With all this talk of who is the real MVP and who are the pretenders, I thought I'd shake up the message board and add some flava to the mix:

    Who's the Most Dominant Player?

SI.COM seems to think it's still Shaq:

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Heat still have the most dominant player (O'Neal) and arguably the most talented (Wade) heading into the playoffs, but their balance has made them top-heavy and their chemistry is volatile at best. Not exactly qualities used to describe NBA champions.</div>

But averages of 20.81 points and 9.2 rebounds don't exactly qualify as dominance in my book. There are about 15 other players in the League giving numbers very similiar to that on any given night.

So who is it? Kobe? LeBron? Yao-post-all-star-break-pre-broken-hand? Is it the Matrix? I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts on this...

I have to agree. Howard is gonna be an all star. He dominates the paint.

    Chris Bosh, Dwight Howard

But more so Howard, that dude is a BEAST

Watch out for the Magic next season, especially if Hill comes back and is relatively healthy and Darko improves some more FINALLY!

Now: It's Shaq. He can still grab 20 boards, post 30 points on any given night, but he's taken the passenger seat and allowed Wade to operate.

Future: Dwight Howard. The kid is a monster.

    Dwight Howard, no question.

But imo Dirk and Kobe can dominate the offensive side of the game.

No one wants to first define what "dominant" means in the context of basketball? I mean, what's the difference between "most dominant" and "best"?

Is it just a word for describing players that have the most impact on a game, but maybe not the most skill?

Shaq isn't dominant at all. No way he can put up 30/20 more than a few times a season. He's overweight, slow, and still has next to no basketball related skills.

    Kobe = MDP

you have to be kidding me, shaq can move quick for a man his size, has pretty good foot work imo and has wonderful passing skills for a bigman

Shaq is still one of the most dominant players in the game today simply because teams have to change their entire defense because of him. He commands double and triple teams at times.

The 60.1% FG though, I'd call that offensive dominance, I mean we do still have to look at his MPG. You can't score so much if you're not playing heavy minutes.

Are you kidding me??? Shaquile O'Neal is still a monster and will dominate any team he plays. He has tremendous footwork for a 330 pounder. Overweight? Have you ever wondered why they call him, "The Deisel" because he's mostly muscle. Don't come in here saying ignorant things like that.

^^lawl? I don't even know what that means to be honest. Is that like a new way to say Lol or whatever.

Anyways, I think that when Shaq plays, and is healthy of course, he commands the most attention on the court from opposing defenses. In that way, Shaq is very dominant, and very efficient in his play on the offensive end, considering his FG%. I think that Yao was becoming very dominant in the absence of T-mac, but probably not necessarily in the same way. The few games I saw it didn't seem like he was getting the same attention that shaq usually does, or maybe has, i'm not so sure anymore this season. Anyways, I think Dwight Howard will be amazing in the future and that's about it.

MDP, what does that mean? In the paint? Gamewise?

Gamewise = MDP goes to Kobe definitly
In the Paint = Shaq still, Dwight will take that one day
