Brian you're missing the point about JR Smith. We already have an All Star playing SG for the Lakers, why would we want to develop one to come off the bench? JR Smith is only going to be on his rookie salary for another season. If the Lakers groom him into an All Star caliber player, then he's going to expect to be paid like one. The Lakers really don't need another All Star on the team at SG. They just need to bring in some specialists and improve their depth.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Brian:</div><div class="quote_post">^ well, i guess i can understand that. but i would much rather trade a second for JR smith. but in reality, i doubt our 2nd can even get him anyways.</div> You'd be surprised at what you can find in the second round. Warriors got Monta Ellis at 40th, and he's a boatload better than J.R. Smith for a fact. Also... if he gets burned by Kobe all the time I think he'd just be pissed and stop practicing. He doesn't even want to practice, and if he does practice and gets burned by Kobe he'd want to practice even less.

He has amazing talent, and is worlds ahead of JR Smith when it comes to the fundamentals, being humble, and working hard. I'm really pissed the Lakers didn't draft him instead of Von Wafer.
How a kid that averages 38pts a game in his senior year of highschool (29 pts overall through 4 years) with a game high 72 and gets the title of Mr. Mississippi drops to 40th pick is beyond me.
That probably did happen, Monta said in an interview he had to check behind his back every 5 minutes when walking home because the neighborhood was so bad. I heard when Mullin went there he saw Monta walking on the street and told him to get in the car because they didn't want to step out of the car lol. I find it odd how a kid that grows up in a place like that has good manners and is humble, none of that hardcore bs attitude. But the main reason why he fell down the draft was because of he's very skinny and had knee problems at the time I believe.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting shapecity:</div><div class="quote_post">Actually I recently read why Ellis dropped so far in the draft. Apparently, the high school he went to is in one of the roughest neighborhoods. So a lot of scouts who were scheduled to meet him turned their car around because they were intimitaded by the neighborhood.</div> That probably did happen, Monta said in an interview he had to check behind his back every 5 minutes when walking home because the neighborhood was so bad. For some reason some of my posts get inserted behind the last person who posted.
