We lost the coin toss according to RealGM:

    http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/401...rder_selection/

That means we get the ninth pick in the draft and we keep this year's second rounder but next year its an unconditional second rounder owed to Boston, but not to worry, we are owed 2 seconds next year from Minesota and New Jersey.

While this draft is relatively weak, it seems to have a pretty even talent level. The top 6 are all about equal, 7-15 are all about equal, and 20-mid second round seems to have an equal talent level. Theres a few guys in the second round that I like:

Bobby Jones, G/F from Washington is a defensive specialist. He can step right in and help out with his perimieter defense but may be a liability on offense. Hes got a streaky shot that needs alot of work but once he improves that he'll be much more complete, hes also a very good all around athlete and makes for a good slasher and finisher around the rim. Depending on how he develops his offensive game he could be a Bruce Bowen, George Lynch, or Shane Battier; however he imrpoves, he'd be a good 2nd round pick.

Eric Hicks, PF/C from Cincinnati is a drastically undersized big man with great athleticism. Hes listed at 6'6 in shoes and some say that is a generous measurement. This guy is an amazing rebounder, especially offensive rebounds, hes capable of getting 10 offensive rebounds or 20 rebounds on any given night. He was also a very good shot blocker at the NCAA level and he showed how effective he can be against NBA level competition in games vs. UConn, Memphis, LSU, Louisville, and Georgetown and he also played well at the Portsmouth Invitational. This guys worth a pick in the second round and we can stash him in the D-League to see how effective he is against better competition, if we get lucky he could turn out like a smaller Ben Wallace.

PJ Tucker, 6'5 SF/PF from Texas is another udersized forward but I think he can make the transition to the 3. At 6'5, very athletic, with long arms he was a PF in college and was a great rebounder and scored well inside. His jumpshot is rather poor at this point but once he improves there he can be a solid SF similar to Desmond Mason or Bonzi Wells. Once he develops his shot and handle some more he could be a very serviceable SF.

Also VERY high on Erick Hicks. As a rd 2 all we need is a part time guy who can do a few roles well. At 6-6 240-245,he's the same size as Artest and every bit as tough. He may have problem matchups at SF or PF but usually would be a BIG boost on D and the boards.

Nick Fazekas is a 6-11 guy,a 21 pt,10 rb,smart player, Decent D,good passer can shoot a 3. He's not a real physical type yet has the skills inside, and no real flaws to his game...a steal at the end of rd 1.

W Va G Mike Gansey is a real smart, all round player too, sneaky quick and he had a remarkable 55% from the feild, near 45% from 3. Good hustle.

Craig Smith of Boston College is 6-7 250-255,and if he was the same guy and 6-9 he's a lotto pick. Look up his stats for the ACC tournasment..3 games in 3 straight nights vs Maryland,N Carolina,Duke....and as I recall he averaged 21 pts,12 rbd,6 assists and a couple of steals.
Despite his build,he's a good ballhandler who helped their PG break the press,a real good passer, and a tough guy inside who has moves, uses the glass well. 250 is too bulky to play SF,but it may be easier to get him to 240 than to get R Carney to play smart or Gay to play aggressive...and Smith goes cheap

Daniel Horton,Michigan,is a good all around pg in rd 2. What jumps out...he was #1 in the NCAA in FT%...around 93%.

Saer Sene, the long young African playing in Belgium seems to have enough game to consider as a mid-late rd 1. He'd need a few years to learn skills but might be a plud on D a bit sooner. I have heard no talk of Roy Hibbert coming out,at 7-2 270 size is an obvious plus. He's shown some talent and has worked hard to improve.

Wow! Looks like Baron to Gay alleyoop potential all night long with that draft pick. He does look a lot like Pietrus just in those highlites besides being a little lengthier and better finishing around the hoop. If his defense is good, then I would like to draft Gay.

That Sene guy sounds awesome as well. 7 feet tall, 7-8 wing span I believe, with tremendous athleticism, blocked 9+ shots in like his last game according to draftexpress.com and just scarey like. The downside to him is that he has only played about two or three years of basketball in his life.

    He's 6-8 and 220 lbs.

He plays in the paint, as you all saw in the video and is a good passer (though not a good handler). Loves slashing to the hoop (which Warriors need) but I don't know about his defense. And of course a freak athlete, even more than Pietrus.

He'd make an ideal SF, has the height and athleticism to keep up with guys like TMac and Melo. All I know is he'd be a huge upgrade over Dunleavy and Pietrus. Imagine Baron playing with Richardson and Gay... it'd be raining alley-oops.

i dont know anything about college ball cuz i never watch it. But how tall is Rudy Gay?? In the video all you see are dunks, does he have a good stroke or anything? He has mad hops though, the warriors would be even more entertaining if we drafted him.

Rudy Gay will probably be gone by the time we're up. Dunks are nice, but can this guy handle the ball, pass and shoot? Can he play nba defense...? I'll be pissed if he we pick a guy that can't do three things as a perimeter guy (shoot, pass, handle) as well as play defense.

