Get Ike to work out all summer, teach Beans free throws, Montay gains some muscle and Taft gets his back healthy

If we can trade up I'd love to get Rudy Gay. If we're stuck with somebody who doesn't fit come draft time, trade the pick to finally be RID OF FOYLE. OH MY GOD HE SUCKED SO MUCH THIS YEAR!!!!!

Trade Murph & Pietrus for a center.

Fire Monty and promote from within or get a winning coach from outside who'll play Ike more.

Get a stud big man inside who can score.

    Balance the roster.
A few years ago the complaint was there was no room inside with Damp, Foyle and Jamison. Damp and Jamison are gone, now we have no inside game. There needs to be an inside and outside game, putting players in position to play to their capabilities.

Murphy is playing PF but plays outside like a SF. When he was first in the league I remember him playing inside a lot more but his seems to have fallen in love with the outside game. I don't know how clear it has been made to him to play inside but unless he does he should be traded or made a back up (very expensive). Murphy would be valuable off the bench to stretch the defense if he played with Shaq and a SF with a game like Battier.

Dunn is probably staying due to his contract and we would not get much value for him. It need to be made clear to him that if his outside shot isn't going, to drive inside, dish, rebound and play defense. If not bench him until he gets the message. He cannot vanish like he does, he needs to be more consistant.

Watching JRich elevate his game due to his hard work is amazing. I've been disapointed that Murphy and Dunn have not been able to do something similar.

Beans, Ike and Taft are young and need a big man coach. Someone to work with them and then reward them with play time. If they play well send them back out there. If they make mistakes, and they will, correct them but send them out there. If they foul out, at least they are not on the bench.

Baron need to cut down on his threes and listen to the coach or send him to the bench until he gets the message. We also need a capable back up, like B. Knight.

Play Ellis as a back up to JRich and Baron as he could be a star in the making.

If you can trade Fish and Foyle for value or an expiring contract please do so. If they need to add Pietrus and Murphy to receive value at a position of need do so.

Monty has be given a flawed roster and I think he could use a Del Harris type assitant to teach him the NBA. If he is given a balanced roster with less warts on it and still does not make the playoffs, then maybe a change is warranted.

I hope that the Warriors can pick up some good SF prospect that can defend and also rebound some and produce. Out of the draft, I suppose there is Rudy Gay, who is likely not to fall. But Rudy, or a Danny Granger, is a player that the Warriors need. After that, this roster is set to win(though it is ready to win this season now, though it didn't).

    Baron/Fisher/Bynum(?)
    Jason/Pietrus/Ellis
    Rudy/Dunleavy/Zarko
    Murphy/Ike
    Biedrins/Foyle/Taft

Add a good head coach, get some new ownership, and this would be a team ready to get things done. [IMG]

LEt me tell you of two guys i hope the warriors take a serious look at with our second round pick :

    Justin Williams, wyoming, 6' 10" F
the guy had a triple double in the mwc tourney. That was points, rebounds and BLOCKS!!. He is a defense stopper, a game changer defensively, big length and hops, and non-stop hustle. Great help defender. His offense skills are in the paint and he sacrifices some size to athleticsm. I can see this guy shutting down small forwards and the quicker 4's.... something we need as Rahim sure eats us up. He could shut him down.

Another guy to keep an eye on is Marcus Slaughter SDSU 6 8" SF 235 lbs. He is sort of the anti dunleavy. His game is rebounding and attacking the basket with decent college range. But he hits the boards ferociously He averaged 16 pts 16 rbs in the mwc tourney. and 20 and 12 in conference. Was conference player of the year last year. I may be a little biased with this guy as i am an aztec alumn. But on the other hand i saw all his games.

I think either player would be a great addition at the 3 for us.

As for our 1st round pick i say package it with Fisher to gain cap space or if possible a big.... or perhaps space to sign PRyzbilla. Also, i think we should package Pietrus and Foyle together and see what we can land.

As For head coaching i think if we dont make a change or even if we do that change should be bringing in Terry Porter. I think the guy would be an excellent addition at head coach, however, i would love to see him be the guy that acts as mentor to Ellis. Ellis can be a special player, a Tony PArker type of point guard with the right mentoring and seasoning. We certainly dont need Ellis learning all of Fisher's pathetic ways of running the point. Fisher's bad habits better not rub off on Ellis.

