Everyone in the gym realizes there's a 6 second differential, no need to foul, no need to foul, the ball is inbounded, and Derek Fisher chases the ball around the court until he can find someone to foul. WTF?

    Barnett's quote is classic:

    <font size=""5"">"There's no need to foul! That's a 10-year veteran doing that!"</font>

Then they pan to Monty who looks pissed off, and I'm thinking to myself that he probably didn't say jack about "not fouling" in the huddle. He had a brain fart, and Derek Fisher cut a brain fart.

That's the thing about FIsh -- he's a 10 year veteran that will never get any smarter: he makes poor decisions, kills the momentum by not finding the hot hand, and runs the worst fast break in the history of basketball. He could be in the league 40 years and he'd still play brain-fart basketball.

I don't think Monty is that great a coach but sometimes the Monty hate gets a bit much like everyone seems to be trying to find something to blame on him. But seriously it's common sense and at this level a coach shouldn't have to tell his team that there is a six second differential. But then all the Monty haters will try to spin it and say that if he was a good coach that he would have realized his team is prone to stupid mistakes in the fourth quarter like missing free throws, jacking threes when they are down two points, and fouling at the wrong time, and that because of that he should be constantly reminding them how to do these things.

I agree that it was a boneheaded play by Fish though.

Lol, I thought of the same thing when I saw it. What a classic end to finish the season. Well, the bright side is that we ended up with 34 wins, and we will get from 8-10th pick, instead of straight down to 10th pick...

When was the last time you guys saw an alley-oop? I haven't seen one since Baron got injured and Fisher started.

Mullin needs to get rid of Fisher this off-season. Then Monta should get more minutes. The guy deserves it and us Warrior fans deserve it.

As i have stated over and over..... The Warriors win at least 10 more games without Fisher on the floor this season....

Someone should hire Tonya Hardings thugs....

Fisher will never get injured ....he doesnt put enough effort out....or ever get air borne... you cant get hurt jacking up fade aways and standing flat footed walking at your opponent or standing with your hand on your hips in the paint watching

I also think the Warriors would have won 10 more games if Dunleavy didn't tank the first 3/4's of the season. So Fisher and Dunleavy are accountable for 20 losses! Add in how many wins we'd have if we didn't have Foyle and we'd be at 60 wins! [IMG]

Well, if there's one thing I like about Fisher, is that he definitely wants to win and puts in max effort every single game. He really wants to win. Can't say that about some guys on the team. I agree that sometimes he tries to do things that he isn't capable of skillwise and that it hurts the team, but I wouldn't question his effort.

    Gohn,

True, he does give 100% effort and wants to win. Just he doesn't fit into Monty's system, whatever that system may be... but then who on the Warriors does?

i saw the play where monta ellis picked up a steal and was running for a fast break and fisher was trailing on the side. Ellis passed fisher the ball and what did he do? he just threw it away like an idiot he is. Wasted a fast break on that, ellis would of had a better chance of taking the shot himself rather than giving it up to fish

I agree -- Fish plays hard, keeps himself in great shape, dives for loose balls, takes charges, etc. He gives great effort, no doubt.

And alot of the ragging I do on these players is in the context of "Warriors Fans" venting frustration talking basketball. I love these guys. I'll always root for anyone in a GS uniform. And I cheer big-time when Fish drains a clutch three.

When I get frustrated with these players, I almost feel like a coach who is pissed at his players. No -- I'm not pompous enough to think I should be an NBA coach. And we all know I'm sitting at my comp after work or school typing my criticism, not on the NBA hardwood trying to keep Mike Bibby in front of me or Matt Harpring from going back door. I know it's alot harder than it looks. But, if I do say so, I also know basketball, and I have fun venting my frustrations on these boards as a way of being such a die hard fan of the team.

With that said, I think Fish gives maximum effort, and occaisionally makes a terrific pass at the PG position. But I have given him a litmus test this year at the PG position:

The question: How effectively does Derek Fisher run the fast break?