    How tall is Lian?

I don't mind Rudy Gay at all -- he seems a bit thick and well sized for the type of game he plays -- I think I remember him being kinda quiet in the tourney though -- am I mistaken?

I like Brandon Roy -- though we have no room for a 6'5 shooting guard -- he looks like he's gonna be a Michael Redd / Ray Allen type of player.

If this guy is somehow available at #9 (or if we slide up) we gotta nab him: Andrea Bargnani - 7'0"

or Tiago Splitter -- if his contract can be worked out

Or Patrick Obryant -- he looks big

Yi would be a project, not sure if we're looking for that since we got Biedrins.

But then again, Yi could be our version of Pau Gasol (minus the post game).

This past week Shawne Williams and Kyle Lowry have both declared to enter the draft, both are young players who I'm big fans of but I was fully expecting both to go back to school. They still potentially could go back to school but I tihnk they'll both be guaranteed 1st rounders and they'll stay in.

I really haven't seen many Memphis games this season but I love the potential of Shawne Williams. This is our shot at drafting a Josh Smith type player, hes 6'9, 225 extremely athletic and lanky and hes got decent strength. He started his freshman season with Memphis last year very well but cooled off over the course of the year. This guy can finish with the best of them, shoot the mid-range jumper well (but not great), and hes got a streaky long range shot the will need some work. He can also handle the ball well for a guy his size but hes not a great ballhandler like Dunleavy or Odom, he also gets alot of blocks, rebounds, and steals. Overall this is just an athletic freak who'll fill up the stat sheet, hes 20 right now and already pretty good with tons of potential.

Lowry I've seen a bit more of since my dad is a Nova alum, I watch Villanova whenever I can (unless Cal is playing [IMG]). Hes super quick but still got good strength for his size. Great penetrator and defender because of his athletic ability, gets alot of steals and can lock other PGs down. His jumpshot is very poor but he doesnt take many of them anyway since he can get to the rim at will. Hes a pure point guard IMO but I've heard people question his decision making and court vision, hes definitely a scoring PG but he distributes well too (just looks at Alan Ray and Rany Foye's ppg averages). I can't think of a good comparison but maybe like a slightly bigger and stronger Speedy Claxton, I don't think it does him justice though because I believe he'll be much better than Speedy but thats all I can think of. If/when he develops his jumpshot he could be a great point guard similar to Chris Paul but not as good of a playmaker.

Both of these guys right now are projected to go in the mid-late first round but Shawne Williams is a legit lotto prospect with his athleticism, versatality, and potential. His stock will rise and I don't think he'd be a stretch at all at #9. Lowry may not get his stock up enough to be taken by us, plus we may not have any room for him but hes a great prospect and he'd be an instant upgrade over Fisher or Bynum.

Before Shawne Williams and Lowry declared I was very high on Brewer but also liked O'Bryant, but O'Bryant has really grown on me. He's a 19 year old, athletic 7 footer, whats not to like? At first I was a little turned off by the level of competition that he was facing with Bradley but he put up numbers in the NCAA tourney as well and at 19 hes impressive. His offensive game is a big question mark, will his raw post moves be effective in the NBA? I can't predict that but hes got offensive potential and I think worst case scenario he'd just be a good shotblocker, rebounder, and space eater (Brendan Haywood?) but best case he can do all of that plus score a little like a Magloire type of center. It may seem a little much to have all of the young bigs but they really are invaluable assets, just imagine the future lineup of Ike with Taft backing him up and either O'Bryant or Biedrins starting with the other backing up, thats just tons of potential, athleticism, and versatility in that frontline. You have to love the potential but is swingman a bigger need? I'm not sure, I wouldnt mind getting another athletic center prospect but an athletic wing would also be nice.

Run, I'd prefer it if we actually got a vet center that knew all the tricks that Foyle/Biedrins/O'Bryant doesn't (like how Clif Robinson and Dale Davis would force guys to travel by pulling the chair out or causing them to take an extra step). Foyle doesn't do any of that stuff nor does Biedrins nor Murphy at PF or C, so I find it disgusting that we have no centers that have knowledge of the game in that defensive department and other departments on the other end of the floor. But... Foyle he especially is just bad. He is just barely a basketball player and he's basically got nothing positive outside of hustle/sportsmanship/shotblocking. Biedrins is a little bit the same way in the rawness department, but he's got no discipline with fouls and he's got no strength to guard anyone physically mature, so it's going to take a while. O'Bryant would probably be another one of those weak players for a few years and I'm not even sure he's a blue chip prospect over Biedrins.

Here's what I would like Mullin to do this season. I would like him to shop for a vet starting center. Either dump Foyle or keep him as a backup. Trade Murphy for that vet center or use it to get a 6'8 swingman that doesn't suck and isn't slow, put in Biedrins/Ike at PF.

