<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">March 27, 2006 -- MINNEAPOLIS - Stephon Marbury and Kevin Garnett each spoke longingly yesterday about playing together again. However, Marbury wants the reunion in New York. Garnett wants it in Minnesota. The latter is likelier. In candid remarks, Garnett was wistful about his Marbury days, saying they had an oncourt "connection," and would've won a title had Marbury not forced a trade to the Nets. In his strongest remarks yet about his displeasure with the team's 29-41 record, Garnett said after Minnesota's 98-94 victory at Target Center he will push owner Glen Taylor to make significant upgrades this summer to make Minnesota a legitimate contender again. Insiders say Marbury is high on his agenda. Because of Garnett, the Wolves might be the lone team willing to take Marbury off Larry Brown's hands. Marbury guided the Wolves to two straight playoff berths in Marbury's first two years (1996-97). The Knicks have interest in Garnett, as does everyone, if he goes on the market. Asked if he'd want to play again with Garnett, Marbury said, "In New York, that would be great. Playing back with Kevin, that would be something, that would be talked about forever. I think for the NBA it would be great also. Because you get to have two guys reunited from when they were younger, when they were predicted to be [John] Stockton and [Karl] Malone." Garnett said, "I never had a problem with Steph on the court. I'm here in Minnesota. I always let him know: I'm going to be in Minnesota. He's always let me know he's going to be in New York. So we've got a problem." Marbury was coy when asked about returning to Minnesota, offering three straight no comments. However, later, he did not seem broken up by the idea. "If I get traded there, I can't do anything about that," Marbury said. "It's a business. That I have no control over." Marbury and Garnett have resumed a friendship since their breakup. "I haven't spoken to him about it, but I know how he is," Marbury said "He'd like it." If the Knicks traded Marbury to Minnesota, they'd need point guard Marko Jaric and perhaps defender Trenton Hassell in a package. To make the deal work, the Knicks would have to take back $17M in salary. The Knicks inquired about Jaric at the trade deadline. "I can't take any more of these rebuilding stages," Garnett said. "I've always said I think I'm worth being listened to." Garnett feels he'd have a ring had Marbury stayed. "Absolutely. I never thought anything different," Garnett said. "We were both young, and we'd had a decade of adding pieces. "You need two guys to connect. The chemistry Steph and I shared basketball-wise is one I shared with Spree (Latrell Sprewell) and Sam Mitchell. I don't think he made that connection with anyone else. I sacrificed. He sacrificed. We made it work." </div> Source
Weren't their rumors that Steph and KG didn't exactly got along in Marbury's first stint in Minny? Anyway, it would be nice to see those two together, but I don't know if it would work though. Marbury's a shoot-first PG and wants the ball in his hands anytime, anywhere. Garnett won't let Marbury destroy his team, but still... But hey, anything is worth a try at this moment for both the Knicks and T-Wolves.
Their's always rumours that guys didn't get together when they played before. Their were rumours that Jamison and Arenas didn't get along according to some people when Jamison got traded here. Definately hasn't seemed like it at all, not even close.
Kevin Garnett has surely lost it if he thinks Marbury his is answer for making a run at the title. The only way he's winning a title is demanding to be traded out of Minny. Dallas, Indiana, Los Angeles or New Jersey would be his best realistic opportunity to make a title run.
NY certainly have the talent to trade for KG, but will Larry Brown be able to give them equal role so they don't fight?
Jalen Rose and Mo' Taylor plus picks and/or Channing Frye is something Minnesota would definitely have to consider. If they want to rebuild, New York definitely has the pieces to offer them. Minnesota needs to face the fact that they need to rebuild and unloading Garnett's massive contract is the first step in doing so. Stephon Marbury and Kevin Garnett had great chemistry and that's something that will make them effective if they do ever play together again. There wasn't any on-court problems. The media gave off the impression that Marbury and Garnett had problems and those unfamiliar with the situation will easily beleive that. A team with Marbury, Francis, and Garnett can be VERY dangerous. Those are three players capable of going for a combined 60 on any given night. Garnett will also take some pressure off of Eddy Curry offensively and defensively. The only negative about acquiring Garnett will be his contract and that is never an issue for the Knicks. It shouldn't be an issue for any team, really. It's not every day you acquire players of Garnett's caliber.