The answer: Derek Fisher runs one of the most convoluted, vision-less, off-tempo fastbreaks in the history of the game.

it got to the point where I would just watch specifically for DFish fastbreaks on my DVR and dissect them. I know, it's sick, eh? It's torture. But I would. And I'm just baffled time and time again. He does everything you're not supposed to do, and he probably costs the Warriors 4 to 6 points a ball game. I consider poor fastbreaks to be turnovers. When you have 3-on-1 you should score 90+% of the time. If you don't, your coach should chastize you.

What's more telling (about the coach or the player, take your pick) Is that DFish would make a classic, fundamental error on the fastbreak one game, Barnett would comment on how completely unsound the mistake was, and then Fisher would come back two games later and make the same mistake again. He proved to me that he either didn't try or wasn't able to successfully learn how to do one of the most basic things in all of basketball. This is not something that you must be 6'9" or an elite athlete to do. You don't even have to be that smart: take the ball to the middle of the floor; allow your wings to join your flow (that means either speed up a bit or slow down just a bit so that you create a polarity -- YOU DON"T ALWAYS NEED TO GO FULL SPEED -- make a jump stop no further than just inside the top of the key to the free throw line; make a bounce pass to which ever wing is more open. Simple.

Fish's biggest problem is he always goes full speed sprint on the fast break. Do you ever see Steve Nash do that? Dude looks like he's going in slow motion sometimes. Why? He naturally creates a polarity between himself and his teammates -- you sprint, head down, and you lose that connection between yourself and your targets. Be quick, but don't hurry. Nash uses the spacing between his teammates on the fast break to create a sense of dynamic tension -- like an invisible rubber band -- between the players. He stretches this band, pulls it, and plays off it, to snap a crisp, precise pass at just the right moment.

Fish? He puts his head down, sprints up court at max speed, out of control, goes from the wing, loses sight of his teammates, and either jacks up a fade-away lay-up as he falls out of bounds, or commits a charge.

Now, if he comes back and does this $hhit next year, it'll prove he didn't take a hard look at the game film this year and try to improve his game. I know JRich will work hard this summer. But I don't know about everyone else. With some players, it may just be too late to change bad habits or fundamental errors in thought process. With some players, it may just be time to desperately find a way to trade their sorry a$$.

maybe fisher is just a stubborn bitc......he never learns from his mistakes and he keeps doing them every single time. Sometimes i see him running into the screens rather than avoiding them trying to get the charge. Sure he might get like one or two once in a while but when he does that, he makes the front court get out of position because of his lazy buff ass. I don't think he will ever change nor will he ever learn from his mistakes. His ego is too big, he's getting over paid by millions, he has three rings so why should he care?

Good analysis of Fisher's play this season, Alleyoop. I totally agree with you, especially about how he handles fastbeaks. I cringe everytime it happens.

And this was a playoff team? Damn we got stupid people on this roster. Foyle... Pietrus... Fisher... just a lot of players making fundamental errors game to game (lot of the dumbness probably goes unnoticed because we have no context of the plays being ran, and then the coach looks like the idiot). Then the guys like Dunleavy or Zarko who got the brains for the game are too soft and weak or can't shoot or defend. Ridiculous... we'll just never have the brains or the physical talent or the all around, inside/outside game, or defense as long as management keeps putting together a bunch of crap with too many flaws to hide and not enough strengths.

If we can get a point guard that listens, runs the team like a coach, and just knows better, I think that's one step in the right direction... If a point guard just isn't thinking like a coach or can't understand what the coach is saying, he's not a point guard.

Also, we need a center! Foyle is just so clueless and has no court sense whatsoever. He clogs up the lane half the time when there's a ballhandler ready to make a move. He's right in his way (and it wasn't a screen). It's awful. Poor hands and poor brains for the game.

Lol -- totally Custodian. He'll come over from weakside like he wants to post up or some $hitt, and it's like "Dude, WTF bro? Get outta the way!"

I love Foyle's heart man but damn! that guy kills me sometimes. At least he stopped with the "one-handed laser-beam baseball-style outlet pass" on every rebound. Remember that? Sometimes he'd grab a rebound and he'd already be throwing a "shot-put style" shooter pass 94 feet before he ever even turned around to look down court. Oh, Adonal Foyle. You are priceless.

