<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">And in a perfect world, this is where Alvin Williams would retire, where the organization and its fans could thank him for years of professional service and an unselfish attitude that has made him stand out from so many of his peers. But the world is not perfect, decisions are made based on business rather than sentimentality and Williams is well aware that his wishes for the future may not come true. "The perfect situation? I would love to be here," Williams said yesterday. "I was here when we struggled, here when we were doing well, here when we're struggling now. But if they feel like I can't help them or whatever the case may be, then hopefully ? if my knees hold up and I think they will ? I could be on someone else's roster. "But my heart is always here."

Raptor president and general manager Bryan Colangelo said "there are some provisions in his contract" that might affect Toronto's salary obligations in the final year of Williams's deal. "I don't think it's appropriate to discuss them, though," Colangelo said. Williams has one year and $6.85 million (all figures U.S.) left on a contract he signed in 2001. He has an option to void the contract at the end of this season but won't. "I'm sure it's more on the business side of basketball that they're worried about," Williams said. "I'm not going to opt out. ... I guess they have their plans (for) what they plan on in the off-season and I'm going to hold it until then, just keep trying to get better."

Williams said he had one brief conversation with Colangelo right after the new general manager took over and hasn't had any serious discussions about his future since. "I'm sure he's sitting down talking and thinking about what he needs to do to make the team a better team," Williams said of the new general manager. "I'm just waiting. I'm sure there'll be some type of sit-down (after the season) on what they're going to do with me."

See, Alvin has been one of my favourite players for a long time now, I really really want him to come back succeed, it's just the 7 Million that's taking up our cap space eats me and makes me hope he hangs them up for good.

^ I agree, I love his heart and passion for the team and city, it's just that contract that Grunwald gave him.[IMG]

This is funny, i was talking about this a couple of months back. But everyone turned down on me and said that we need to get rid of him.

But i admit, it's true that he's taking up Cap Space, but when he's healthy again, i'm sure he can contribute to this team. Besides that, aren't we looking for a solid veteran PG? I'm pretty sure Alvin can suite that position.

How many point guards do we have already?

Out of the 15 roster spots, we have 5 point guards. That number'll need to be cut by October if we're to toughen up up front. A guy like Darrick Martin is the veteran point guard that is suitable. He's endeared himself to teammates and Sam Mitchell loves him. I can see him sticking around for another year. I think that'll mean that Alvin Williams will be cut before training camp.

I remember reading that the Raps were grooming Martin for an assistant coach job before. I kind of like Todd thought, he seems to always tell it like it is. He seems like a no BULLSH** coach. Thats the kind of coach you need sometimes.

I think Jim Todd is a good assistant coach. His bulging eyes just say he's a good assistant and always very enthusiastic during games.

I'd rather keep Alvin than lose him, if he can get healthy and do half of what he did when he was he'll be a solid backup PG or in this case maybe even third string PG and you guys are forgetting he can play SG too cause he's huge, he's a 6'5" PG. The three PG's I'd like on the raptors roster next year are Mike James/Andre Barrett/Alvin Williams.

alvin even if he come back he won't play that many games
even if he "recovered" he won't be 100%
he is not young...in fact...he is old

there are tons of younger PG free agents this year that are not superstars, but rather solid players...and price tag is low
why not get them and instead risk on alvin?

maybe you can use him as assistant coach
make you feel better, because in a way toronto still keep him[IMG]

Andre Barrett? Whats so special about him? I'd rather have Calderon who is a pass first PG instead of Barrett who looks to shoot first.. and when he shoots he misses so much baskets.

We have come along way this season with our PG situation, I'd like to see it like this, Mike James MUST be resigned, Jose should stick around, Martin has proven to be a valuable asset, even with just a 2 minute stint he can change the direction of a game when the O isn't clicking, Alvin I really hope can make another run at it, even tho it is improbable. Andre Barrett has come in and done really well with no expectations laid on him, I think that the 10 day contract he got really helped his chances of an NBA contract, but just not on the Raptors because of our newly found depth.

Anyone know wats goin on with Roko Ukic?