I can't believe what has happen to the Warriors again. Another year another lottery trip.
I'm starting to feel like the way red sox fans used to feel. The only player that I would not trade is J-Rich him and him alone has shown not only progress from the start of his NBA career, but has shown heart and desire to win and get better. I'm convinced that the answer for next year is to get immediate help for the front court in the form of a young veteran player that the Warriors can realisticaly get. Somebody has to go because obviously this group is not getting it done. We need a drastic change in the team makeup and only Richardson deserves the Untuchable label in my opinion everybody else is fair game in order to get a bonafide front court help that will have an impact as soon as possible.

I agree with bayarea85, we need more balance of inside and outside presence (hopefully that will lead to better chemistry and ball movement since no defenses can stay with or react to everybody at once).

Also, Jason, how many here can say we've honestly coached and developed players under our lead? Do we know what it's like for us/for them, or is it us having a moment where we think we could do the coaches' jobs better because of how we feel?

What happens if throwing Ike out there isn't the right answer for him or for the team? We can't assume playing a guy more means the guy will get better instantly. To me, that's like throwing a guy out there who is still learning math and then testing him by grading him, rather than studying/reviewing the material first, doing homework and then taking the test. That's setting up a guy to fail when he ain't ready. If the goal is to teach the player based on correcting what he is doing wrong, I'm not sure that's the right way to teach. Mentally, that could jack a player up when everyone on the outside is impatiently counting on that player. Unless the guy is Lebron or an instant 20/10 guy like Elton Brand, I trust what the coaches probably know that we don't. I say take it slow, unless it's become very obvious to the staff the guy needs to start. Also, weigh in the fact Murphy/Dunleavy will take playing time away from the guy. Why does Dunleavy play power forward? Because our guards can't run plays or dribble penetrate and Dunleavy can't do what he does at small forward because he's too slow.

Man I love Jrich, but I cringe when he loses the ball of his foot or misses the things that guards should do well (hit free throws). But hey, he's our best all-around player and his attitude in the wake of all these years of losing is something to be commended. I'm convinced he's a scoring small forward in a guard's body and that will never change because, even though he's a fast player, he's not very quick for a guard. I can see why Dunleavy was coveted by some because he could be a tall shooting guard. But damn the guy is too slow and inconsistent to take away the disappointing tag that Murphy has as 2nd or 3rd option scorer. I think Fisher has become 2nd option now, but you don't want that either from a guy who can't shoot off the dribble and is supposed to distribute the ball and call plays (which is why we need better options than Baron as well). I think we needed a low post guy like Ike Diogu/Chris Taft more, but I would have loved a player like Danny Granger or Franciso Garcia. Somebody that is decently quick, skilled with the ball in passing/dribbling, can shoot and knows the game like a guard should. Did I mention being quick and can shoot?

P.S. Continue finding some more size until Biedrins is ready to play center. Biedrins... my gawd he is so bad at the foul line it's not even funny and he's too weak. Anybody like Patrick O'Bryant? A 20/10 prospect with bulk and some decent free throw %'s would be nice.

Bear in mind folks...everyone has bad plays and bad days. I see Fish-Done-left-it combine for 6 makes on 20 shots and the genius sends them out to kiss off a slim 4th qtr edge.
Pietrus gets screwed by a ref on a vendetta, and he's getting Calbert minutes for a week. Ike goes 4-5 in 8 mins then travels and sits while Adonal ponders the mysteries of the 4 ft jump shot and Fish heaves bricks from somewhere in Contra Costa county. Monty has a fatal case of tunnel vision. What is right there...he doesn't see.

The W's have decent odds to pingpong to top 3. Aldridge,Noah,Morrison,Thomas, show enough upside to offset the doubts...assuming we are not doing a costly trade up. Gay? OVERRATED. He never really seems to step up,to assert, plays like a cautios sub who defers to a Denham Brown. Wide open, fine,he takes the shot and looks good. For the next 10 mins some scrub is covering him and he won't even challenge. Morrison is the opposite, with a Fish-like confidence. Morrison does however tend to make some of those crazy falling sideways shots.
Noah is hard to figure, but there's a mix of quicks and energy in a 6-11 frame and what a nice learning curve. Noah improved moe in the last 2 months than Gay did in 2 years, which is why we'd take Noah at #2 if we had the shot...and pass on Gay at #6 trade back, losing Fish and getting smart, solid,if less "athletic" guys as late #1's or early #2's.

