<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">DURHAM -- Fans of the North Carolina men's basketball team have been excited for months about who's coming to UNC. On Wednesday, they got excited about who's staying. Tyler Hansbrough, who recently wrapped up the most prolific freshman season in the history of UNC's tradition-rich program, has decided to return for his sophomore year. Hansbrough announced that he will not enter the NBA Draft, even though he received information from UNC coach Roy Williams that he would be a first-round pick. Internet message boards lit up with electronic sighs of relief, but Hansbrough's comments indicated that there wasn't much reason for fans to be so concerned. "I never really considered leaving for the NBA after this season," Hansbrough said in a statement released by UNC. "However, Coach Williams still provided me information he learned from his contacts in the league, and after listening to that information, I still think it is best for me to come back and be with my teammates again and hopefully have another fantastic season. "The NBA is definitely a goal of mine down the line, but right now I am enjoying college a great deal and feel I can improve in every phase of my game. I enjoy school, my teammates and being part of the Carolina basketball program." Gene Hansbrough, Tyler's father, said in a telephone interview Wednesday night that he and his son rarely discussed a potential jump to the NBA. The first time they talked about it, the elder Hansbrough said, was when Williams called a few days ago to let them know what information he had obtained. Gene Hansbrough said Williams told Tyler that he likely would be a lottery pick, which means he would have been chosen within the first 14 selections of the draft. "I asked Tyler to tell me what he wanted to do," Williams said in a statement. "He stated he easily wanted to stay in school and felt he could improve as a player. I agreed with that, but at the same time I wanted him to know he would definitely be a No. 1 draft choice this year, and I wanted him to do what he wanted to do." Even with the prospect of millions of dollars just a few months away, Tyler Hansbrough never came close to leaving. "I don't think it really mattered to Tyler at that point," his father said. "He wanted to stay in Chapel Hill and compete another year and see if he could help the team do a little better." The Tar Heels completed the 2005-06 season with a 23-8 record, falling to George Mason in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. UNC finished in second place in the ACC after being picked sixth during the preseason, and Hansbrough was a major reason why the Tar Heels were so successful. </div> Source
Great decision. He will improve his game and will be a lock for the lottery next year (barring any injuries, or a serious dropoff).
This is AWESOME. Along with a great recruiting class this is going to be an awesome year. It's time to get excited Tarheel fans
I've always loved the Tarheels because well there the Tarheels and there title run a year back made me like them even more but this eason my love for them just dropped of somewhere, but because of who there getting I think somehow my love for the tarheels might've be re-ignited.
They'll be good next season. With all of the prospects coming in. Hansbrough, Brandan Wright, Wayne Ellington, Reyshawn Terry, Tywon Lawson, Bobby Frasor.
