I figure the reason we're so bad is that our starters are really backups. If you put our starters on other teams, then they'd probably would be backups.

C - Foyle. He may not even make backup. This is laughable.
PF - Murphy. On a playoff team, he may be a backup.
SF - Dunleavy or Pietrus. Backups. Next.
SG - JRich. Okay we got one starter.
PG - Baron. He's a starter, but he'll have problems with the coach. Fisher? They'll glue his butt to the bench.

We should be playing our backups more -- Ike, Monta and AB. They couldn't do any worse than our starters and their W-L record.

I agree completely. Ike and Monta need the minutes, this team can be amazing in as soon as 2 or 3 years if they both develop, Jason stays, and at least ONE decent low post guy comes to the team. And after that happens, guys who can still play and their careers are sputtering out will come around and accept reduced contracts!

Jason, Baron are definite starters. Murphy could be a starter on several teams. Pietrus has the potential to be a starter, he's still 24 years old and will have this next season to really prove himself, though if it's with the Warriors it would have to be out of position unless if there is a big deal this summer. Andris, Ike, and Monta each have potential to be starters. Chris Taft if he is healthy could possibly become a starter on a team desperate for a center. Fisher started for the championship Laker teams.

If these guys aren't starters then they are all players who can put up points, most double digit numbers when given the suitable PT.

You'll have to ask Monty about that... and slap him while you ask.

I was so bummed out that Taft hurt his back, from what I saw and I'll admit it wasn't much, he seems like a good player that could be a starting center eventually. He played good defense in the post, blocked some shots, VERY athletic, could rebound, and has a smooth baby hook. He's also a huge kid, I remember seeing people had trouble posting him up cause he's so big. Not to mention he's very patient on defense and puts a body on them.

I'll say with confidence that he's better than Foyle. But thats obvious cause Foyle is at the bottom of the line.

Yeah he can't be worse than Foyle. But Taft is a player who really could block shots in the limited stats I have seen of his in the NBA. Also he is supposed to be a big body, and big presence in the paint, like Dampier size or something. If he can get his health set right, which could be a big if, then I could see him being an ok center in the NBA. But yeah, at least better than Foyle.

But I also like Biedrins. Why Andris averaged less than 15 minutes per game this year is beyond me. Of course foul trouble is an issue, but still. Dunleavy got many more minutes at the 4 position than Biedrins got at any position besides the bench this whole season.

    You mean on playoff teams?

Man... probably Jrich or Baron. Nobody else. I could see Murphy or Fisher starting on teams that have two true superstars because you need at least a few shooters that can nail the wide open set shot. Fish and Murphy are money when they don't have to create offense for themselves or others.

Definitely not Dunleavy or Foyle or Pietrus or Biedrins or Zarko. They don't do enough on the defensive or offensive end to affect the game on a nightly basis. Murphy is consistent, but I don't think he'd fit on most playoff teams, because playoff teams play defense. Those kind of teams need to have good all around defense from all the starters or at least do something to alter a shot like mediocre defenders like Dirk Nowitzki or Pau Gasol or Raef La Frentz. (No way Murphy is a good interior defender on his best day, no shotblock timing or athleticism). Also with Murphy a playoff team needs to have an inside scoring center that can intimidate on defense, block shots, and pass the ball because Murphy certainly won't. He ain't Robert Horry, nor is he even Rasheed Wallace, and those perimeter shooting big men can at least play all around defense or they wouldn't be on their respective teams.

So yeah... we only have like one starter who is healthy most of the year, the other is injured and can be a really bad player when he's shooting 37% in high volume. We have two marginal starters in Fish or Murphy. The rest are all bench guys or projects or not as ready as we think. Ellis/Pietrus for example. Pietrus looked amazing at times, but he's got to play both in the open court and the half court and get smarter in his shot selection and ability to create with the ball. The one thing that is stopping Pietrus from being a pretty good Ricky Davis type player isn't Monty, Elie or Keith Smart, it's Pietrus and his bad feel for the game.

Dunleavy is super horrible this year... Hopefully, it's an off year because Mullin looks like an idiot and fans told him so NOT TO SIGN HIM JUST YET UNTIL HE PROVES HIMSELF. He didn't even any good prior years like Murphy or Jrich did to warrant locking him up before evaluating him and exploring other small forward options to complement Jrich and Murphy.

I forget MP is still very young, but with Dun getting the big contract I think MP is gone. Not that MP should be gone, but I'll never understand why Mullin had to give Dun the big contract. He could have waited until Dun EARNED it this season.

Of course, we now know Dun didn't earn it and probably would be on the trading block with low trade value. But he wouldn't be able to ask for much, so it's a trade off. Some team like the Clippers with his dad could scoop him up.

