<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Jacque Vaughn learned if you need a ride, he's the guy to see. Rookie Antoine Wright has seen a display of humility he didn't know existed.
And virtually every Net player, coach and executive had no idea how unselfish Vince Carter is on the court.

Obviously, you learn more about a person as his teammate. So when Carter was traded from Toronto in December, 2004, the Nets immediately saw parts of his game they previously ignored. Or they learned things to dispel earlier beliefs.

"Before, I didn’t really like him," admitted Planinic. "Now that I've gotten to know him, he's a cool dude, a great teammate. He plays hard every night. Every game you might see something you never saw before."

It's easy for high-profile scorers to get a bad reputation. Guys who score? Selfish. Out for themselves. You know, jerks. But those around him insist Carter, 29, a perennial All-Star, is anything but.

"I didn't know him before we got him but he's a great guy, very popular with his teammates," offered team president Rod Thorn. "He's a very team-oriented player. He passes the ball…Just a heckuva guy."

On the court, Carter can take over any game with a skill level that often astounds. Off the court, he also has endeared himself to the team.

"He's just a funny guy," insisted Jason Collins. "The one thing I've learned about him is how good of a teammate he is."</div>

To me, Carter does seem like a funny guy that's really laid back.

He is offcourt but very serious oncourt. Overall I'm sure he is a very nice guy, who enjoys his situation right now.

Not really, he always has that happy go lucky smile whether we are winning or losing. It irks me.

No, he seems serious when we are losing or things are not going his way, such as him missing many shots.

He must be very humorous and likable to the fans and media too. That's why he got the most votes without being the best player for so many years in the past. (before Yao came and got all the votes.)

I don't feel the same way. He plays hard, I'm not taking that away from him, but I remember sometimes when we are down he's over there on the bench smiling and laughing. I've been to the games so I've seen it. There was one time we were close with Atlanta and he seemed to be joking with McInnis. It annoyed the hell out of me.

a perfect example of him showing his funny side is the cingular commercial (might not be cingular but its some cellphone company) when he was talking to his whole family while a reporter was waiting to interview him. lol.

haha one thing about vince is that he's always smiling. He's a very gifted athelete, and seems like a good teammate.
Whenever he missed game winners for us in Toronto, he would smile. Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semi-finals, he misses the game winner and walks off the court with a big smile:P

That's one reason and another is because the fans wanted to see him do some crazy dunks.

Vince gets such a bad rap for everyhting in Toronto but if you ask his old teamates he's a great guy and an amazing player. Even Chris Bosh who they picked over Carter was all smiles with him at the All Star game. Give him a break and he was right the only way Toronto would win was if he scored 25 a night which he did for almost 7 years.

The dillema with Vince has always been that sometimes he's too nice. None of us here in T.O. or anywhere else every proclaimed VC to be a selfish dude. He's one of best people that ever playd in the game.

I had the pleasure to talk to him few times for good length and he was extremely humble and yes, funny. The things that ruined his reputation were his constant injuries in the past, which he had no control over; his laid back demeanour in losses; and his trade demand that topped it all of with Raptor fans.

But, in all honesty, he's a great guy.