Retain Dunleavy/Fisher as backups (Dunleavy might be hard to deal since he's BYC1 and Fisher's deal is pretty lengthy. Dfish is valuable as a sixth man for whenever Baron gets hurt and we need somebody on the roster that can catch and shoot). The problem is we don't want to see Dfish play point guard unless we have a shooting guard that can create with the ball in his hands like D-wade or Kobe Bryant or T-mac (fat chance of finding those guys in this draft). Still... maybe trading Dfish might be better for the long run if we can get a better vet or a great rookie. We could find a James Posey or get a Dorrell Wright type rookie or somebody that can fit the bill as a guy we'd like to have playing guard or forward.

If Baron is on the block for a franchise big man, I'm hoping we start Monta instead of Fisher or find a deal for Fisher that would land us a point guard with quickness. Maybe Alston (although I'm not sure if he's good for a losing franchise) or get the Blazers to cough up one of their guys like Steve Blake or land another pure point guard vet that can run some plays and be quick with the ball. Not sure there's too many guys for us that can do it all when it comes to dribbling, shooting, passing, defense, decision making and they're at least tall enough to see over defenses and can beat most quick defenders. I guess we're at the mercy of Monta Ellis' overall readiness to step in and be a big time player.

If by any chance we can't get any trade done and we're looking to trade later in the season... I'd prefer we do this with the draft:

First round: Get Carney in the first round as he's the BAP small forward and probably B.A.P. of any position by the time we're up. He's got a lot of upside, but he's probably too similar to Jrich's game (which means J-Rich can become a trading chip if needed and Pietrus doesn't have to be re-signed... that is if Carney is any good in the NBA and he's showing signs of being an nba player rather than just a track star athlete)

Second Round: Get a 6'10 jump shooter that does what Murphy does or what Clif Robinson used to do for us. That way if Murphy or Dunleavy is on their way out we have somebody at PF that can spread the floor as a shooter. Maybe Matt Haryzas, Kevin Pittsnoggle or Nick Fazerkas? This guy doesn't really have to be the rebounder that Murphy is though and he could probably be just as bad on defense, and doesn't pass much. Just as long as it doesn't start and earn double digit millions per year as a role player. Actually, I'd prefer Matt Haryas or Nick Fzerkas since both could be similar to Raef La Frentz/Crobb somewhat (shot touch, some passing, and shotblocking), but we better hope we get a guy that can handle playing big minutes at center for the rebounding and inside scoring.

If we don't want to use that 2nd round pick on a role player, I hope we try finding the Taft or Ellis this season. Like for instance, if Daniel Gibson falls or we take a chance on Guillermo Diaz. I think those two guys are supposed to be phenomenal athletes with some all around skills at combo guard. Anything that can guarantee we don't have to see much of Fisher holding onto the ball and lacking quickness to create something for himself or others. I'd love it if another Ellis or Taft fell our way. It's either that or keep Wil Bynum. I didn't mind Bynum actually. A very short 6 feet tall, but quick, can dunk... not a pure point guard... but it's like who cares if he can be effective. He can shoot a little and he can beat guys off the dribble. Hopefully, he'll learn to pass and be a pure point. Maybe he could develop into something of a Tim Hardaway lite as a backup.

Alright all the guys with big upside are going top 6. Unless someone falls, I just pick Shelden Williams.

cons: Around Foyle's size, not very co-ordinated, will get his shot blocked at the pro level

pros: he's going to be everything Foyle was supposed to. The guy is very very strong and has legitimate size, not cheeseburger size like our dopey center Foyle. He will put a body on someone and REBOUND. Can play actual interior defense and is an intimidating, crazy player. He won't be writing poetry, he won't be smiling, he won't have wobbly ugly long stank ass feet. We can easily trade Murph for whomever and have a guy that can play some legitimate defense at that spot. Him and Ike can fight for the 4 spot.

If someone slips, take them. If they don't were looking at O'Bryant, Simmons and Shelden. O'Bryant doesn't really impress me, Simmons is interesting but it would depend how he does on his workouts. The thing about simmons is that the kid can jump and isn't a slug. I've watched more of shelden and he's put up better numbers. It's a tossup between those 2.

I made a post dedicated to this, but I've got a very good hunch about Saer Sene, and by all accounts he should be availible. End the Foyle era, begin the Sene era.

I dunno... if we're serious about making the playoffs we got to put together a roster with more experience and more immediate results... If we can trade a pick for some real starters, that would be great.

I agree with you to a point, but I can't imagine who we'd get... the rumors about trading for Garnett don't really fill the need, since he's a PF, and I'm pretty sure has said he doesn't want to play C (in addition to being too slight to do it). That also creates a logjam unless Murphy or Diogu is traded, and I think both of them are valuable enouh players that I wouldn't want one to be forced to ride the bench for a prolonged KG run. Point being, I think the team needs a change at center first and foremost. Truth be told, I can't think of anyone they could get... might be possible to rob the Knicks of Frye before the fire Thomas, or maybe talk to Denver about Camby, but there's always an injury cocern with him. Isn't Ben Wallace a free agent? Come to think of it, though, both Camby and Wallace are getting up there...
