One analysts view of the 6th man award: <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Sixth Man of the Year: Mike Miller, Grizzlies. At the outset of the season, it seemed as if the usual cast of diminutive hybrid guards would be fighting for this award. Mike Miller, who has the audacity to clock in at 6-8 and 218 pounds, was having none of it. Starting just eight games, he rounded into Memphis' most devastating all-around player. Averaging about 14 points, five boards and three assists in 31 minutes, Miller helped keep that team afloat even through a 7-8 February. The Grizzlies have the West's fourth-best record, and Miller (who just turned 26) is about to enter his prime.</div> It's interesting to compare stats between Miller and Stackhouse if you take out Stack's recent stretch of starting games. Miller has played 73 games (8 starts in that), and when in the 6th man role he has averaged 13.4ppg, 5.2rpg, 2.7apg, 47% shooting. Stackhouse has played 54 gamrs (11 starts in that), and when in the 6th man role he has averaged 12.5ppg, 2.8rpg, 2.7apg, 38.7% shooting Anyone who picks Stackhouse only does so out of ignorance to Mike Miller's year.

Who I predict, Who I prefer MVP:Steve Nash, Lebron James Rookie: Chris Paul Most Improved: Boris Diau Defensive Player: Ben Wallace, Marcus Camby 6th Man: Jerry Stackhouse, Alonzo Mourning Coach: Flip Saunders
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting NTC187:</div><div class="quote_post">Smush has 149 less points, 205 less assists and 288 less rebounds than Diaw, thats why. David West has a stronger case than Smush.</div> I love when people bring up stats. It definitely proves alot. How can you even compare Smush Parker to Boris Diaw. Look at these numbers. They are amazing compared to Smush. Diaw is the most improved player in the NBA. He went from playing Point Guard in Atlanta to playing Center for Phoenix. Major adjustment I would say. He deserves it and he will get that award. Enough said. Great point NTC187!!!
Plus, Smush hasn't improved his horrendous defense at all either. He has trouble defending almost every starting PG in the league. Diaw's improved on the offensive end, showing he can play all five positions, but what's really astounding is that he can also guard all five positions on the defensive end.
MVP - Dirk Nowitzki(The man should win it, he's a scorer, a leader, and his obviously stepped up his game.) MIP - Smush Parker (From D-League to starter for the Lakers? And to the guy who was talking about how he can't play defense...neither can Nash!) Rookie - CP3 (not even close.) Defensive Player - Ben Wallace (Camby was hurt too much.) 6th Man - Jerry Stackhouse (Who would you rather have on your team, Stack or Miller?) Coach of the Year - Avery Johnson (Flip was handed a gift in the Pistons. They're a machine. Plus, he's had to deal with absolutely no bad-luck, his starters were healthy all year. Avery turned waste-of-space-players in to...players (Diop), dealt with injuries (Howard, Stack, Van Horn, Harris, Griffin, etc.)
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Jerry West:</div><div class="quote_post">Whilst i agree that team success is a vital ingredient, if you used that logic to decide your MVP then it'd be a race between Detroit and San Antonio's best players, and guys like Bryant, Wade, LeBron wouldn't even get consideration. For me, if you get close to 50 wins you should have that 'team success' vote.</div> I wasn't saying Dirk should be MVP soley because of his team success but rather because of his combination of great statistics and team success. Both should be given equal or similar weighting in the voting process, and when you consider both at the same time, Dirk is the most complete candidate. His Mavericks are the third best team in the league, only three games behind San Antonio, and he's putting up 27 ppg, 9 rpg, and 3 apg with 41% 3pt FG. The only player whose resume I'd consider just as complete would be LeBron James, whose team is three spots behind Dallas in the standings but whose stats are better enough to the point where they compensate for the gap between the success of their teams. The Clippers' 47-win season would grab my attention if I were voting for the All-NBA teams, but if I were comparing him to Dirk for MVP, it's pretty insignificant when compared to the Maverick's 60-win season. 13 wins is a hell of a difference.

MVP - LeBron. Easiest decision on the list. MIP - Mike James. But maybe Boris Diaw. Rookie - Chris Paul. Defensive Player - Ben Wallace 6th Man - Mike Miller Coach of the Year- Avery J. And for the record, I thought he should win it before he was picked, too.