It's obvious that Fish-Foyle-Dun are not really keepers, but the $ make them negative trade value. Best hope is we move 2 of them without having to pay a huge disposal fee.

It would be a very good year to get a few picks in late rd 1,or in rd 2. Meanwhile, what seems to be at #6 or 7 is pretty much a cross your fingers thing.

Nick Fazekas,Mike Gansey,Craig Smith,Jose Barea,Eric Hicks,Justin Williams...each has some nice qualities and can be an asset available after pick 25,or even well into rd 2. While there's some wish-on-a-star idea Bargnani will be more than another perimeter euro tweener,Fazekis actually IS a 20-10 guy who can pass, can hit a 3,knows some inside moves, and is the same size as Bargnani/Splitter. Gansey has the smart all round game of Brandon Roy,maybe less hops, but more accuracy midrange to deep. Craig Smith dominated in a game vs U Conn...a thought to have 4 round 1 guys. Well,if he was the stud and Gay was a non-factor...how is Gay the Guy when Smith comes cheap? Well Smith is 6-7 255. In scouts eyes,2"short of legit for PF,15lb bulky for SF. Smith ,however handles, passes very well for a power player. I'd rather see if we can trim him to Artest's size that have to see if we can implant Basketball IQ into Carney. Eric Hicks at 6-6 had a 10 block triple double this year and games with 10 OFFENSIVE boards. At 6-6 245 he is not quick enough to stay with ALL SF's or tall enough to battle the biggest PF's,but half the time there's a matchup he can do well in and for a mid round 2...that is a lot. Think a scaled down Ben Wallace. Is that useless to have?
Justin Williams is Theo Ratliff DejaVu. Both are slim and 6-10 and noteable as shotblockers, both are U Wyoming. Niether has a shooters tough but both get boards, are big effort types. Theo is $13 mill worth of cap hurt...Justin is a Mid round 2 low $ guy.

If the warriors can flush fish at low cost and replace Monty with at least someone average....and don't do anything dumb..it will be progress. Anything more is gravy.

Has anyone ever played NBA live? Y'know that video game? It's not really real basketball or anything close a basketball simulation (hell the computer doesn't even follow its own rules regarding when the shotclock starts or double dribble or foul calls). But it's definitely a %'s game still.

When you have players out there that don't do what you want them to do, it makes you look like a bad video game player, even though you are not. Just a thought.

If the Warriors get a new coach, I don't think it would be as big of a necesity to deal Derek Fisher. His contract really isn't as bad as what Foyle's contract or Dunleavy's contract will be and are. Derek Fisher at least puts up stats and can create stuff on the court. His defense is not very good, I'd agree with that, but as a reserve, especially with defensive studs like Monta Ellis and Mickael Pietrus around, I could see Fisher being a strong player for the Warriors. I mean another coach can come in here and give Derek Fisher about 15-20 minutes per night and get him in there when needed, especially during clutch moments or when there needs to be some shooting, and I could see Derek Fisher's value rising for this team. This is the role, I believe Mullin wanted Derek Fisher to play, along with being able to step up and start a few games when there are injuries, which he has been able to do pretty well this year. The other part of the discussion would be if Derek is willing to take that role. I remember going into this season he wanted a big role on the team, and he got it. But maybe he could lighten up on his desires for a role on this team and still be happy and beneficial to the team.

The team needs a coach, period. The team needs a coach that will be the team's leader. This team lacks identity, leadership, and organization, and I cannot tell you in any way, shape, or form what Mike Montgomery has done to improve those three things for the Warriors. Bringing in a new coach is a huge thing for the Warriors, and if they are willing to go one more year or one more offseason with Mike Montgomery then I will put absolutely zero faith in this team's management and ownership. It would be the final straw in terms of how dumb and blind a team's franchise can go.

