I was just looking around some mock drafts online, and it seems like everyone thinks the Mavs will draft a big guy like Paul Milsap or Marco Killingsworth or something...but I don't see why. Everyone can say Dallas still needs a strong big man, but to me - they really don't. They just won their 60th game without one, and with Diop and Dampier, I think they have enough to play tough. All that said, I think the Mavs should go with a guy like Quincy Douby with their late first rounder. They don't have any real needs, and to me it's just logical to go for a guy who can light it up off the bench rather than a guy who'll just be yet another average big man. Anyone agree?
Another Jason Terry isnt needed for the Mavericks IMO, a pass first PG would be nice for them to keep the second unit cohesive and in the offense like Avery would want. Someone like Jose Juan Barea or Dee Brown.
I dunno, I just don't think any position player is needed. I wouldn't go for a pass-first PG now, I mean we already used that number 5 pick on Devin Harris. I'm thinking we're deep enough at every position we should just go for some extra instant-offense, making the Mavs that much more dangerous. But...just my thoughts. Doesn't mean much.
I don't think we'll be signing Van Horn next year. Unless Josh Powell improves over the off season, we'll still need someone to back up Dirk or Garnett (whenever the trade goes through )
I doubt we'll re-sign Van Horn too, but I don't think that'll be a problem. Assuming everyone's healthy next year, we could probably move Griffin to the bench, and I think whenever Dirk takes a break (he only sits out like 10 minutes per game) the Griffin/Howard/Daniels/Stack/Powell group will be able to keep with the other PFs defensively, and if you have a lineup of say PG - Douby SG - Howard/Griffin SF - Stackhouse/Daniels PF - Powell C - Damp ^^in when Dirk's on the bench, we could really be lethal.
The Mavs should try to get the best shooter available. What the team is missing is the complimentary great ball-handling, great three point shooting guard who is a little slow to be the starter, someone like a Jon Barry or Steve Kerr for example.
