The Grizzlies have won seven consecutive games, but have been winning them against inferiour opponents. This game will be a back to back game for the Grizzlies, but the Nets should not count them out because they themselves have won two on back to back nights.
Projected Starters
Point Guard: Chucky Atkins [imgl]http://www.nba.com/media/playerfile/chucky_atkins.jpg[/imgl] Atkins is an experienced point guard who shares minutes with Bobby Jackson at point guard. Both point guards are active and defensive minded, but certainly are no match, size wise, against Jason Kidd. Shooting Guard: Eddie Jones [imgl]http://www.nba.com/media/playerfile/eddie_jones.jpg[/imgl] Jones continues to a premier defender in the NBA. Look for him to do a very good job on Vince Carter. Jones is certainly not the scorer he once was, but he will take off a good ten points off of Carter's normal point total. Either that, or keep Carter shooting at a low percentage. Do not forget that Memphis always has Mike Miller to take off the bench to provide offense. Small Forward: Shane Battier [imgl]http://www.nba.com/media/playerfile/shane_battier.jpg[/imgl] The defensive-minded small forward will look to shut down Jefferson. Battier is taller and more physical than Jefferson and should give Jefferson trouble rebounding and penetrating to the hoop. Power Forward: Pau Gasol [imgl]http://www.nba.com/media/playerfile/pau_gasol.jpg[/imgl] Gasol is one of the top scoring big men in the league. He utilizes his size and skill to score with relative ease and when needed most. He is a capable rebounder and shot-blocker, but scoring is his best asset. Center: Lorenzen Wright [imgl]http://www.nba.com/media/playerfile/lorenzen_wright.jpg[/imgl] Not much better player than Collins, statistically speaking, but pulls down some rebounds in his limited playing time. The Grizzlies often like going "small", placing Wright on the bench, pushing Gasol to center, Battier to power forward, and inserting Mike Miller at shooting guard. Grizzlies: Keys to the Game 1) Battier must shut down Jefferson. 2) Eddie Jones must shut down Carter. 3) Gasol has to stop Krstic. In other words play defense.
[/div]
The Nets can not be playing any better than they are right now. If they are not playing thier best, then they are really a phenomenally capable team. The Nets have not clinched a stop in the playoffs yet, so I would not expect then to begin saving thier energy for the playoffs. If the Nets win this game, it will be thier tenth consecutive win.
Projected Starters
Point Guard: Jason Kidd [imgl]http://www.nba.com/media/playerfile/jason_kidd.jpg[/imgl] This game should be a field day for Kidd. All he has to do is post up the smaller Memphis point guards and distribute the ball from there. The Grizzlies' gaurds might attempt to pressure Kidd when he is on offense, but that should not bother him too much. Shooting Guard: Vince Carter [imgl]http://www.nba.com/media/playerfile/vince_carter.jpg[/imgl] This game is going to be a lot tougher for Carter. He is up against a very good, Bowen-like defender. Carter has the ability for get going over Jones one way for another, but it is not going to be as easy to do so as it might be against an average guard. Small Forward: Richard Jefferson [imgl]http://www.nba.com/media/playerfile/richard_jefferson.jpg[/imgl] Jefferson also has his hands full in this game. He is going to face a very good defensive player. Jefferson did play fairly well against Shawn Marion in the last game, but Marion seemed to be more in offensive mode. Power Forward: Jason Collins [imgl]http://www.nba.com/media/playerfile/jason_collins.jpg[/imgl] Collins will have his hands full with Pau Gasol in this game. He will certainly get relief from Robinson off of the bench, but Collins is going to have to really be on his toes in this game. Gasol is much more athletic than Collins and should be a menace. Center: Nenad Krstic [imgl]http://www.nba.com/media/playerfile/nenad_krstic.jpg[/imgl] Depending on who well Robinson and Collins defend Gasol, Krstic might be called upon to body him. If this happens, and Krstic succeeds, then he is definitly a gem in the making. Krstic has the athleticism to play with Gasol (if not better). This will be a good benchmark game for Krstic. Nets: Keys To The Game 1) Prevent, as much as possible, Gasol from doing what he does best. 2) Keep the offense flowing, by not getting intimidated by the defense. 3) Krstic has to play well.
