<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">CHICAGO - On the one hand, Doc Rivers said there won?t be many changes despite the Celtics? slim playoff chances. On the other, the C?s coach plans to start Kendrick Perkins in place of Raef LaFrentz tonight in Toronto. ?I?ll probably do that (tonight),? said Rivers, who?s seeking a better defensive presence to start a game and would get that in Perkins. ?I?m not positive, but most likely I?ll do that. I?m probably going to do that, but I?m not married to that yet.? Rivers restated his goal to find more playing time for rookie Gerald Green. He also wants Tony Allen to see more action at point guard. ?I think he?s playing so well, you?ve just got to think of more ways to get him on the floor,? Rivers said of Allen. Beyond that, Rivers bristled at talk of an increased workload for the younger Celts, who trail eighth-place Philadelphia by 4 ? games in the East. ?I?ve heard that all year: ?Play the young guys,? ? he said after practice yesterday. ?Well, the young guys aren?t ready all the time. They have to learn how to be ready. I think we send such a bad message in this league: Play the young guys. Let the young guys earn their spot. Let them earn their minutes. ?The thing with (playing for) next year where I think people get all screwed up and wrong in my opinion is you don?t know who?s going to be here next year. So coach the team this year and get them in good habits. I think it?s a bad message to send to a team when you start screwing around because, quote-unquote, you?re out of the playoffs. And with Philly, who knows?? As for resting LaFrentz and Wally Szczerbiak, both of whom have been playing through knee pain, Rivers said he?ll await word from trainer Ed Lacerte before cutting back their minutes. ?If it comes to a point where Wally and Raef feel they can get injured, then absolutely (we?ll rest them),? Rivers said. ?But if it?s just a pain, that?s going to come from Eddie. When Eddie comes to me and says, ?Hey, listen, we?ll be better served sitting them,? then I absolutely would. But until that comes, I?m not changing."</div> Source
Does this idiot seriously think that the young guys are going to stop working hard if he gives them garbage minutes at the end of a lottery season? Damn....just let them play. We don't want to win anymore, anyway.

I think its a good thing that he is showing these kids that talent alone wont get them there, that they actually have to work for it..it is good becuase it keeps them hungry, and craving more and more... having said that, the season is nearly finished, and they have had the whole season to feel like this, so, i think its time to put them on the floor for longer, they have been working hard all season, now, let them enjoy the fruits of their labour.....
They are playing. Gerald Green put up seventeen in short minutes last night. Doc has no choice but to play Perk. Tony Allen has been very good. Orien Greene hasn't looked as good lately, but he's got a lot on his mind. It's sad to see Al out, but I'd rather see him better than see him play hurt now. His injuries are turning into a real worry. In short, Doc didn't say anything when he made that statement. With Wally and Al down and out, the young guys have to play so the vets don't get hurt. Doc's just saying what coaches have to say in that situation.
you guys are lucky u have a coach with common sense... our coach (jvg) still playing regular minutes.... and our barely playing the players with potential like lampe and hayes...
the thing that makes gerald green so good is that he is just great to watch. His flyin up 4 dunks and making tuff jump shots. This is one of the players that brings in the crowd, like jordan or lebron, and you can build your franchise around him. His defenitly not as good as lebron of Jordan now, but i think in a couple of years, i think he could b as good as mcgrady or carter or some1 like that
i think gerald green is gonna be a very good player and very fun to watch also but no way would i build my franchise around him. I dont think be as good as Pierce. Maybe hell be as good as McGrady or Carter but even if hes as good or better than all three i still wouldnt build my franchise around him. As a rule in todays game you cannot build a championship team around a guard or small forward. Michael Jordan was the shining ecxeption but unless someone comes along whos better than him its not likely youll see it again. How many championships have Pierce, Carter, McGrady, Lebron and Kobe won as the number 1 guy on their respective teams? zero. You could say that they're franchise players because theyre perrenial superstars who always put up monster numbers but to build a championship team the center piece has to be a big man. Hakeem, Shaq, Duncan, Wallace. If I could pick any player to build a franchise around right now if I was starting from scratch I really don't know who I'd pick. Shaq only has a handful of years left. Duncan appears to finally be on his downside. Garnett hasnt been able to carry his teams deep into the playoffs. Im really ecxited to see how Dwight Howard developes. If he can do 15 and 12 in his 2nd year out of high school than I think he has a chance to be a very dominant player. Besides, Gerald Green still has yet to prove he can play defense
Gerald exploding last night for 22 on Danny Granger a very good defender. I think Doc should start Gomes and Green for the rest of the season so they get a feel for the NBA game, especially Gerald coming straight out of High School.
olskoolFunktitude, you forgot to name Stoudemire as a canadate to build a team around. That dude is sick.