I thought we were on the same page in regards to Fisher "the liability"

He is the laziest player on the floor. I dont see where you can say he gives maximum effort.

On the defensive end, he sags off his man and becomes a spectator in the paint watching the battle for a rebound, never participating or boxing a man out, it is disgusting. Also, when he sags off his man, if the ball rotates back to him, he walks flat footed at his man and never closes waving his left hand in the air. You never see fisher actually jump in the air or make any effort to close like i watched Ellis make countless times tonight. F
Fisher, always tries to go under the pick and then basically considers himself out of the play. If the man picking him gets a body on him he quits.

He can't keep anyone in front of him and plays ole' defense as his opponent walks right past him and he once again becomes a spectator instead trying to hustle to catchup with his man.

I see fisher spending more time on the defensive and offensive end with his hands on his hips just standing doing nothing than anyone on the team.

I always wondered why fisher is never in foul trouble. That is because he never makes that extra effort. The only foul he ever gets is those reaches, half the time the play is past him and he quits on it.

There is no defense of fisher's play. It is horrendous.

On he offensive end. I can't even begin to relate how bad a player he is both as a point guard and shooting guard. He is a glorified Damon Jones and i say glorified cause i would much rather have Jones on our team than Flopper.

I appreciate cheering for the home team and rooting hard for them. I have been a Warrior fan for well over 30 years now and the only player i have ever despised has been Jason CAffey. The ultra black hole.

The only rooting i do for Fisher is that he will get injured as that seems to be the only way he will ever get out of the line up and quit hurting the team. The only problem is the guy will never get hurt because he never puts himself in a position to get injured, he never leaves the ground. And safe calculated dives for loose balls dont impress me.

Fisher is the worst player, not point guard, not shooting guard, but the worst player the franchise has ever had get significant minutes. He better be traded or we will never see the playoffs with him on our active roster.

The one thing he was sold to us and brought in for was his supposed veteran savvy. And he demonstrates every game what a moron he is. That play tonight fouling with 29 seconds on the clock was below high school. The guy playes the game with as much veteran savvy as a sixth grader.

He does nothing positive for us but the occasional shot going in or his spot up....and we can find 100 players that can play as well as him in nbdl or undrafted or in europe.

If no team is willing to take him on in a trade, he better prepare himself for the only role he is qualified to fulfill. And that is replacing Cheaney at the end of the bench, collecting DNP's, and never taking his warm up jersey off again.

This season I developed a new reflex. Every time Fisher and Dunleavy shot from the perimeter, I would cringe and curl up in a ball, too scared to watch the brick.

Foyle is complete crap and offers zero value.

Fisher has some value but he isn't a point guard. That was a big mistake by Mullin. The guy can't run a team to save his life. *chuck* *chuck* *chuck*. That's what he thinks is going to turn it around but of course Monty is too scared to confront him.

ohhhhh my god what a joke. A scared barefoot little girl for a coach, a fat jamaican equivalent of rainman playing center and mr AND1 himself derek fisher playing point. Thank god it's all over for now.

Foyle can't even block shots like he used to, and that was the ONLY thing he could do. So if he can't even do that, he's USELESS.

If Mullin had signed Foyle for his market value ~ -$40 mil and did not give an extension to Dunleavy, think of the possibilities we could have had this offseason.

I swear to god Mullin is an idiot, he said in an interview that he won't let friendships cloud his view of who to trade and what not. Because thats what a good GM does.

Hello? Giving the most horrible SF, Dunleavy, a 44 mil extension when he is a restricted FA? Sounds like his emotions got the better of him, or shall I say stupidity. Jesus christ, that signing made no sense.

I think this off-season Mullin is going to lock-up Calbert Cheaney for 6 years and $57 mils for his veteran presence in the lockerroom. I heard he's also going to give Chris Taft the full-ride of 8 years $100 mils -- he doesn't want to risk losing Taft to free agency 5 years from now.