The problem MrJ is KG wants Marbury in Minnesota and Marbury wants KG in New York. Which means KG doesn't want to play in NY and he holds all the power in the trade.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting MrJ:</div><div class="quote_post">A team with Marbury, Francis, and Garnett can be VERY dangerous.</div>It could be, but for these three to dominate, they'd need an open court, free-moving, fast-paced system, where the three can handle the ball amongst themselves (which LB isn't truly attributed to coaching). Then they'd need to have to have role players to fill spots like rebounding, defense, and perimeter shooting. The Knicks roster right has maybe 2 or 3 serviceable players, while the others are either too highly egotistical or too highly paid. This could be a realistic goal, but it seems close to impossible when Isiah's the one calling the shots. I'd want New Jersey to try and nab Garnett, but trading away Carter or Jefferson leaves a gaping whole in the offense, and I don't see any other desirable pieces the Nets can offer.
KG has got to move! Minnesota has done nothing but rebuild for so many years and even when they thought they had the team, they didnt. They either have to do a Miami and bring in ALOT of personal to help garnett or id really consider trading Garnett for Garnetts sake!

Starbury is the missing ingredient yeah okay Kev, looks like the elevator does not go all the way up. The bottom line is Garnett's not leaving Minneapolis. if he won't leave minneapolis to go play at the Garden and be the Indisputed Man, he ain't leaving it to go and take orders from Kobe. He's had his chances to leave. He believes in The Journey - good for him. EVen if he did leave, if Dallas, no way is Cuban going to trade dirk for Kg and in my opinion Dirk is a better player than KG at this stage in their careers. And Indiana are a shell of the team they once were. And who says the only way he's winning a title is outside of Minny? I understand that they don't have good pieces to trade but hey in two seasons the Heat went from worst record to Shaq-DWade game 7 of the east finals. stuff can turn around fast. They got rid of Kandiman and the slowest 2 guard in the history of the leauge Wally S. that was a first step. I like Troy Hudson and Trenton Hassell...ugh this team is a mess.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">A team with Marbury, Francis, and Garnett can be VERY dangerous. </div> Not as dangerous as a team with Marbury, Garnett, and Davis. I think Marbury should be traded to Minnesota, because New York has WAY too many people who need the ball. (Oooo let's count: Nate Robinson, Q Rich, Frye, Francis, Rose, Crawford). Dumping one of these would help the team, while Marbury will fill in a team with a hole at point guard loaded with talent and potential people to pass to: Garnett, Ricky Davis, Rashad McCants sonner or later, Marcus Banks.

Now thats one heck of a team! I don't understand the gripe about Steph being a shoot first PG. The man gets 8 assists per game! He passes! More than most that I've seen. While he isn't perfect he isn't a pass first PG, nor is he a shoot first PG. He is leaning toward shoot first but he still passes! The more likely outcome would be the trade to Minny because of the Knicks' money problems. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">And Indiana are a shell of the team they once were.</div> I dunno about that considering their big trade was mid way through and J. O'Neal has been injured and is still recovering. They will be a good team in about a year or so. O'Neal dominating the inside and then Peja shooting from the outside. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Kevin Garnett has surely lost it if he thinks Marbury his is answer for making a run at the title</div> Maybe you never know, small people can do big things ( See Clippers w/ Mobley and Cassel trade ).
Marbury and KG never had problems with each other from what I remember...the issue with Steph leaving Minny was money....Kg got paid a franchise max and Marbury felt at the time that he was equally important. But the Twolves front office didnt agree, so he asked to be sent where he could be considered a franchise player and get the top dollars. And when Marbury went to the Nets that is when him and KG kind of had a bit of a parting of ways. But KG and Steph never had on court issues like Marbury has had with guys like Van Horn, Martin, Q-Rich, who cant deal with his precieved selfish me first shooting style. Unlike those guys KG knew first hand what type of player Marbury was before they even played together in the league, they played together in AAU camps, and some of these other sneaker endorseed camps for high school players around the country during the early and mid-90's. Anyway, I think Marbury and Kg would be a good reunion, but I still dont think that is enough to put them back into the race in the west. I think giving up Hassell in a deal would be a huge blow to an already suspect perimeter defense. And the Wolves would still need to find away to bring in another consist bigman to play alongside Kg. Also, I think they would need to move Ricky Davis, like the other guy said the mix doesnt work if you have Kg, Davis and Marbury together....I think Ricky Davis' role gets lost on a team with Marbury because you know Kg is going to get his touches with or without Marbury, so Ricky Davis is the one who will get the least looks at the basket and that could lead to negative chemstry between Marbury and Davis.
