<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">NY Daily News - Vince Carter could opt out in 2007 from his contract and while there are no indicators that he would, it remains a possibility. "I have no clue," Carter said when asked whether he plans to become a free agent in the summer of '07. "I can't even tell you what would go in (the decision) as far as thinking. I don't want to make that an issue as far as, 'Oh man, he might not be here or who are they going to bring in?' This has been a wonderful place." Some believe Carter will not opt out because he will make $16.3 million in the final year of his deal, and he's playing alongside Kidd and Richard Jefferson. However, Orlando reportedly could have about $20 million in cap space available by the summer of '07. Grant Hill's seven-year, $92 million deal will expire after next season.</div> Source
NO NO NO I will be pissed if we get Vince Carter I'd much rather go after two team players with all the money we have
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Chuck:</div><div class="quote_post">NO NO NO I will be pissed if we get Vince Carter I'd much rather go after two team players with all the money we have</div> I agree completely.
I wouldn't mind Carter because he would bring something desperately needed, scoring. He would also bring in highlights
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Franchise4Ever:</div><div class="quote_post">I wouldn't mind Carter because he would bring something desperately needed, scoring. He would also bring in highlights </div> He would also bring no defense and if you have been watching the Magic lately, that's the reason why we are winning, our defense is starting to look very good and I don't want to screw that up. By 07, Dwight and Jameer will be good scorers along with Hedo. We will have the scorers and we will have the defense and play team ball.
Defense is key. We need a big time defensive stopper, Deshawn is serviceable but I'd rather draft someone. He's our weakest starter IMO, however in a perfect world Hedo would aso come off the bench.
Carter's "bad defense" is overatted. He get's some instances where he'll get beat off the dribble [like many other players], or commit a silly foul, but even when not trying he's an average defender, and on New Jersey he's played like an above average - good defender. I think people just hear he's a bad defender and accept it. Also consider that New Jersey does not even have good help defensive big man support in the frontcourt, and all three perimeter guys are able to play good defense. I don't know about him going to Orlando, what will he be, like 30? I mean if Orlando has a hole at SG, and needs that player to make them a contender, he can be a good addition.
^yeah, Carter will be 29 by 07'. Plus, i don't know why everyone's echoing the fact that he's a horrible defender, he's actually playing the best D of his career in NJ right now this season.
^agreed Carter is not as bad a defender as he is made out to be. He will bring a legitiment scoring threat to Orlando and I think with a PG like Jameer Nelson there could be a new big 3 in Nelson, Carter, and Howard. Don't forget Darko either who will most likely be even better in 07.
Another thing with Carter is his shaky health. He has a injury plagued past and by the time he is 30, who knows how well he will be able to hold up. With all of the other talent available in 2007, I don't think Vince will be a top priority for us. However, if the other players are re-signed or signed by another team, I'd welcome Vinsanity.

I don't know but I have a feeling if he comes it will be like the Shaq and Kobe, with Dwight and Carter.

Carter is a very good scorer and he will be their number one option and he is an underrated defender. Also, Carter has shown this year he can play for long periods of time and hopefully those injuries are behind him.

I can count atleast 5 this season and even 1 in the playoffs last year.

We do NOT need someone that is going to take a majority of the shots. We need more of a defensive stopper(which doesn't describe VC) Jameer and Dwight are the future. We need either a young guy(not VC) or a defensive player(not VC) to complement Dwight and Jameer. The reason we're doing so good now is balance, with VC we wouldn't have balance. Like someone said VC will be close to 30 and I don't want to give him a max deal at 30. Give him 6-7 mil for 3-4 years and yes I would take him, but not max.
I don't think he should leave New Jersey. He'll be making a lot of money and it's going good with Kidd and Jefferson.
Lets see how next season goes before we start talking about gettin a superstar. We may not need one. I think if we can play with the team concept we can use that money to keep this team together and get better backups. I think the SG is a position we need to solidify. Stevenson is having surgery and we need to make sure we have someone at that position other than Dooling in case of injuries. All the other positions we are pretty solid at for the future. Maybe if we could get one SG that plays defensive but at the same time can hit the 3 ball. Look at the 2 best teams both of those teams have players like that in, Bowen and Prince. Both are known for their defense and can hit that 3 ball when need be. I personally dont think we need a superstar on this team 2007. We will def have one in D12 and a Star in Nelson if not a superstar himself. He is making a case to be like an Iverson with the way he is playing. I love this team no need to add pieces that arent going to complement them. We have broken and built this team 2 times in the last 2 seasons. Let these guys play for a couple years together than tweak it.

While Vince may not be a defensive stud but he is capable of defending a good player. Vince would be perfect to play around Dwight and Jameer.
