<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">SAN DIEGO ---- San Diego State basketball standout Marcus Slaughter said Wednesday that he's declaring for the NBA draft and has signed with an agent, effectively ending his college career.

A press conference at San Diego State is expected Tuesday. But the signing with agent David Fegan on Wednesday morning eliminates any chance of Slaughter reversing course before submitting the required paperwork to the NBA.

"They say there's a good chance of me being in the first round, which is where I want to be picked," Slaughter said. "I feel I did everything I could do in college. I won and if I were to come back, it would not help me.

"There's no reason to come back. It wouldn't help me get to the next level if I came back. It can only hurt me.

"I made the decision based on that. This has been my dream, and now I have the opportunity."

The 6-foot-9, 220-pound junior forward averaged 16.5 points and 11.0 rebounds and was a first-team All-Mountain West Conference selection this season as the Aztecs went 24-9 and reached the NCAA tournament for the just the second time in two decades. He was MVP of the Mountain West Conference tournament in which he scored 49 points and grabbed a record 46 rebounds over three games.

The 21-year-old Slaughter finishes his San Diego State career ranked 10th in school history with 1,211 points and third with 775 rebounds.

"There was nothing else for Marcus to do at San Diego State," said Dwight Slaughter, Marcus' father. "We're very happy for those three years at San Diego State, and we're very happy with Coach (Steve) Fisher and what he taught Marcus. He's a great coach, but we feel coming back for another year was just futile.

"He's mature, he's mentally ready and he's physically ready."

Marcus Slaughter's departure assures that at least one of the team's two all-conference players won't return. The other, guard Brandon Heath, said more than a week ago that he will also declare for the draft.</div>

Bad move, I think another year would've done him good, not that he's bad but he could've boosted his stock higher to have more money and more college experience ya know?

Actually it was a smart move by Slaughter. He actually has a chance to be drafted in the late second round this year. If he waited and came out in 2007 he would have no chance.

He would if he came back and had another good year, being drafted don't always means you'll make the team. 2nd round don't have guaranteed contracts but they only give their rights to the team [IMG] Him and Heath should of came back but I think Heath will comeback because he's only testing the waters. I really like Slaughter's potential because he's got a NBA type body though....
