Even more, Ellis even got to play some at point guard Tuesday, which was surprising considering coach Mike Montgomery's insistence Ellis wouldn't play that position this year. He brought the ball up on several occasions and ran the pick-and-roll with second-year post Andris Biedrins. Taft out for season The Warriors announced forward Chris Taft (back spasms) will not play the remainder of the season. Taft has missed 49 games this season, including the last 32. Taft initially injured his back during a summer league game. If it's determined offseason rehab won't do the trick, Taft may need to have surgery, which became an option after Taft's visit to a back specialist a couple weeks ago. A team official said the decision on surgery will be made at some point in the next two weeks. Taft did not join the team on the road trip.</div> Source
Man, Taft could have could have helped make a difference this year too. I'd rather have him playing the 5 than Foyle.
Exactly what has Monty watching the games and not seeing that Monta HAS PG ability NOW. Most of Fish's assists are just perimeter passes to J Rich or Dun. He rarely makes the pass on the transition, kills time and mostly takes too many bad shots. Despite so little experiance,Monta is clearly the better defender. Monta's situation helps illustrate Monty's lack of vision, creativity, not that he does not have other issues
Fisher would be a lot more effective if the Warriors had a low post presence. He has a good understanding of creating the right passing angles to feed a big man and get them the ball on the move. Fisher is terrible in transition and making decisions in traffic. Unless the Warriors land a post player, they need to trade him and give Monta his minutes. Teams with big men could use Fisher, Houston, Cleveland, Miami, and San Antonio.

Still, that's not what Fish said after he left Los Angeles and he hasn't said that now. He still thinks he can play starting PG without Shaq and Kobe. He's a backup PG in my book even though he may do better on the teams you mentioned. My grandmother can do better on the teams you mentioned .
as long as fisher is on this team, we can't go nowhere but down. He ain't no hero and hell he ain't no dominate player. Sorry about my ranting about fisher throughout this whole season but this guy gets on my nerves. He scored 27 points last night...i bet you if he didn't score so much and passed more we would of been able to steal that game. I saw the first half and all he wanted to do was look for his own shot. People like Ike, Dun, and J-rich were calling for the ball and he just looked at them and looked away and shot it. I hope we deal him this off season because he isn't cutting it for this team. He doesn't even play Defense at all. Parker torched him yesterday from what i saw, he didn't even bother guarding him. We need to deal him and let Davis and Ellis run this team not slow fish
So how do we get rid of the Fish and prepare for next season? Rest Baron, Play Fish and Dunleavy as point guards, get Fish's numbers up to 6 assists a game + double digit scoring + steals, Get Dunleavy's numbers up and wa la! We got Fish ready to go to some desperate team + Dunleavy could be a throw-in for some sucker GM. Teams with some boneheads on the perimeter but actually have some inside presence might appreciate Dunleavy's ability to get the ball inside with a pass.
At the trade deadline a lot of teams asked about Fisher's availability. I don't know what the exact offers were, but he still has trade value around the league. I think the Warriors were hesistant to make a trade because Baron Davis was injured at the time, and there was still a chance for them to make the playoffs. Maybe those talks are revisited during the summer
Shape, the other reason to hold on to him might be the fact they weren't getting anyone that was decent for him. Fisher does put up good numbers for a borderline starter. Offseason might be better opportunity.
I know Cleveland would love to have him, Fisher is better than Eric Snow and Damon Jones. I think he'd help them a lot, but theres nobody I want from their team that they would trade.

Monta is a better point than Fisher, Dunleavy, and Baron (on a bad day) Yet Monty plays Fisher at the point with Monta, Dunleavy at the point with Monta, and probably would play Bynum at point with Monta. Did anyone see Fish go down? I thought we might have hope for the season..

I can imagine the Knicks offereing Jerome James for him or something along those lines. I'd keep an eye on the situation in Miami. Pat Riley loves adding veterans with championship experience to his roster at the expense of draft picks or young talent. Right now their backup is Gary Payton, but he'll be a free agent in the summer and might retire. Derek Fisher would fit in perfectly with the Heat. He's familiar with Shaq, and doesn't have to be a playmaker because Wade has that role in the backcourt already. Plus Fisher can take the defensive pressure off Wade to guard the better of the two perimeter players. Fisher is also a better 3point shooter than Payton. The Warriors could try to land a player like Wayne Simien or Dorrell Wright and take Doleac's contract as the filler.
Well whatever happens, Dfish hopefully is on the move for something decent for us. It's not about winning this year, I believe, it's about winning for the next 5 or so years in a row. The minute Foyle/Fish got signed and Kwan was the first to jump on why that was a bad idea, I can see why this could affect the franchise badly. It ruins flexibility and locks up players that aren't fitting in. They are pieces that don't fit on this team that needs low post presence and playmaking and dribble penetration skills. They'd be great off the bench but they are paid starter's money for a long time. That's what sucks and that's why they have to be played if they can achieve some good numbers at least. I'm not in a hurry to call Ellis a better point guard than Fisher because of limited minutes and limited years of experience, but Ellis at least can attack a zone and is less inclined to shoot until he's got a good look at the rim. I still want to find out what Ellis is about before I call him a better point guard. In more minutes, for all we know, he could turn the ball over more, shoot worse, and miss free throws as badly as everyone else. At least he plays some good close man-to-man defense, though (with blocked shots). I hope we don't make moves for the short term... I hate not doing things the right way and then things fall apart. Unfortunately for the Warriors, doing things the right way is hard to define until things start turning around as a result of those decisions. It's hard when you've got the future unknown and an unpopular franchise. A GM has to play this basketball game like chess. If you can't think a few moves ahead, it's going to end badly. But if you can and the right opportunity comes along, you've got a good chance of cornering the competition. So I hope Mullin can make big moves involving queens, bishops, knights, and rooks and not settle for taking out the other guy's pawns. That's why this whole play Monta Ellis right now is great in theory, but does it help move Fisher or Ellis' development schedule? I think as long as Fish is getting good stats, it's going to lead to better moves in the future when market values suddenly start catching up to where Fisher is getting paid the amount he's given. I think that's the chess moves we need to do rather than toss the guy to the bench when he's got a chance to play up his value. We ain't going anywhere anyway and some rookies develop differently than we think. You don't always throw them out on the floor in a losing situation. That affects confidence.
