<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The nation's top two scorers are also its top players. Adam Morrison and J.J. Redick were selected co-players of the year Thursday, the first time in the 50-year history of the United States Basketball Writers Association that two players have received the honor. "About once in a generation, we see a situation where there are two extraordinary players who separate themselves from the rest of college basketball and clearly stand together as the best in the game," USBWA president Tony Barnhart said in a statement Thursday. "It happened in 1979 with Larry Bird and Magic Johnson and the USBWA feels it has happened again with Adam Morrison and J.J. Redick. Our organization has never voted for co-players of the year but on this, the 50th anniversary of the USBWA, it seems entirely appropriate to break with precedent in order to honor two equally deserving young men," he said. Redick and Morrison will be presented with the Oscar Robertson Trophy during an awards ceremony at Conseco Fieldhouse on Friday.</div> Source
I'm glad they split it up. They are both friends, so they don't mind being tied, since they both had remarkable years. The real question is if Morrison stays or not.
No surprise here. But, like Gators said, it would be interesting if he comes back because he wants a championship.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I think it's a cop out. Adam Morrison should have one the award outright.</div> I disagree. Reddick played just as well in a top-flight confrence. Imagine what Reddick could do against teams like pepperdine and St. Mary's
I also think Morrison should have won it. Redick plays in a tougher conference but hes also playing with great players on his team. Morrison proved that he can score against top competition in the Maui invitational and in the NCAA tournament. Redick is pretty one dimensional and I think Duke would be alot better off without him than Gonzaga would be without Morrison.
It definitely should have gone straight up to Morrison. You can't really use the strength of schedule argument as a determining factor, because Morrison put up huge numbers against quality opponents this year. The biggest reason though, is that I think Redick benefits alot more from Coach K's system. I doubt he would be anywhere near as productive in a similar situation to Morrison.
