Quote:

Steven Hunter was supposed to be elsewhere. Samuel Dalembert was deemed Philadelphia's franchise center after signing a multimillion dollar contract.

    Somehow, that all got jumbled.

Hunter has worked his way into the starting lineup since a trade that would have shipped him out of Philadelphia was rescinded. That's meant a demotion for a very unhappy Dalembert.

"I thought I was doing my job, but obviously I wasn't," Dalembert said before the 76ers played Atlanta on Wednesday night.

The 6-foot-11 Dalembert has not started any of the last 11 games since returning from a sprained left ankle. Before that, he had started all 40 games he played this season. Dalembert, who signed a $64 million, six-year deal in the summer, said coach Maurice Cheeks never told him he was in danger of losing his starting spot.

"There was no warning, nothing," Dalembert said.

Dalembert has tried to remain upbeat, but said he would have to talk with management in the offseason if he didn't fit into the Sixers' long-term plans as the team's starting center. With five years left on his deal, his only option would be demanding a trade.

"(If) I'm not capable of getting it done, or I'm not good for this team, let me know," he said. "It's not the biggest deal. I'm not going to get hurt by it. It's a business, but let me know. When you're going to be in a place that many years, you cannot be having years on-and-off like that."

hmmm.......cant say im surprised, but i honestly think hunter is the better player now and should be starting. sammy plays bad defense and is a liability on offense. with hunter, at least he can score. i hope the problem gets worked out, and i really hope sammy regains the starting spot, because that would mean he is playing hard and isnt wasting the 60 mil

I wish Dalembert would suck it up and watch some tape. I really hope he knows that he fumbles the ball around like crazy as well as goaltend like a mad man. He doesn't have any post moves and doesn't really box out, just uses his athleticism to rebound. Hopefully, he'll toughen up and work on his game instead of complaining.

I'm happy with the situation, and Cheeks not just handing Dalembert his starting job back. The "trade" to NO/OKC has lit a fire in Hunter, and he is playing the way we envisioned him playing when we signed him in the summer.

Sam needs to realize that he has to show the coaching staff that he deserves more minutes, and eventually his starting spot back, both by playing hard in practice and in the games. He is one of those guys who needs a confidence boost in order to play well, and the only thing he wants to boost his confidence is to have his starting spot handed back to him. He needs to realize that he needs to EARN it back.

Wouldn't it been a great trade when we could've got Joe Johnson from the Suns for Sammy? Right now I wish we would've done it.

While is unhappy with his role I'm unhappy with his play and quite frankly I keep looking back at that Joe Johnson deal a while back. If Dalembert is unhappy then just trade him, maybe we can still get something back. Honestly I'm tired of all these players complaining about their spot on the team and pretty much asking to be traded.

yeah, that would have been a great trade, except we would have lost him to the hawks in the off season

Atleast we wouldn't have had to pay Dalembert 60 millions.

Dalembert needs a reality check. He was playing ok, but after he got injured its all went down hill from there. He needs to start back at square one, this offseason or something, and work on his big man FUNDAMENTALS!

^ What he said. But I'm also a little dissapointed at management and coaching staff. They see the potential this guy has and how raw he is, so why not look to try and get him the best big man personal coach there is? I'm sure there a quite of few of them just sitting around somewhere that would willing to work with Dalembert. Correct me if I'm wrong but is Moses Malone his coach, I'm not sure. If so he is not doing a good job at all. I'm sorry. He was an amazing player but that doesn't mean he knows the mechanics of basketball especially when it comes to teaching others.
