I found this on another Forum. I thought it was pretty interesting:
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">* Between us and Philly, there are 22 games remaining
    * Between us and Chicago there are 21.

To get ahead of Philly we can only withstand 7 'bad results' (a loss by us, or a win by Philly = a bad result). To get ahead of Chicago the 'bad result' number is also 7.

For example, if we lose 4 games, and Philly win 3, we'd have 48 losses, they'd have 38 losses, with 9 games left, the most losses they could finish with is 47, so itd be impossible for them to lose enough games to fall behind us. (we currently own the Philly tiebreaker, but not the Chicago tiebreaker).

So, right now we have 7 'bad results' up out sleeve before we are mathematically eliminated, with every 'bad result' we get closer to needing to win every game and have Philly and Chicago lose every game.

Now. In addition, Philly and Chicago play each other twice. Someone has to win, so that will be two 'bad results' by default, either two to Philly, two to Chicago or one to each. Since there is only the 8th seed 'up for grabs', The best case scenario is they split the two games... which means our 7 'bad results' for each, is really down to 6.

We also play both Philly and Chicago once each, losing to either would translate to two 'bad results'.

So, 6 'bad results' available with 22 and 21 games to go...

    </div>

So, what do you guys think? Play-offs? Or no Play-offs?

Nope, no chance, but as long as we continue to play good then it will get our confidence up for next year. (similar to the Dolphins in football, great late run and they are hyped and supposed to make a good run this year)

Say we won every single game except 1. There's still a good chance that the Sixers/Bulls make the playoffs, with your "bad result" theory. They could get 6 wins... especially in a playoff push.

    No chance.

Maybe if we won the damn game against Chicago that I saw earlier this year. Or some of the "gimme games" that we lost, Atlanta.. Charlotte... But not now

no chance. the other teams are bound to win a couple games. If we were 9th maybe, but we aint comin up from the 11th spot to take the last seed. Next year will be different.

Next year at this time, we will be talking about who we would rather play in the playoffs. [IMG]

actually if win the rest of are games... we can still make... slim chance to none though... i would rather wait till next year anyway...we are not ready to contend in the playoffs and i would rather see us play good and have the momentum going into next year and getting a good draft pick

Who cares if we would survive in the playoffs? We'd play Detroit and we'd probably get swept.

You know what? Playoff experience is worth it though, and it would be huge for our young guys to get some playing time. I want them to make the playoffs; I just don't think it will happen.

Good post, plus, the guys are fearless, they like challanges, Magic have competed well against Dallas, Phoneix and many other elite teams.

We need experience, but we have to do a whole lot of good and pray that 3-4 other teams do a whole lot of bad to have any chance into the playoffs. We need to win the rest of our games basically and we got Detroit and San Antonio left on our schedule, so playoffs are pretty much out of the question.

Like Chuck said, it's still possible but it's extremely unlikely. We would have to win almost all of our games for the rest of the season and the Bulls/Sixers would have to just flush their season down the toilet. I would love for it to happen because like everyone has been saying, we have a young core that needs playoff experience. Realistically though, we're probably lottery bound.
