    Joakim Noah: "NBA is boring"

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">While NBA GM's are anxiously waiting to hear whether Florida seven-footer Joakim Noah will declare for the draft, the college player has already made a pronouncement on the NBA: it's boring. Noah said that he went to a Nets-Knicks game last season and left in the middle because he found the game too slow, too boring. It was, he said, the last NBA game he has attended. Noah, projected as high as top 5 in this year's draft, contrasted the NBA with the college game which he said was "just so fun".</div>

He may think that the NBA is boring now, but will he be saying that when he's making a buttload of money playing in it?

Yup, just wait till he gets his first paycheck from the league. I don`t think that would be boring...

Why do people say things like this? i really don't get how people can say college ball is more exciting than the NBA?

First of all the nba has better athletes, the best in the world. Its faster paced, higher scoring and more competitive. I'd like to see how Noah would stand compared to the lebron's, kg's , kobe's and duncan's of the world. Its easier to look good playing next to guys who will be playing in europe or working at factories when they leave college...

True the level of play is better than college, but that's one of the things that slows the game down. It's higher scoring because they play longer, and the big thing for me is that they play with more heart and passion in college. Less ego's, more team in every game. Not really knocking the NBA, but I've found this to be true.

One of my favorite quotes of all time is this, "There are two reasons to play the game, for love or for money." In college, the players love the game and will do anything they can to win. In the NBA, you have the Latrell Sprewell's who demand more money and are really selfish. Also, I think the NCAA Tournament is more exciting than the NBA playoffs because it's a one game thing. Unless you bring your A game each and every game, your team will be eliminated. On the other hand, the NBA playoffs is a bunch of seven game series that drag one round of the playoffs out for a long period of time.

College is a lot better to watch if you enjoy actual team play. College players put NBA players to shame in the hustle and passion for the game.

The NBA has become more of a one on one league, and only a few teams play the game the right way. And those teams are the ones dominating the NBA right now because they understand the concept of sharing the basketball and playing tough on defense.

In college you see players diving, scrapping, and laying it all on the court every single game. It's rare to see the same effort given at the pro level.

NBA players are always commenting on how playing college ball was their favorite time.

As for the money aspect, Joakim Noah's family is loaded already.

What he says now and after he wins tourney MVP and a national title might be different. Wanting to leave on top might be best for him, I mean you fully accomplish everything you could dream as a college player what make's it exciting then? For him it then it wold be a challenge to get to the next level when his stock will never be higher.

I just had this discussion with a friend of mine. Granted, it was more about baseball, but...

    I like this qoute.

Everyone starts out playing for the love of the game. But then if you're good enough, it eventually becomes about the money. Or atleast it seems to be that way. Even players that are coming out of high school are constantly being told just how great they are; how great they could be. And not to mention, just how much money they could be worth.

And once they make it to the pros, attitudes and egos do take over. Somewhere along the way, they seem to have lost that love. Not all players are like that though. These are the ones that are either playing overseas. Or have more benchtime than playing time.

Couldn't agree with you more. A perfect example is March Madness. What other tournament do you have 65 teams playing their cuts out for 40 minutes straight? You can't beat the student section roaring after a turnover. The NBA to me is boring because 82 games is WAY too much. The only exciting part is seeing three teams try and get into the playoffs so they can lose to the Pistons.

    Watch more college ball [IMG]

It doesn't matter, NBA is a buisiness, not about fun and games. College ball is exciting whatever, but it's more entertaining to watch the NBA, because as somone already said: the players are more skilled, so you don't have to see these guys always missing the three.

Probably it's just me, but i think NBA is better, it's not boring and you don't only have to tune in at March to see good games.

Why do people think they play with more heart in college? Just cause they throw their bodies around and run for 40 mins. straight? Part of the game is mental too and PACING yourself and picking your spots. Most of the college kids know that they ain't going to the NBA so they play for fun, whatever it's not their #1 thing. The NBA players however - this is their LIFE, and there's a difference between a grown man at 28 or 30 making the career of his LIFE versus college kids playing hard just cause march madness is "fun". Nobody cares who won the NCAA last year or the year before, but everyone knows who won the NBA title. Otherwise Christian Laettner would be as famous as Michael Jordan. More money more pressure and when the pressure gets hot, that's when the real chefs start cookin.

It's not about looking good playing. It's not all about stats. It's about enjoying playing.

Have you watched a college game? Guys cry at the end of games during March Madness, how many times do you see NBA players cry at the end of a 1st round game?

There's much more parity in college basketball, which is why I like it. There's at least 10-15 teams taht could win it all when March Madness starts(and I doubt at least 2 of the teams still in it were in those top 10-15 teams before), while you are fighting with 3-4 teams for the title in NBA. Also have you ever been in a student section of a big time school? I've been to my fair share of Orlando Magic games, including game 4 in the last playoff series we've been in-when we went up 3-1 on the Pistons and none of them compare to the Florida Gator games that I've been to. i would rather go see Florida beat Georgia(worst in the SEC East) then Detroit beat Atlanta(best vs. worst)

Also the kids in March Madness realize that this could possibly be the last time they ever play basketball, so they pour their hearts out on the floor, while NBA, they can just play next year. I just think the emotions are way more in college games in the stands and on the court.

btw, more people watch March Madness than the NBA playoffs, so I'm sure they know who won the NCAA tournament. Christian Laettner's shot gets shown a countless amount of times during the NCAA tourney, he's famous as hell for that. People know the famous NBA players over NCAA, because pros play 10-15 years, while you only play 4 max in college.

Then you talk about pressure situations. You see more highlights of college basketball game winners and crazy plays and more people remember those shots then NBA game winners.

I would rather watch a kid playing because they are having fun, then people who are just playing to pick up a paycheck.

I can't say I disagree with Noah either. The quality of play is much better in the NBA, but college games are more intense and entertaining. And, with the new handcheck rule, the NBA's moving away from the team game.

Then again, it might be because he was watching two mediocre teams. Phoenix and Detroit are the two most enjoyable basketball teams to watch in the world.

It's not just exciting in March, if you lose 12-13 games, you likely won't make the tourney, so every game is even more important in college then in the NBA.

You just answered your own question. College kids run their motor all game long.

The NBA has more talent, but the fundamentals are lost on a lot of these talented kids. They don't know how to move without the basketball, they don't give a damn about defense, they don't understand clock management, etc., the list is very long.

The talent is only great when you have a player who understands how to use their talent within the framework of the team.

The NBA has become a league based on a player's potential, instead of what they are actually doing. A lot of the teams in the league aren't playing for the current season, they are just developing their players so they can be good 4 or 5 years down the road.

In College it's the exact opposite. They put the 5 best players on the floor who can function in their specific roles. Let's look at Duke for example. The player with the most upside on their team is Josh McRoberts. If Duke was in the NBA, he would be playing a lot minutes even though he's not ready. Instead Duke is using their veteran players who are fundamentally sound and understand the offense inside and out.

GatorsowntheSEC really hit the nail on the head that being in college, in March, this could really be the last time they ever play basketball in their life. These players are STUDENT-Athletes as in Students first. 90% of the players you watch in college ball, you won't see again in your life, ever. They just want to bring the school something and go out with some dignity while they're at it.

I agree, the Spurs, Suns and a few others are the most enjoyable. However, teams who share the ball and run their offenses as efficiently as those two teams are few are far between in the NBA.

In College every team plays within the offense, because the Coach has the ultimate power on the sideline. If you don't play their way, you don't get to play.

In the NBA the players have a lot more say and control into what goes on. Most GMs and owners will side with their franchise player and simply fire their headcoach.
