Lot of choices: Foyle, Fisher, Dunleavy, Murphy, or Baron

I pick Foyle because he's the worst starting center since Todd Fuller. Fuller is better than Foyle because he can at least catch the ball. Foyle has stone hands, so it's impossible for him not to fumble the ball at least a few times a game. As long as he's our starting center (wait, make that starting anything), we will continue to be Foyled again.

Calbert Cheaney -- I thought it was his job to mentor the young guys. Apparently he forgot to tell Murphy how to play defense, Fisher how to run a fastbreak, JRich how to shoot freethrows, Foyle how to catch the ball, and DunDun how stand up straight.

    C'mon Calbert!

Seconded. Hes the key, if hes playing well and hitting shots then we're a pretty good team. He sucked all year this year, nice that his defense improved but being shut down nightly by 6'1 PGs negates that.

Honestly I blame Derek Fisher for fooling Monty into thinking he deserves 30+ minutes a night.

    Derek Fisher....

Had he not been on the team.... even with ellis, bynum miles as back ups.....we win ten more games easy and are in the playoffs. You can not play 4 on 5 with the liability on the floor. He is the worst defensive player in the leauge and game in and game out killed us trying to compensate for his lazy ass as he he stands in the paint with his hands on his hips while a man he is guarding and cant close on buries a three, then he goes out on him and gets burned.

I watched this last night as he made no effort a few times to close on martell webster when he was guarding him. In fact there was one time fisher was the last man up the court, the guy is pure laziness and needs to go.

The fisher follies dvd is 2 games to completion.....

Fisher without a doubt..this guy thinks he can carry a team on his own. Thinks everytime he takes a shot its going in and i can't remember how many times did he do some dumb plays that had cost us the game at some point. And how about all those points he leaves when he tries to make a layup and yet run a fast break? probably enough points to beat the suns in one game

Dude, you all know who I'm blaming......Foyle.

40 million, not even 8 points, 7-10 boards and some blocks. Guy cost us the season.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that -- I'm changing my answer from Fisher to Foyle.

No, wait... I'm sticking with Fisher.

Um...no, no I'll go with Foyle OMG that guy makes me wanna barf when I watch him. He makes it embarassing to be a GS fan.

Wait, wait....hold it.... Oh crap this is hard, Fisher has to be one of the worst point guards in the history of sports.... but Foyle is the worst overall player in the history of any type of athletic competition on any level.... if he played at our local highschool as a senior he'd still play JV, yeah I have to stay with Foyle.

As bad as Fisher is he can at least put up numbers, as meaningless as they are. He can actually help at times. Foyle... he can't even boost his numbers if he wanted to. Foyle is the worst, Fisher at least has fantasy value. Foyle is a joke.

Foyle misses half his 4 shots a game. He bobbles some of his few touches but he'sthe bailout when others fail on D.

Fisher and Dunleavy are not more than average on D,and either (often both) manage to shoot us out of games with frightful regularity. They toss back and forth on the perimeter but niether seems to get the ball to anyone inside. You can question Murphy's scoring in the paint, but if he stays inside he won't see the ball anyhow. Mota (not ready for primetime pg) seems able to effortlessly find guys inside and pass in transition. Fish, however, enables Monty to wallow in bad habits, and we get an undersize bogged down offense that's like some 16 seed no-name team vs Duke or U Conn, with the slim hope all the little guys can hit 3's all day.

Dunleavy? I don't know what to say. He got up to "adequate" once the season was trashed. Much of the year he deserved a ticket to the D league launching 3's in volume at about 22%. HORRID.

Baron had the notion at times that another 3 was needed and he was qualified to shoot it. Well, you do wan't to keep the defense honest, but honestly, missing long shots won't do that. Baron's upside was reduced by Monty's tendency toward a slow tempo, perimeter game.

Murphy did as asked and usually what that was didn't make sense. When he got to stay in the paint more,he rebounded as well as anyone in the league. When he got to just stick with his man and not chase about in some pseudo-zone,his D was very good. Murphy being put in the wrong role or pretty much getting left out of the offense cost games but that's on Monty.

Pietrus-Diogu-Biedrens...pretty mixed, they all got abused by the refs and misused by Monty. They all showed talent to be really good, but not the consistancy to be there yet. If any of them had recieved a regular role, like Charlie V in Toronto, they'd have made more progress.

So,aside from Monty, its Fish + Dun who get the most credit for this sad outcome. Foyle isn't an asset on offense but I'd say that about half the centers on NBA rosters. We just saw his clunkers.

It's hard to blame one player the most. But It's a combo of bad all around defense this team has and some inconsistent contribution from the bench, the starting center, starting small forward, the original starting point guard (Fisher), and sometimes the power forward (Murphy at an awful shooting clip despite being the 2nd most consistent player on the Warriors and even worse when it comes to dirty work like boxing out on the other team's missed free throws).

The thing is that many of our guys don't shoot a high % ball or have a very good mental game to play great individually or as a team. Basketball as we already know and discussed is a %'s game and is mostly mental. The Warriors are a young team that doesnt' run plays, execute, they don't take good shot selection, and they just don't have the kind of talent or chemistry to make things easier on themselves at both ends of the floor and especially at the foul line (Baron/Jrich/Pietrus are horrible for small guys). The foul line played a big part in how many opportunities we have blown this season to win games. What good is getting to the foul line if you can't convert? Especially for guards and wings, it's just sad.

