I forgot to make a thread about this, but a few days ago on ABC(i think it was) Mark Jackson at the Halftime Show with Scottie Pippen and one other guy I forget. Well, Mark said (what a lot of us have been saying) WHEN IT IS ALL SAID AND DONE, KOBE BRYANT WILL BE REMEMBERED AS THE GREATEST BASKETBALL PLAYER EVER, SURPASSING MICHAEL JORDAN. When I heard this, I was like, WHOA! Nice Mark, preach brotha. Well Scottie of course, backed up Michael (even if Scottie deep down believes Kobe is better or doesn't like MJ he still has to say MJ is the greatest ever or everyone will be all over his ass). Mark Jackson said Kobe was a better shooter, better ball handler, etc. He said only thing Michael has on him is Michael's ability to be a Lock Down Defender, which Kobe is getting better at every season. Well post your thoughts, I agree with Mark 100%, and to me this is means a lot when a player that has played against Michael since the late 80's, early 90's says something like this. DO NOT RUIN MY THREAD AND TURN THIS INTO A WAR, Just post your thoughts. MJ fans are more than welcome too. I just want to know if you guys think Mark was out of line, or right on point.. Remember he said WHEN IT IS ALL SAID AND DONE, KOBE WILL BE BETTER, NOT RIGHT NOW. Thanks, looking forward to your replies.
If Kobe gets a championship soon which i believe he will than they will finally give him his props but til than the world wont. but i believe he is better.
comments from kobe fans or mj fans would be heavily biased.. im not a big fan of kobe nor mj, yet i love both of them games.. WHEN IT IS ALL SAID AND DONE, KOBE WILL BE BETTER, NOT RIGHT NOW. no..no1 knows the future, mark jackson doesnt , u n me dont...who knows if he will still accel even more or he just stays the same, who knows if he can carry lakers to a champ on his own or he just keeps on putting his own numbers?.. i guess we all jus hv to wait n c 'when everything is all said and done, i think mj is better, right now'
there is no comparison right now. MJ is mj, Kobe is kb. Talent wise, kobe has the edge. But accomplishment wise, MJ has teh edge.
huh? okay, forget about the MVP trophy count disparity. MJ has 6 titles WITHOUT a dominant big man. Kobe has 3 WITH one. So for Kobe to surpass MJ, he would have to realistically get AT LEAST 4 MORE RINGS!!! To do that, he'd probably have to be almost as good at 35 as he is now which given his workout ethic might be possible.
Yes, Indeed Mark Jackson said that after everything is said and done Mr. Bryant will be better than Michael Jordan...(skills wise) will he surpass Jordan's achievements? Only time will tell. This is coming from (Mark Jackson) a guy who battle the Bulls teams in the 90s with the Pacers. But lets all remember that Mr. Bryant already has 3 Championships, and which Jordan didn't have at age 28. Jordan brought so many things to the NBA..popularity, brand, respect, authority, etc. Unfortunately, Mr. Bryant's conflicts will not allow him to do that (too many haters in this world) ...but he will come close...Mr. Bryant will be his own image, brand, respect, etc...lets remember nobody compares Kereem to Wilt, or Shaq to Wilt.., or Wilt to Russel...because they were their own "player"...their own image. But this is my finally tought...Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan are going to be the best all time players to ever play the game.
Marc jackson is the biggest homer in the world, i actually heard scottie pipppen walked out of the studio after that incident. there's no doubt kobe is a talented player and mj isn't god, but you can't say kobe is better becuase there isn't any proof aside from people's hunches. that's like me saying i'll become a billionaire in the futre it could be true but there's no evidence it will happen. and as for kobe's defense in comparison to jordan's you really can't. kobe was actually a better defender during his younger years when he wasn't the main scoring option for the lakers.
I watched it live, I think he just said it to get a rise out of Scottie, he looked at him afterward like "Did you hear what i just said?" Also, I don't think Scottie walked out, if I remember right he was on the post game show as well.
Yeah I heard about the comments, and even though Kobe is one of my current favorite players, he has a long ways to go before he can pass Jordan. It's not impossible for him to be the greatest of all time, but ultimately he needs to start winning titles. One comment I found confusing was Mark Jackson claiming Kobe only needs one more title to be equivalent to Michael Jordan's 6. His justification was if Shaq and Kobe stuck together they would easily win 6.
Get the facts straight...Scottie did not walked out of the studio...the other co-host (forget his name) said, "Scottie is ready to walk out of the studio...."
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Pablo23:</div><div class="quote_post">Get the facts straight...Scottie did not walked out of the studio...the other co-host (forget his name) said, "Scottie is ready to walk out of the studio...."</div> The other person was Dan Patrick. Mark Jackson was on the radio yesterday and said Scottie Pippen actually agreed with him off the air.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting DIRK4L1FE:</div><div class="quote_post">kobe had shaq, but mj had scottie</div> and who would you rather have?
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting DIRK4L1FE:</div><div class="quote_post">kobe had shaq, but mj had scottie</div> The biggest problem with this statement, is that Kobe didnt have Shaq, Shaq had Kobe there is a difference, Shaq was the guy that teams struggled to matchup against not Kobe.... Not to take anyting away from Kobe as a player but the difference between him and MJ during their chip runs is the fact that MJ was the guy nobody could matchup with...Kobe rarely seen double teams during the Lakers championship runs. Teams either designed a specific defense to stop MJ, like the Jordan rules with the Pistons during the early 90's or acquired or designated a specific guy who job it was was to do nothing else prety much accept focus on MJ for a 7 game series, like Gerald Wilkins in Cleveland, Starks in New York etc. Kobe never seen anything like that, the close thing to it would be the Spurs putting Bowen on him or Sac bring Christie, but both those teams new the focal point was still Shaq, MJ had those guys plus 4 other guys with their eyes focused on him for a full 48, a big difference.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting shapecity:</div><div class="quote_post">The other person was Dan Patrick. Mark Jackson was on the radio yesterday and said Scottie Pippen actually agreed with him off the air.</div> hahah, I knew it!
No comparison we're talking about Michael freaking Jordan. No one will ever be as good. Kobe will be the next Kobe there will never be another Jordan not even Lebron.
Lmao kobe didnt see double teams in the lakers championship run?? Kobe got double teamed most of the times he caught the ball. And if shaq had kobe y isnt Shaq doing anything in Miami? Y didnt he win a championship with the orlando magics? And he came to La and won with kobe.
Yeah I heard these comments, and although I see this has a great possibility, i have to agree with a majority of the people who have commented in that it's just impossible to tell. Mark Jackson was kind of just pissing me off though. Like I have no problem with the statement, it was the fact that when Scottie would try to respond, he would just start yelling louder, that is so freakin annoying. He stopped backing up his point, and just yelled it with more volume. I'd have been really annoyed if I was scottie. As for Kobe being better than jordan. It'll be teh same type of progression we've seen in almost all sports over generations. The focus on athletics and dedication, and starting earlier, and workouts and all that have just increased the athletes abilities today. Jordan was better than his predecessors, and I'm sure there will be plenty of people that will be considered better than the greats in the history of the sport today.
