    Number is a number. 24 sounds good. One better than 23! hehe

    It's also a marketing ploy on Kobe's behalf. I'm positive that next year, he'll be number 1 in jersey sales. He'll rake in a lot of money for Reebok (jersey makers) and himself.

    He'll also put himself in position for Nike to make one hell of an add for him. I wouldn't be surprised if Nike put this thought in his head. Imagine a commercial of Kobe hitting game winners, hoisting his arms when he won the championships, scenes from his 62 point game and his 81 point game...all with taglines involving 24/7.

    "I work my ass off, 24/7. I'm relentless, 24/7. I'm the best that there is today, 24/7. I'm unstoppable 24/7. I'm a winner, 24/7. I am Kobe Bryant, 24/7.

    Ehh? I think Nike should send me the hiring contract, right now.

    I like that... you should work for Nike... but think about this one?

    MJ = 23.

    Kobe = MJ and 1.

    if i was a kobe fan i would rather a #8 jersey than #24
    hopefully the #8 jerseys go on special, if so i might pick one up just for the collection

    I really hope this is a marketing ploy in that the marketing machines that surround Kobe Bryant are just trying to gauge what kind of interest there is in Kobe Bryant right now, see what kind of feed back this gets. Then, they'll come up with some odd excuse to explain why Kobe sticks with #8.

    As for everyone talking about "8 is his past blah blah blah" that means he's been playing with his past the last 2 years...

    one of his greatest acccomplishments (if not THE greatest) was this season, not only his play- but where he took his team, regardless of whether he was MVP or not. He wore #8 this season and it's his legacy...

    Who wants to start a protest with me boycotting #24??? I looked for contact info on the Lakers website and there was none...I want to somehow start a movement that says "It's not too late to save #8!"

    great idea i'm doing the same and another theory for Kobes number change :

    Because it will throw off the triple team defenders.

    Kobe decided to wear No. 24 because No. 8 makes him look fat.

    he better have a better reason than "I feel like it"

    I still wouldn't want that even if it did look cool. Kobe's number is 8 just as MJ's number is 23.

    Well can someone tell Kwame to request a number change? I mean 54? [IMG] His old 5 would look nice.

    When Kobe rocked the tights he set a new trend around the league. I wonder other players start changing jersey numbers as well.

    interesting point.... Lebron, D-wade, and probably VC will be the first to copy the number change, if it happens.

    This would be a smart marketing move to get the number 8 jersey sales skyrocketing. People will be in a big panic to get Kobe's 8 jersey before he makes the change. Then when his #8 jersey sales sky rocket, he can make the announcement that he decides to stay 8 and put 24 to rest....

    ^hahhaha that's a good idea, hopefully that's what will end up happening.

    I think its a good idea sure it will look wierd at first but then people will get use to the new number. ANd he will re-sell jerseys like crazy cuz alot of people already have his jersey no need to buy em unless he changes his number!