Then we could've kept MP. Still, MP doesn't have the kind of basketball smarts that Dun has. MP is the more athletic player, but his 3-pt shot is weak by NBA standards and his regular shooting isn't that great. I suppose you're saying his shooting and play can improve, so IF Mullin didn't extend Dunleavy and MP wasn't asking for an outrageous amount, then we could've likely kept him. Is he better than Dunleavy? It's hard to say. Defensively and athletically. Yes. In other areas, probably not.

That would be great if Dunleavy Sr. would actually want to trade for his kid. Maybe we could get Korolev or Shaun Livingston instead.

Both Murphy and Fisher have limited games so don't think they'll be starters on a playoff team. Maybe Murphy if he could continue to rebound and get points for a good team like he does on the Warriors. It would be harder for him to match his numbers on a better team.

I thought Fish could have been traded to the Pistons this year for Darko. Yeah, Fish is overpaid, but he could've brought playoff experience and shooting to the Pistons. They fit the criteria or having two superstars. They have four. Maybe five. Even at Fish's high salary, I thought maybe the Pistons would bite because they can compete for the NBA Finals for the next several years. Fish could give them 2 - 3 solid years as a backup PG after Lindsay Hunter retires.

    Dunleavy As a starter
SPLIT G GS MPG FG% 3P% FT% OFF DEF RPG APG SPG BPG PPG
    68 68 32.7 .417 .294 .780 .9 4.0 4.9 3.0 .7 .40 11.9
Pietrus As a starter(usually out of position at the SF position)
SPLIT G GS MPG FG% 3P% FT% OFF DEF RPG APG SPG BPG PPG
    18 18 30.0.400 .315 .673 1.4 2.4 3.9 1.2 .9 .28 11.6

I suppose it's close. But anyway, Dunleavy's extention kind of is a downer, until he averages about five assists per game or at least about 15 points per game, if not both. I think it's going to be difficult to move him in the next two seasons if he's BYC.

With Dun being extended, we'd have a better chance of getting Sr. to coach here. Not a bad idea.

Murphy would start on a lot of teams or at least get major minutes. Well used he could possibly lead the NBA in rebounds...and that comes in handy. Ike and Pietrus could each start on several teams. Look at houston..both Ike and Pietrus could start there. Pietrus would start for Utah, the Wiz,the Magic,Hornets and Nugs.. Ike or Murph could start for the Nets or Celtics or Bulls or Lakers. there are a few places where Biedrens or Monta could start right now..and that list will get bigger pretty quick. A LOT of Warriors could start for Toronto...even Foyle.

Woah, Rem. Pietrus could start in Houston? If Stro got benched for doing what he does on the floor, I think Piety and him will be sharing the same doghouse as roomates. Utah... I doubt Sloan is impressed with him in a halfcourt setting. Wiz I could see possibly as an open court finisher, but not above Caron Butler. The magic might use him because Deshawn Stevenson ain't all that and neither is Keyon Dooling. Hornets' Kirk Snyder or J.R. Smith aren't that impressive although Snyder could be a decent player and so can Smith if he develops his game. Nuggets have no shooting guard so that's a lock....

I guess a lot of our guys could start for teams, just not on playoff teams... which is why we're not in the playoffs. What teams would Dunleavy start for? I don't think the WNBA would even start him.

I could believe Foyle would start over Rafael Araujo. He's that bad!

I haven't gone through team by team, but my bet is that foyle would be able to start an more teams than Dunleavy. If he was next to the right players on a tough nosed team he could do pretty well (by pretty well I mean he could get 8 and 11 and be close to the league lead in blocks). He just doesn't fit at all next to dundun and Murphy.

Murphy is overrated, but he puts up numbers. I'm sure he could start on a few teams, but they'd be worse off for it. Dunleavy.. let's not go there. If he played consistently the way he did for that 8 game stretch this year and shot the way he did in the last 15 games last year, then he's start on a handful of teams. But that'll never happen.

I can't believe you said that CohanHater. Dunleavy is more versatile than Foyle.

I know it's Friday afternoon, TGIF time, and you took off from work early to down a six-pack. Oh wait... it's not Friday.

Need I remind you about Foyle's bank shot:

lol.. I like dunleavy as a supporting player. Foyle takes a ribbing, but honestly, he'd be a strong asset to a team with a 4 that can seal off his guy. He'd do great out east. Dunleavy will help his team win games in the future, no doubt.. but more like the way that Danyy Ferry did at the end of his career... as a role player.

Don't forget that points are very rarely the way to measure a starting 5. Those few that can do it on both ends are hall of famers. I in no way am claiming that Foyle would or ever could be that guy. But he flushes the ball well (when he catches the ball) and plays very good defense when he doesn't get put in foul trouble because Dunleavy or Murphy's guy has a full head of steam barreling straight at him

LOL. Good stuff, JV. Might want to put a link to that instead of an image since everyone is forced to load it up and it's like a meg.

Foyle is pretty laughable at times that it hurts.

fisher - They glue his ass to the bench..... how true. Fisher couldn't be a back-ups back up. What a waste of roster space he is.
