<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Athletic LSU freshman forward Tyrus Thomas yesterday officially added his name to a growing list of top college players who have declared themselves eligible for the NBA draft.

What does this have to do with the Knicks?

Nothing, despite their 22-59 record. All those losses normally would have earned the Knicks one of the top two positions heading into the May 23 draft lottery, but when they traded their first-round pick to Chicago for center Eddy Curry, the Knicks failed to protect it at least through the top three to five picks.

In addition to Thomas, Texas junior power forward/center LaMarcus Aldridge, Connecticut sophomore power forward Rudy Gay, who also announced his draft eligibility yesterday, and Gonzaga junior small forward Adam Morrison all have declared and figure to be among the top six picks.

So was the Curry trade worth passing up a shot at one of those players?

"I think Eddy Curry is better than any first-round player in the draft," Knicks assistant coach Herb Williams said last night. "Line them up. I think he's better than all of them."

Curry is averaging 13.5 points and 6.1 rebounds in just 26 minutes per game, but coach Larry Brown has harped on the need for him to become more of a shot-blocking, rebounding and defensive presence. On the other hand, he's a terrific low-post scorer.</div>

I find it hard to believe that Curry is better than all of the guys in this draft. 14 points and 6 rebounds on the worst team in the league really is nothing special. Any one of the guys in the top twenty of this draft can put up 14 and 6 and they might even play defense or pass the ball.

Anyway I think Isiah Thomas should be fired.

The thing that bothers me is we could have protected our pick and the deal could have gone through.

If Isiah thinks there isn't good talent in this years draft, I'm not going to complain. The one thing he's actually pretty good at is drafting and if he feels there isn't good talent, I guess we should trust him.

Ummm why would he say there are is alot of talent in this draft if he traded the pick to get Curry? It could be the 2003 draft and he would still maintain that Curry would be better than any of the prospects in the draft. You dont have to be a genius to realize that most of the prospects in the first round can average 14 and 6 easily while doing all the other things that Curry doesnt like play defense, block shots, pass the ball, etc...

Anyway I think Isiah Thomas should be fired.

Curry's been in the league for a few years now and he hasnt exactly blown people away with his improvement.

Curry better than the people in this years draft? Maybe...maybe not. But i can damn well gaurentee that 5 years from now, Curry wont be better than at least 10 of the same players.

    Probably.

    What's to like?

He's lazy, doesn't play defence and is soft as butter.

    His tattoos are pretty cool.

But seriously, I know firsthand I shouldn't trust Isiah. I used the wrong word there. What I meant was Isiah is one of the best GM's when it comes to drafting and if he felt the talent in the draft is subpar, maybe we should see how it plays out. I think the Curry trade was bad, but I'm waiting to see how it fairs.

I kind of like Curry, sure he isn't a stud on the boards but then again he is better than than like 1/3 of the Centers out there now.

I like Curry's game but I think he should improve more.....And to think about the 5 years that Curry been with the Bulls........I remember there was a Interview in the play by play show and Mark Aguirre was the guest and He said that He cannot believe that in 5 Years. with the Bulls Eddy didn't know anything about Basketball Skill when he came to the knicks......That's a lot of confidence in the teaching of Aguirre. And maybe in the next couple of years Curry can become a force down low.....Maybe not..... We all have to see.............But then again I come to think about Nazr Mohammed in San Antonio and How he's putting 20 rebounds in some of their games.......
I do really think Curry can improve....

Yeah, he said he was extremely raw for being in the league for so long. I think he was alluding to the Bulls' management, I guess. Crawford was also the same way, too. We also have to remember he didn't have a summer to improve his game with the heart situation. That's when players get better, during the offseason and he had none, which should explain why is season was so mediocre. Aguirre said he's going to big man school this summer and Aguirre WILL push him. Curry doesn't really work well on his own, but now he has someone to push and motivate him. Hopefully his best friend Jamal, who's been in the gym nonstop these past few months, can help push Curry to be better.

    Exactly....I guess.

I mean I would take Curry anyday of the week over Primoz Brezec, Raef Lafrentz, Araujo, Tony Battie, Adonal Foyle , etc.

Hmmm...Not exactly a star studded group of players you got there. And I'm not sure that Primo Brezec belongs on that list. He's just about as good as Curry I think. But you're right on about everyone else.

Anyway I think Isiah Thomas should be fired.

Dude, Adonal Foyle is the worst center in the league. I have to watch him everytime I watch the Warriors, he gets owned every night.

I'm not surprised by Aguirre's comments, but I think it has more to do with Curry's work ethic than it does with Chicago's coaching staff. Eddy Curry was notorious for coming into training camp out of shape in Chicago. The only time he committed to being in condition was the final year of his rookie contract.

Eddy Curry isn't better than Battie.
