Who do you all think the Hawks will draft? Post your logical reasons why and whom they will draft. Tyrus Thomas is my pick because they need a big man and he's exactly what they want, an athletic superfreak that plays defense. He can run with them and he can block shots better than J-Smoove, he's only 19 so he's most likely got another half an inch or inch left to grow so by the time he's done growing he'll be roughly 6'10", although he's skinny he's a beast athletically, that makes up for most of his weak points in his game. If they draft him Al and Josh can go back to playing SF like they're used to.
...Are you serious? Thomas is a 4 who can potentially play the 3 right now, do you really want that? You got 2 3's who can potentially play the 4 next year in Josh Smith and Marvin Williams. LaMarcus Aldridge should be a no brainer to pick if hes on the board. And I seriously doubt Al Harrington will be back next season

However I do agree that Aldridge is the better choice. If he is off the board your options then become Tyrus Thomas or trade down and get a point guard. If the Hawks where to trade down they should look at either Rajon Rondo or Mardy Collins. Neither Foye nor Brewer would fit the team well withJoe Johnson on it.
The last thing the Hawks need is another lottery pick. The only player worth drafting in the top 5 is Aldridge, but I'm positive he'll be gone before the Hawks pick. The Hawks have a lot of youth on this team already and they need to start balancing out their roster with veterans and a stronger bench. The Hawks are better off trading the pick and moving down the draft or out of the draft entirely. They should target Luke Ridnour or Sebastian Telfair and use their pick to acquire either of them. Why those two? These two players thrive in a uptempo system and are playmakers. Joe Johnson is doing a great job of running this team, but having another player capable of shouldering the playmaking duties would make JJ a more efficient player. Sebastian Telfair would be the ideal target because he would bring the fans back to Atlanta. He hasn't really fit in with Blazers since Nate took over, and I'm sure he could be acquired for the Hawks 1st round pick. Telfair + 30th pick in 2006 for ATL's 4th pick in 2006 is a deal the Hawks should pursue if Aldridge is off the board. Projected lineup PG - Telfair SG - Joe Johnson SF - Marvin Williams PF - Josh Smith C - Zaza Pachulia Bench - Childress, Stoudamire, Edwards
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Neither Foye nor Brewer would fit the team well withJoe Johnson on it.</div> I agree that Brewer wouldn't fit, bit I think Foye would be great for us. JJ is a great playmaker, so Foye doesn't need to be the guy to set up the offense. he'd be great to break presses and whatnot <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The only player worth drafting in the top 5 is Aldridge, but I'm positive he'll be gone before the Hawks pick.</div> actually, his horrible performance against LSU has him falling in scouts' minds. he might be there at the 4 spot for us. that said, I'd like to see us get a pair of mid first rounders, so we can fill both our holes at PG and C. maybe send our first for the hornet's pair of picks in the late teens. there, we could snag marcus and shelden williams. lineup: PG- Marcus SG- Joe Johnson SF- Marvin Williams PF- Josh Smith C- Shelden Williams Bench- Chillz, Zaza, Salim Thoughts?
It was a thought and I think it might've been kind of biased even though I tried not to think of him as the first option. Playing the four is best for him because as you said his dribbling is average or just good enough to get by and he doesnt need to play 3 cause like you said how many threes do the hawks already have? They should trade their pick like Shape said though, that would be best.
They should draft Andreas Bargnani since the Hawks don't have any really tall player right now. They're an undersized team, and if they want to even think about being contenders, they need a big body inside. Bargnani is a poor man's Milicic and is 7'0. He could make this team more competitive. If they decide to draft someone else, then the Hawks should involve themselves in a trade (probably with Al in s&t) or else they need to sign a center (Nazr Muhammed)
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Bargnani is a poor man's Milicic and is 7'0</div> not even close. more like the poor man's nowitski. Bargnani is a SF, through and through. the crazy thing is, at 7', hes got the speed to be a SF. that's pretty wild.
From what I've heard, Bargnani is gonna look more like a Pau Gasol than a Dirk when he gets to the league, and I don't think the Hawks need anything more than a Gasol-type player (not even a PG) - a guy who can actually control the offense in the paint, whether it be passing the ball out, finishing strong, or stepping back for the jumper, not to mention being a great help defender. That said, I obviously hope they take Bargnani, but I think Tyrus Thomas could be that same type of player. Only problem is, he's 6'9, just like basically the whole team. So, if I were the GM, it would be Bargnani in the first round, then use the second round pick just to get some toughness, maybe a Guillermo Diaz, a thunder and lightning of sorts with Salim, to come off the bench. PG - Ivey, Salim, JJ SG - JJ, Diaz, Chill SF - Smoov, Marvin PF - Bargnani, Batista C - Pachulia, Bargnani
OVer the last few weeks I've had the opportunity to watch some Euroleague games and even though Bargani was struggling through most of those games he doesn't look too bad to me. However, no one should kid themselves into thinking that Bargani is this polished post presence etc. He is really a 3/4 with a small forwards mentality I find. From what I've seen, he's fast enough to beat Euroleague 4's off the dribble but I'll guarentee you that he's going to have a lot of problems defensively in the NBA against 3's with their speed, and 4's with their strength. His post game isn't very impressive at all, to me. His face up game and shooting is impressive though. In their loss against Pana.... the team from Greece he looked good but not great to me. I don't think that he suits the Hawks at all. They would be taking another 3/4 player, one that doesn't offer anything the Hawks immediately need. Bargani will not be a Gasol type player, if he develops he would be more like Dirk but faster and with less post moves. If the Hawks decide to take a big, they need to look for a legit post. Bargani will not address any of the Hawks problems.
The Hawks <u>have</u> to go after a point guard or a centre, theres no but's about it. I would say go after Patrick O'Bryant or Randy Foye, the Hawks are already stacked with forwards after last years draft and F/A period. I wouldnt mind the idea of Shelden Williams either, him and Josh Smith in the front court would be very interesting.

I think they would benefit from trading down to the Hornets 12th and 15th picks to get a big man (O'Bryant, Simmons, Splitter, Sene, S. Williams, etc.) and a PG (Lowry, Foye, Washington, M. Williams, Rondo, Rodriguez, Farmar, etc.).
Well I think its stupid trading down picks and stuff just because some player might not be worthy of being picked that high. If you ask me, your team picks the player it needs most with the pick it has, who cares where a player goes in the draft.
^ Amen dude. Plus, Foye wouldn't be that huge a reach at 4. he's projected to go at 6, so it's not like a massive Josh-Childress-at-6-type reach.
^ Foye's not predicted to go Top 6, he's predicted to go lottery. Hopefully he goes as high as your hoping though. I think he could go well with the Hawks although he sometimes seems like a shoot first PG he's got size and will probably adapt his game to play at the higher level so he'll be good to go.
^He might not be pass first, but he's got the sickest handle i've ever seen. and that's what we really need.
We need a PG guys, or a big man like Tyrus Thomas. We DO NOT need another SG/SF. Do you seriously know how many of those we have that are up and coming? OT- I am back guys!