The other problem I want to blame is that we just don't have an imposing front line to move the ball there. Therefore, the plays never materialize if our roster don't have reliable outside shooters or great offensive rebounders or guys who can at least keep something honest inside with dribble penetration (again something only Pietrus or Ellis can provide, but they also lack in other areas as well, especially rookies). We could go all out on the rookies playing time, but the teamwork would be less cohesive than it already is and it's already known that the young teams often don't make the playoffs because they are inexperienced. So what was this year? It was an effort to make the playoffs without the right chemistry or talent, when it should have been treated like a developmental year. Of course it can't be a developmental year unless one of the contracts of Dunleavy, Foyle, Fisher, Murphy can be moved. You still need solid vet presence, but I think any combo of those four present a lot of problems when it comes team budget. They are paid too much to be bench guys for four more years...

Also, can we even believe that the Jrich/Dfish tandem are our best 3 point shooters? That's a backcourt dominated offense with little support coming from the inside. It's tough to win that way when those shooters can't get inside as well as somebody that has ballhandling or the quickness to make things happen for other players. But I can't believe Jrich is one of our better 3-point shooters, that's tough because he's so horrible at the foul line... like Antoine Walker... I just can't stand shooters that are so mentally weak they have to think about the right way to make free throws when they get to the line. If it's not their form, these guys are just having problems with the mental game.

If we wanted to make the playoffs we needed to have reliable veterans and we just didn't. We have an oaf of a center that can't even catch the ball. We have another big guy that prefers outside jumpers to passing or doing anything else offensively like post up inside and kick it out. But the big thing is with Foyle, our starting center, you can't get any less fundamental than dropping easy passes. Then with Biedrins or Zarko, these guys are just too underweight to matchup night to night... One of them can't even stay out of foul trouble to see consistent minutes.

So we got a nearly nba ready Ike now and Murphy could be on his way out... It's just speculation, but all I can say is that I can live with Murphy if we had a good starting center, but Foyle isn't one of them. Why do we need Foyle? It's because we've got some poor ass defenders on our starting squad and I think out of the four of them (Murphy, Dunleavy, Jrich, Fisher(Baron) ) Murphy is the worst defender of them all. At least the perimeter guys will take a smart foul to save a layup, Murphy just gets out of the way and lets somebody else deal with it when there's no help coming. He is the worst defender of the squad and I think that's why Mullin/Monty went out and decided they needed a true big guy that will enforce the paint, score inside with footwork, block shots, shoot from midrange, and rebound. There's a need for Murphy's experience, rebounding, and shooting, but Diogu's offering a little bit more of the things we need to make a balanced inside/outside scoring team that can handle things defensively (Ike is still learning and he already shows more effort on help D). So is Ellis when it comes to Fisher's limitations, but he offers a little more like what Arenas/Claxton/Van Exel/Baron Davis were doing for us (dribble penetration). I think what we really needed was a real point guard that listens and carries out what the game plan is. I think Ellis isn't a real point guard yet, but he has lots of potential to become one and he's very humble with his attitude. He won't tune anybody out and he always listens to the coaching staff. I think it's because he's naturally a humble guy and he's got a lot of work to do in the NBA as a high school 2nd round draft pick.

Oh yeah, I love Baron, but if he is uncoachable by most nba coaches, he's just too much of a liability, especially when he's always hurt... He just kills the momentum like Dfish when he's trying to do too many things by himself and ignore the game plan. At least play Jkidd/Hinrich/Cassell smart when it comes to scoring and not be a Marbury/Francis type detriment to the team.

I agree, but think about it from Baron's perspective. The only person he can really look at to get things done is himself and Richardson. Baron is working with a front court of Dunleavy, Murphy, and Foyle. Probably the lowest FG% shooting, non-threatening, weak, un-athletic, un-aggressive front court in the NBA. Literally... they are Charmin soft. And thats the softest you can get.

Why does Baron overdribble and take ill-advised shots? Well we've seen whats happened when he passes to Dunleavy, he misses wide open shots all day and all night. We've all seen whats happened when he passes to Foyle, he can't even catch a damn pass. And Murphy shoots 43% as a power forward.

Hell, if I was Baron I'd be a ball hog as well if I had them as team mates. We all know Baron is a superior ball handler and can penetrate at will. But penetrating takes a toll on his injury prone body. You think he wants to penetrate and dish to a team that shoots 40%? That means 60% of his drive and dishes to team mates end up clanking/airballing or being fumbled in the hands of Foyle.

If Baron had a front court that could finish at very high percentages, do you think he'd be a ball hog? Give him a front court of Boris Diaw, Matrix, and Amare (All who shoot 50%+) and he'd pass all day and get double digit assists like nothing.

The less of a problem our front court is the less of a issue Baron will be.

Agree. But Baron can't tune out the coaching staff because he gets emotional. He is the extension of the coaching staff out on the floor and he's got to use his brain and make Foyle/Dunleavy better than they really are. And same with Fisher/Ellis when they go in as point guard. The only guy I really feel comfortable attitude wise to get this done (and this is based on what I've read about him) is Monta Ellis. But he's not ready. Most rookies aren't, even though we've seen D-Wade, Tony Parker, Lebron, Melo kick some ass. Keep in mind that those rookies had a great supporting cast all around them to take some pressure off. If we're talking big man rookies, hell, we'll have to wait forever for them to be a difference maker. Just look at Jermaine O'neil. He wasn't Amare Stoudamire right out of the box. And speaking of Amare, he got a really good supporting cast with at least one or two allstars on his team. Maybe even some former all-stars.

We've had like... none since 2003 when we had NVE/Clif Robinson. Nobody is really an all-star on this Warriors team except for Baron or Jrich who are arguably around there... All-star guards make free throws dammit! Plus, if we want to win, we need a star player inside the paint. Hopefully Ike could prove to be a Zach Randolph for us...

To say its a single players fault is foolish. Its the whole teams fault for losing, as well as the front desk. You cannot blame one for the failing of many.
