<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. ? Shaquille O'Neal returned from his two-game absence because of a swollen left knee, and he's mad at Stu Jackson, the NBA's vice president.

O'Neal, who picked up five fouls to go along with 18 points, nine rebounds and six turnovers in a 90-78 Sunday loss at New Jersey, thinks the league has a bias against him.

"That's the first time in history somebody has four offensive fouls before he has a defensive foul," said O'Neal, clearly exaggerating. "They just need to be consistent in how they call the game. And it all starts at the top, when you got a guy like Stu Jackson running stuff, it's obvious why the referees are the way they are."

Three times this season Jackson, who doles out penalties for the league, has upgraded regular fouls on O'Neal to flagrant fouls. The next flagrant foul O'Neal earns during the regular season will come with a one-game suspension, and apparently O'Neal is holding a grudge.

Asked if the referees have an agenda, O'Neal replied, "It looks like it to me."

O'Neal said his left knee felt pretty good.

"I was just trying to get loose and trying to play strong," he said. "It was like all they did was flop over there and the referees fell for it. We still had some chances to win the game. We've just got to go back home and regroup."

O'Neal said New Jersey, which has won 12 consecutive games, could be a playoff threat to the Heat "if they keep getting help like that, then yeah. Ridiculous game. That was the most ridiculous game I've ever been a part of. When you've got a guy like Stu Jackson at the top, it shows why those referees are the way they are. It starts at the top."

And just for good measure, O'Neal, who often doesn't speak with reporters when he's upset with referees, finished with this gem about opponents flopping: "They just fell for it. Now they make these rules up and they do not follow them because I'm bigger and stronger. We all know it's a double standard."

For the record, coach Pat Riley supported O'Neal, even though he said he's tired of discussing the issue.

"It's an absolute contradiction," Riley said. "We're caught between a rock and a hard place with it, because if you (complain) too much about it, they lay a big 'ol fine on your (butt). So we're trying to have a little class with it."</div>

haha. He thinks he's the only one with problems with officiating. I've seen a ton of NO CALLS, when Kobe should have been on the charity stripe.

Hang tight big guy, your not the only one feelin it.

doesnt kobe blow the rest of the league away in free throws attempted per game? I know he drives alot but i definately do not think its unfair to say that Kobe gets far far FAR more questonable calls in his favour than to is detriment.

Bottom line is they've put rules in place to stop Shaq since he came into the league. Their IS a double standard when it comes to him. Guys hack down on him with all their strength, as flagarant as you can get, and just becuase he's massive and can take his lumps its allowed.
If guys were flopping like that while defending James or Kobe or Duncan on the block you can be damn sure the refs wouldnt let the flopping continue...but becuase its Shaq.....

I dunno...they need to it fly in my opinion....lower the whistle....there's far to many free throw attempts per game now and days.

If Kobe got the same calls Wade and LeBron get, he'd be averaging 45 a game. You can't even breathe on those two without getting a foul.

As for Shaq's comments, I agree, Stu Jackson is a joke and the officiating has been god awful all season long.

The the flow of the games this season have been ruined because the officials are making calls all the damn time.

Fouls drawn are definitely down, but Kobe settles for a ton more jumpers than LeBron and Wade, also.

Kobe takes more shots than Wade or LeBron. Those stats don't actually show when the foul is given. It's harder for him to get in the paint when he doesn't have a big man like Big Z or Shaq hence more jumpshots. He's probably aware of the fact that it's harder for him to get the call so instead of taking a foul and not being awarded one, he takes a jumpshot.

A main reason is because Kobe gets hammered and doesn't get the foul call. So he has to adjust his game and attack from the perimeter more than he would like.

Earlier in the season Kobe was getting his normal calls, but as you can clearly see, his foul drawn % took a nose dive in the 2nd half of the season.

That game officiating was horrible. Shaq was getting abused and I'm not sure he'll last as long as he can the way the refs are being.

I think it's about time somebody said something about these damn refs.

I agree completely. The officials are trying to upstage the players instead of being the neutral party on the court. If they are going to let teams play Shaq physical on one end, then they have to allow Shaq to be physical on offense.

The way it's setup now, you can't even complain about the officials without receiving a fine or possible suspension. There's no accountability for the zebras anymore, if player's have to face criticism, so should the refs.

    i agree with Shape

coming from vancouver i know how disastrous stu jackson is
this guy doesn't even deserve to be at NBA at all in any level
he was awful GM, awful interim coach, and somehow got promoted to the NBA headoffice after vancouver franchise collapsed under his hand (and stupid ownership problem...but it's true stu is an awful GM)

    anyways, other than jackson
there is also the inconsistent officiating this year

it might be because stu was so awful the referees just follow his roots

Kobe gets calls, but most of the time he doesn't. A month back the Cavs, Lakers game they called practically nothin for Kobe resulting in the win. Shaq should ease up and realize that the refs suck and don't call as much as they should BECAUSE they suck

If Shaq would stop throwing elbows everytime he touches the ball in the post maybe he wouldn't get so many flagrants [IMG]
