You're not comparing Laettner to Jordan, are you? Lattner will be remembered as a great college player. Jordan will be remembered as the best of all time at any level that over a long stretch was a 14-time all-star, 3-time all-star MVP, won 6 titles, 5-time MVP, 9-time... do I really need to go on? In the NBA they used to market the team, but now they market individuals. So maybe the casual fan doesn't know who Christian Laettner is, but I bet most are familiar with Duke basketball.

Why do so many little old ladies love the Braves? They see them all the time, they get to know them, they root for them. I'm that way with my college team. But with the NBA, it's the same and it's different. You get to know the team, maybe you like a player or maybe the player was from your favorite college team, and you root for the team. But the difference is the opportunity to witness great personal battles. Yes, there are some decent college matchups. But I want to see Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett prove who the best man is on the court. I want to see Chris Paul and Baron Davis glaring at one another. I want to see Amare Stoudamare and Dirk Nowitzki try to stop each other. I want to see someone in Kobe's jersey making him and Phil Jackson cry to the refs. I want to see Iverson hot and mad taking the ball at Jason Kidd and Vince Carter. I want to see Shaq get mad, again, at someone on the opposing team, maybe Rasheed "my ankle hurts" Wallace, and scare the bejeebers out of him. I want to see 21st century gladiators without helmets and pads battle, survive and move on to glory and legend not only with great coaching, teamwork, smart play and talent, but with guts and acceptance of great personal challenge and adversity.
I expect Noah has lived a little more than most guys his age and finds a whole lot of things less than interesting. But you wouldn't guess basketball and competition bores him the way he's accepted the challenge and improved this year. Money? The kid's Dad is an institution in the tennis world and a legend in the social stratosphere of New York, London and Paris and apparently is so loaded he doesn't have to run camps or shill for a network sports production. Instead he records and produces reggae in France. His mom sculpts in NYC.

The NBA is my favorite league in the world, but no atmosphere in the pros will ever compare to an arena full of college kids screaming their heads off, bouncing up and down for 40 minutes straight.
I enjoy both equally. I just love BBALL period. My old high school just won their 3rd title in 5 years here on Guam.. You should have seen me go crazy the entire game. I lost my voice. As long as the events are organized, I love watching bball games. College, NBA, high school.. Whatevers... I LOVE BASKETBALL. That should be a true basketball fans mentality.
