considering how byron scott has treated him and said of him, id be really surprised to see him in a hornets uniform next season. unless JR makes major improvement in his game and makes drastic changes in his "attitude", i see him as good as gone. its really sad actually, because i think a duo of chris paul and jr smith has a lot of potential in the future. not to mention the improvement of david west this season.
J.R Smith is gone after this season, Byron Scott is staying, the team is already talking to him about a contract extension. Unless Smith can some how bury the hatchet with Scott this off-season there is absolutely no way he will be back in New Orleans next season. I expect them to trade him then look to draft a good shooting guard in the draft they have back to back picks in the first round so they could fill there need for a big man as well as a new two guard.
I think he'll stay, i really do. Chris Paul wants to make it work, and for that reason alone i think they'll perservere. I also think Byron Scott has some little believe in Smith, otherwise he wouldn't be at the club or playing at all.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Jerry West:</div><div class="quote_post"> Chris Paul wants to make it work, and for that reason alone i think they'll </div> Last year when JR was the clubs apprent future, and Scott had trouble with Baron Davis. Despite Smith and Davis being like brothers Davis was still traded due to his inability to play for Scott. I think the same thing will happen to Smith.
I have a good feeling that he is going to be gone next year. The Hornets tried pretty hard to move him at the trade deadline. I know that they were speaking with the Spurs about it, though I don't know how he would do with Pop's way of doing things. I think just that they were trying to deal him may give him reasons to ask for a trade during the summer. I'm sure that he doesn't feel welcome by the coach.
Right now I think it's 60/40 JR Smith will be traded. The ownership might want to wait for the opportunity to pull off a sign & trade instead of dealing him on his rookie contract. This gives JR Smith and Byron Scott a summer to work out their differences and help one another's careers. I think Chris Paul and PJ Brown will play a big role in mediating between the two sides. Last year the Hornets weren't in a position to make the post season and have a winning year, so I think JR Smith had more freedom to make mistakes. This year, with Paul, the Hornets had a great chance at making it to the playoffs and Byron Scott wasn't as leniant with JR Smith. If this experience has humbled JR Smith then I see hope for him returning. If he takes it as something personal and feels disrespected, he's gone.
I alluded to this in another thread, but i imagine if Smith is traded it'll be in a package deal to move up the draft in the hope of getting an Aldridge or Noah. Smith, and picks 16 and 17 (roughly), to move up into the lottery in a weak draft. I reckon they'll have takers for an offer like that.
All I can say is what a loss for the Hornets.....J.R. has true potential and both Paul and Smith could form a solid combo if they were to click, and he was to stay....He's also young and I can see him being a solid player in the future.... What a waste.....

Baron had also wanted to be traded and had fallen out of favor with more people than just scott.
Byron Scott is a great coach, I would listen to everything he says not ignore it like JR has. JR was the next big thing, but apparently his work ethic has gotten him no where. I think he'll be a could've, would've but didnt kind of guy if he stays in NO, if he's shipped he will improve consistently but probably not as much we used to think he would. All in all, I cant say. I hope he's shipped though.
I heard on the radio in the last game of the season, Byron Scott asked Kareem Abdul Jabbar to have talk with JR Smith. Apparently KAJ ripped JR Smith a new one, but explained to him what a means to be a professional and how special the opportunity it is to be in the NBA.

I don't think they'll give him away or show him the door. If he's gone, then expect to hear NO talking about his potential and the fact he was a first rounder. After building him up, they may try to deal him for a future pick.

Trading a big for a small is a cardinal sin in the NBA, and with 2 seasons of Triangle experience Mihm has a lot value for the Lakers. Mihm also has a very cheap contract considering the numbers he produces at Center. I don't think the Lakers want anything to do with JR Smith. KAJ was just doing his former teammate, Byron Scott a favor, by schooling JR Smith about what it means to be the NBA and the proper way to approach his opportunity.
