OK I hate to go here, and I already said Nash deserved the award... Anyone think if Nash was doing exactly everything Kobe did for the Lakers, and Kobe was doing exactly everything Nash did for the Suns that Nash would still win? Do you think Kobe may have lost because of his rape case? Do you think Nash would have won averaging 35ppg and carrrying the Lakers to the 7th seed being whi...nvm.

Nash is a PG, Kobe is a SG. Kobe is supposed to score, and Nash is supposed to pass and create.

Nash is a good candidate for MVP. For his size and the way he makes his teammates better, he more than deserves it plus he has right values and isn't selfish under the limelight like other players like Kobe. He is unique, like he'd be the type to make the world a better place, not like Kobe or LeBron who would do their thing only to make money and benefit the giant profit making industries. So what if Kobe scored 81 points, it was against the raptors, and they just let him, they could have fouled the crap out of him and hurt him if they wanted, but they showed good sportsmanship. Besides Nash brought the Suns to the top of their division. How many of you honestly thought that with Stoudemire out, that the Suns wouldnt even be close? Well he proved many wrong, don't throw another criticism at him, give him a break

People also thought the Lakers would be better, but ~7-8th seed for the most part. Warrios also in the same boat. Many people acknowledged that even with Amare out, a great offensive system is able to win games during the season because teams won't know how to counter against you effectively. Sacramento was considered the only real comp, but they didn't do so well. Also I don't think the MVP should be based on which guy has better values or which guy would be more likely to make the world a better place. This is basketball, not Mr America.

I wonder if he takes the same view with Nash winning it again.

However, Stern has nothing to do with the NBA MVP votes. These writers who vote on the MVP award are all over the map with their choices. Last year PJ Brown received a 1st place vote and Shaq was left completely off some of writers top 5 choices. This year Kobe was left off 13 writers top 5 choices.

I supported Nash last season, but two in a row seems a bit much. Picking a suitable MVP is an art, and you should respect the history of the game in doing so. 20 years from now, people are going to look at the record books and find that players like Shaq and Dream had ONE MVP award, while Steve Nash won it back to back. And if Nash never makes it into the FInals (which, let's be honest, is quite possible) people are really going to be scratching their heads over this. Regarding the issue of race, ESPN contributor John Hollinger said he think it isn't race but size that's the big factor. He points to Iverson (probably the least "white" player in the league) being voted in over Shaq. Or, even Nate Robinson "stealing" the dunk contest this season. Media-types love rooting for the undersized players, and that bias is much more explicit than any racial prejudice.
Well what I find interesting is the majority of former players, current players, and coaches all have said Kobe Bryant should be the MVP, and most have said it's not even close. Here's what BJ Armstrong had to say about the MVP Award ... <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">B.J. Armstrong: It's very interesting, the criteria of a most valuable player. But in order to understand the game, you have to have been in the game. As a former player, when you start evaluating the MVP in a league, there's only one thing to consider - the best. There's nothing about making your teammates better, just the best. Let's hope that 10 years from now we don't look back and see that we didn't give the best player the MVP, which is Kobe Bryant, because of some rhetoric and hype. </div>

At what point in the season did that happen?
I think midway, when people realized what Kobe was doing with then an inconsistent supporting cast. This is why I think more than the media should vote. Nash didn't deserve it, as once again I'm flipping my decision. I'd take LeBron, Dirk, or Kobe over him as the MVP.

What's been different this season is the Lakers are back to winning in again, without Shaq.

Last year I don't think anyone outside of LA considered Kobe the best overall. And the years preceding that, it was Duncan or Garnett. And before that, it had to be Shaq. Kobe's elevation to the very top (by consensus) must have happened in the middle of this season, probably just after the 81 point game.

The majority didn't consider him the best like now, but a lot still did or put him on an equal level with those two.
