I was reading the paper today. The NFL section and I noticed something amazing.

The Packers defense currently ranks 4th in the NFC and 9th in the NFL.

Thats amazing. Now I know where 1-4 but can people quit blaming the D for 4 loses. It's turnovers and penalties thats cost the Packers. The D is rather good right now.

I know I said Bates would have the D turned around up on the frozen tundra.

Don't feel too bad Penalties are plaguing Saban & Co as well

It's a great scheme that makes excellent use of the talent the Packers have. I credit Bates for the job he's done thus far.

When the 3 losses are by a total of 6 or 7 points, it is hard to criticize too much anyway.

That is all Jim Bates. If he wasnt there, that defense would rank last in the NFC. The Packers did a great job at stoping the panthers running game

I don't think you can say it's ALL Jim Bates... Yes, the scheme helps a lot, but it also helps to have:

    - A healthy Grady Jackson
    - Corners with a full season under their belts
    - Young guys like Cullen Jenkins stepping up and making plays
    - Mark Roman healthy and playing up to potential again

Robert Thomas and Paris Lenon have also been nice surprises in the Linebacking corps this year. Not sure if it's "them" or if it's the scheme making them look good, but they are looking good...

This doesn't diminish GB's rankings in any way, but does anyone have a link to a site that shows the true defense rankings based on points allowed?

For example, the Cowboys have thrown two interceptions that were returned for touchdowns. That shouldn't count against their defense. In spite of that, I think Dallas is like 5th in the NFC behind GB, so its not a justification of anything...I'm just curious.

I used to have one, but I lost the bookmark.

Everyone in NFL loses close most of the time IMO. Dont know if stats will support, i will check some later

Green Bay ranks 14th in the NFL in points allowed. So either way they've exceeded expectations.

I thought Mark Roman was going to make more impact last season but looks like he is doing it this year?

Nick Barnett is great too, he has 50 tackles and 1 int.

They don't look like a bad group. Get a running game and you will win this division pretty easy!

Please do - there is no way the average margin of victory is 2 points. I would guess about 10.

That said, a good team will be the one to win the majority of those close games.

I didn't expect them to get up there this year and espcially not that quickly, this scheme definatly fits the talent we have. So far KGB has been minimal sack wise but he's getting that pressure, Kampman needs to be signed to an extension NOW! He's been playing great. Cullen Jenkins is playing incredibly well and even ol Kenny Peterson has turned some heads. Now if only We can get a fricken Running attack! Just when it looks like we may have one BOOM! Najeh gets hurt, I hope Green can step it up because if not he won't be getting the money he wants next season.

Kampman is locked up long term. Minnesota signed him in the off season and Green Bay matched and extended the contract. He's not going anywhere.
