John Paxson and Scott Skiles have the Chicago Bulls headed in the right direction. The Kings have Geoff Petrie as their GM. He is great. But if I'm not mistaken he spent his entire career in a Blazer uniform. I know for a fact he was never a King. Anyways, my point is it's always nice and fitting to have a GM that was a past player of the Franchise he's managing. He's just simply going to care more and poure his all into it alittle more. One of Paxson's best moves was getting Scott Skiles as coach. This easter the Bulls clinched a playoff birth if I'm not mistaken. Exactly 10 years ago to that day, they broke the Lakers single season record of 69 wins, to make the new one 70. Then ofcourse went on to put the mark at 72. I always new the Bulls wouldn't struggle for ever. This is now BACK-BACK playoff seasons. Kirk Hinrich has ben great. But the more the Bulls stay consistant like this they'll return to the statis as a organazation Big Free Agents like to come to. And they will continue to get better. I just hope the series against Miami gets more interesting when the Heat come to the United Center. The only connection I have to the Bulls is my Father was boren in Chicago. He's a Bulls fan. I look forward to the Bulls continuoing to improve. Like I said hopably atleast give Miami a good run for their money. GO BULLS!!!!![IMG]

I don’t know if it’s as much a factor having played for the franchise as it is simple just a matter of being an intelligent person. Did Coangelo (sp?) ever play for the Suns when he was their GM? Im pretty sure he wasn’t, but he simple knows how to be a general manager. It’s more a matter of being a smart person then having played for the franchise. Larry Bird is a great general manager for the Pacers yet he never played there. In other words if Thomas was Detroit’s general manager he would not all of a sudden earn how to manage a team.

I'm not saying it's a guaranteed priority for a GM to be managing a team that he played for in order to be a good GM. Case in point, Geoff Petrie GM for the Kings played for Portland and has never woren a Kings uniform in his life. And you named some classic GM's that are managing teams that they didn't play for, yet are doing marvelouse jobs at their managing. More current GM's in the NBA right now are managing teams they either didn't play for, or if did, spent very little of their career there. Is all I'm saying Best Kept Secrets, is several GM's threw out history who did GM their former team, have publically said that they sure feel lucky and enjoy managing the very Franchise they love. Your right you most definately have to be very intelligant and smart to be a GM in the NBA. Being SMART - Is a priority for being a General Manager; I didn't say it's a priority to be managing a former team you played for; that would be luticress thinking on my part if I said that. No I said it helps alittle. Because your going to enjoy managing a former team you played for alot more, than in a city you never lived, fans that never cheered you on, and many other factors. Where do you beleive Jerry West has had more fun managing; for the Los Angeles Lakers or Memphis Grizzlies? This is a no brainer. If the GM isn't in it just for the money he will more enjoy continueing to be apart of an organazation he played for rather than one he didn't. And atleast myself at stuff I do I'm better at it when I have more fun doing it rather than when I'm haveing fun, but not as much fun. The more fun a ball player has the better he'll be at playing ball. I never said one criteria that must be in the makeing to do good at being GM is doing it for a former team. I more or less said it helps. It's better chemistry. But you are right Best Kept Secrets it is very much criteria to be smart to do good at being an NBA GM. Like your right I beleive Larry Bird has done better at mannaging the Pacers than John Paxson has the Bulls. Is it because he's smarter. Possably, Larry Bird is one of the smartest to ever pick up a Basketball. But then again, correct me if I'm wrong, but hasen't Larry managed the Pacers for 6 seasons where as Paxson has managed the Bulls for only he second year. Larry took over a team with Rik Smits, Reggie Miller, Jalen Rose, and they had made the playoffs for a few years. Paxson took over a team that sadly lost Jay Williams -(who they thought might be good enough someday to build the team around), their best players was Kirk Hinrich -(not to say he isn't good), the rest of the team was players that only put up good stats do to the math being someone had to do it, because all those players on most good teams would have been little factor role players, and for years the Bulls finished each year almost in last place. Paxson has done an excellent job. But your right Best Kept Secrets; it's definately a priority to be smart to be a GM, not a requirement to have played there. GO BULLS!!!!![IMG]
