Colangelo seems resigned to the fact that James isn't coming back to Toronto. I've said all along, I'm not against trading the pick if the talent isn't there. Right now, our primary concerns are finding a legitimate distributor at the 1 and a solid center. And it looks like neither of those needs can be addressed through the draft, unless we really reach.

I don't know, is their really a veteran that could help us reach the playoffs next season? If we can't trade it, draft Brandon Roy.

Like Scott Carefoot said on his blog. When GM's of other teams see this, they will wonder what they would give up for a top 5 lottery pick. Brian Colangelo is simply using the media at his advantage, surely some teams would give up some valuable pieces for a top 5 pick. If the right deal comes, Brian will make the move. If the right deal doesnt come along we draft the best player on the board.

I agree with Bobcats, too much of a risk.

we DO NOT need anymore young guys. The pick should be traded in my opinion. We need to address the holes at the 1 and 5 spots before we think about pickup up another swingman. Sure it would be nice to have a Gay or Morrison, but its not a top priority. A top 5 pick can get a good deal for a team like Toronto with many hole's to fill...their will 30 teams lobbying for that pick..we can milk it for all its worth.

Last thing i want is to become a team loaded with young talent that just keeps leaving town like we're a revolving door or something. They wont stay if we cant win, we cant win if we dont have any experienced veterans, or a center, or a point gaurd.

Trading the pick is the only sensible thing to do.

yeah mike james is probably a goner from our team.
I would like to keep him but, he is a chucker at time..is not a true PG..we cannot put him at SG because mo is there and mo>james
but overall i have no idea who we can trade this pick for.
    I'm hoping Ridnour though.

I like this idea for the Raps. I think that Ridnour would fill the need for a good pass first pg to get the ball to Bosh when he needs it. James has been a good pg, but does tend to forget that this is Bosh's team and he should be the one with the ball at crunch time.

I don't know that there is going to be anything in the draft that will impact the team right away, so trading the pick for a pg or a 5 would be the best, if it's possible that is.

I think James is a great player, but I think the Raps are better without him. Morris Peterson and Villanueva will fill in the scoresheet in his absence and Bosh will get more touches. I think Brian Colangelo can pull something off with James and thank you for mentioning Luke Ridnour! I've always been a fan of his since his days in Oregon and I'd be happy to see him in Raps uniform, and maybe if he could bring back the locks, lol. I think he would make a terrific fit for this team.

    PlaT for GM!

Easy. Luke + Robert Swift. We get a PG and a decent center.

Then even better. Maybe we can get Seattle's pick as well, or a guy like Damien Wilkins. Best thing about it is Ridnour is on a rookie contract, essentially giving us every dime of our cap space this offseason to spend without worrying about any of our important players (James maybe, but he's a goner either ways) leaving for more money elsewhere in the immediate future.

i would try to sign with chris wilcox as i have said in my previous posts
he play same position as bosh technically speaking
but bosh or wilcox can play some C and rotate up (use wilcox+bosh like kurt thomas and amare/marion's role on phoenix)
    charlie at SF
that will be a very quick and atheletic frontcourt

i think it's too late for toronto to build up a defensive team
might as well go for tough guys like reggie evans and wilcox to strengthen the depth and toughness on court..especially inside

but the price has to be right
i am hoping sign and trade mike james+lottery pick for ridnour+wilcox

if no deals can work out well
then just draft a potent guard, as bobcats suggested, roy

I'm not too high on Wilcox. He needs to be a lot more consistent. I agree with the fact that the Raps are in big need of some defensive players and I'm sure that's the first priority of Colangelo. As long as we can get Ridnour, I'm happy...but what do you guys think the possibilities of this deal happening?

i think yall should trade yalls pick. nene i think would fit but im a bulls fan and we also dont have a center so i want him in chicago but there are other centers out there. bosh wants aldridge on the team so if yall are stuck with the pick i would get aldridge or glen davis(to me davis is better but he is short tho) because other big guys in the draft seem more like power forwards so thats what im thinking. what about jackie butler i havent seem him play but he might be good since people on some other message boards on the bulls board are saying someone on the knicks team is good. yall need to get some vets too.

I highly doubt it will happen. Just curious to ask why you think that BC will focus on defense? Didn't he just come from a run and gun team that tried to outscore you and not out defend you? Aren't the Raps poised to be a team like that as well? They can score with the best of the NBA so why not play to your strength? I see BC going more along those lines.

don't yall? i mean yall know that like da big baby can't jump or play an uptempo game, yall know nene is like da bomb that neva playas cuz he's always hurt, yall even ever heard of jackie butler?i tink yall would ratha have hoffa cuz like yall got screwed when babcock picked that dude but seein as yall need some vets lets get MJ outta retirement i saw some otha msg boards and theyall sayin that he da bomb........[IMG]

During his first interview with Swirsk in one of the games in Toronto and I think it was his first day on the job- he was asked what sort of players the Raps would be needing and he acknowledged the fact that the club needs good veteran players and some good defensive players. Also, if you think about it, the Raps are already a decent fast break team and the gung ho offence can be made by strategy, rather than acquiring players for the type of offence. But you are right and I think Barrett is a prime example of the type of player Colangelo wants on this team, in someone who is fast paced.