Next year if the Warriors go with better rotations and better lineups on the court and find answers to problems then they should do better. What does this roster need? I'd like to see a good SF come in, which I already alluded to in a previous post in this thread. I am really not familiar with this draft so I can't really say what would be the best thing for the Warriors then. I still say like at the beginning of the season, this team has the talent, the only way they will trip up is because of the coaching and free throws.

Bottom line is really about Mullin. Is he going to do anything to improve the team besides re-signing Dunleavy? I mean after acquiring Baron Davis, you figure the VP of operations would do more than just say, "Yup, I'm sold. I don't need to do anything. Especially after the 2004 suckfest without Baron (Pietrus/Dunleavy weren't doing much of anything and all the other players couldn't score or were unreliable options)."

Justin Williams also had a triple double with blocks in the MWC tourney. He is a game changer with his athleticsm and shot blocking. I think comparing him to Theo Ratliff is pretty much right on though i think he may have a little more offensive game.

I think the guy we should be setting our sights on in the second round is Marcus Slaughter. He averaged 16 and 16 in the MWC tourney and is a force. He runs the floor great and though he played the 4 in college, he would be a 3. Sort of a Danny Granger with less outside game and more inside game.

He was the one that was truly fooled by their late run last year. Even us fans that were optimistic wanted offseason changes. Instead of that, he gave a dud a 44 mil contract. Nice goin Mull!

I agree that the Dunleavy extention was in no way good. But maybe Mullin thought that the reasons why Pietrus and Dunleavy didn't shine at the beginning of the 2004-2005 season was because they were adjusting to a new coach and the new coach was adjusting to the players. But then again Dunleavy was getting less PT from Montgomery during that period of time than he had from Eric Musselman. But anyway, I really don't know what Chris Mullin sees. But just trying to make a conversation, maybe Mullin just saw it as a slump through a transition of coaches. But I mean at the end of the season there, the team was really rocking. I believe a lot of people would have been upset if there were a lot of moves in last year's offseason. Even the sceptics were cautious of making too many changes, just to see how things would transpire. This trading deadline on the other hand, was a period that deals could have been made as well. I remember there being a lot of talk going around and rumors particularly for the Warriors if I am not mistaken. But I also recall the whole deadline was pretty quiet in general across the NBA. I am not sure what kind of deals you are actually looking for Mullin to make. This team has talented players. Did you want him to trade the talented players for experienced solid players, or high potential players for other vets, or talented players and contracts for expiring players? I am sure that Mullin looked strongly into getting some superstars like Pierce and Bosh. It's also difficult to make moves when really this team has not developed a successful identity since Mike Montgomery besides two stretches of free basketball with no system just go out and win by talent type of basketball(I guess Mike Dunleavy calls it "Street ball"). But during these styles of basketball other teams have made and did make the adjustments against this team, and the Warriors are still looking for answers, several months later.

For the Warriors it just seems the little holes have become big holes and good things have become bad things. It's just the way some seasons go, it's just hard to excuse it with the type of talent that is on this team though and how poorly it was used. The team needed leadership badly, and the coach didn't step up to provide any. It really seemed like Mike Montgomery just let it go and probably added to the negatives that faced the players by not doing anything and just demanding the same unsuccessful plans game in and game out. If I am a player and things are confusing to the team and causing them to struggle, then I look toward the coach to give some answers and solutions. If nothing else there should at least be some type of a system the players could turn to that helps players succeed on the court rather than just playing by feel.

The sad thing about being a Warriors fan is how much the fans are always willing to rebuild. How much Warrior fans are into saying lets trade talent and contracts for cap relief for the future. I am not calling you CR2 this type of fan, but I know there are some out there, especially on other boards. But to me, it's quite a shame. This team has one of the top back courts in the NBA, especially when you add up the reserves as well such as Ellis, Bynum, Pietrus, and Fisher. The team also has a promising front line with Andris, Taft, Diogu, Murphy, Zarko, and Foyle can get something sometimes. Thus I would say, besides the Foyle and Dunleavy extentions, that I am with and for the way the roster is set up now, and have no current problems with how the roster is set up now. If I try to think chroniclogically how this roster has been formed, I may think different. But in my eyes this is not a bad roster.

Dunno how much meaning this has, but heres an interesting factoid:

During last seasons winning streak the Warriors were 4th in the league in fastbreak points. I assume this is because they played a fast paced running game. However this year...
