I'm following this game on Yahoo, but I'm curious to know how the Nets have held Phoenix to just 39 points with just over 3 minutes left in the 3rd quarter?

What kind of defense is New Jersey using and what are the player matchups the Suns are struggling with?

    Thanks.

I was watching a bit of the game when Prison Break was on commercial breaks, and Krstic was abusing Boris Diaw down low. He'd get great position down low first then spin baseline on Diaw, leaving him flatfooted. Amare is also very passive in coming over to help, and Nenad is most likely the main reason, although I haven't seen much of the game.

PHX is just getting murdered. Nets just has their shots falling, while Suns just keep missing. Since their isn't a game thread, this will be it. Post your game comments here. [IMG]

The secret to what the Nets are doing is that they are controlling the tempo....forcing to Phoenix to play at a tempo that they do not play. All
Phoenix has left if to score from the perimeter or off turnovers. Also, look
at Nash's stats. Kidd has simply out muscled the guy,; pushed him around.

Yeah, I agree. This would show everyone how important Nash is to the team. He is the initiator of every offensive play and Kidd has done an amazing job on him.

Thanks for the comments, makes a lot of sense because these are the same things Utah did in their comeback win a couple of games ago.

I think Utah exposed all of Phoenix's weaknesses and made a key adjustment in their approach to matchups. Normally teams figure they need to play small to match up with Phoenix, but Utah went big instead and took control of the game.

Seems the keys to beating Phoenix are ...

    - Control the rebounding
    - Attack the rim
    - Get physical with Nash
    - Attack Nash on offense
    - Limit turnovers

All this helps your team control the tempo of the game and really exploits Phoenix lack of size on the court.

Nash is very important I agree but it also shows that Kidd is still the best PG in the game he has just toyed with Nash tonight and another BIG win for the Nets, don't sleep on them they oculd knock out the giants of the East.

I couldn't tell you what they're doing, but they have played great defensively over the winning streak, and I think they're finally grasping Frank's complicated defensive schemes. They're not allowing teams many wide open shots, therefore they can't heat up or get on a roll. Kidd sparks the defense though, he rebounds great defensively, and consistently is shutting down the other team's best player. They are without a doubt the most underrated defensive team in the league.

Yeah those were my intentions with this thread. I wanted to make sure the Jazz game wasn't my imagination and just a fluke. This is the second time now, a team has beaten Phoenix with the same approach. I'm sure the Laker staff will be all over it.

Exactly. With Stoudemire playing nowhere near his potential, and Thomas out, Krstic had his way with Diaw.

Well Smush is going to have to become a defensive PG like Kidd ebcause Kidd may be the only PG able to stop Nash, and New Jersey is athleticly able to stick with Phoenix.

Wow, Nash and Amare didn't even score. Amare didn't play much, but still put up 6 shots. Nash played 20 something and I think put up 6 shots too and didn't score.

Shape, about Smush how is he defensively i havent watched many Lakers game. I just dont find kobe shooting most of the teams shots entertaining, anyways I know smush is a great slasher, but defensively I dont know much or anything about him.

The Suns lost by 38 points It would have been more, but Nets just sort of gave up in the end. (they tied 27-27 in the 4th quarter). Nash shot 0 of 5 and had 0 points. Certainly hope Smush could shut out Nash like this, but probably won't happen.
