<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">CHINA'S 22-year-old center Tang Zhengdong will show off his skills starting tomorrow at trials for the National Basketball Association draft, marking his first step towards joining the world's most glamorous basketball league, Xinmin Evening News reported today.

The 2.13-meter player will take part in the trials from April 27 to May 2. Scouts from more than 10 NBA teams will evaluate all the players' performances during the 40-day trial and choose their favorites for the overall pick afterwards.

Tang, who plays for the Jiangsu Nangang team in the Chinese Basketball Association, will also attend a special training session held by the Los Angeles Lakers and the Toronto Raptors during his stay in the United States.

"This is a good opportunity for him to show his skills to the NBA bosses and hopefully, he will get a bigger chance to join the overall pick after the trial," Xia Song, Tang's agent, said, adding that the Toronto Raptors seem keen on Tang.

Toronto failed to make the playoffs yet again this season.

Tang, who played at the 2001 ABCD camp and was one of the top rebounders in China, was the Most Valuable Player in the 2003-2004 CBA season.

Tang withdrew from last year's draft as he did not meet the criteria, which requires a minimum age of 22 and at least two intercontinental match experiences.</div>

I watched Tang a few times, and he's unlike the breed of Chinese players in the NBA. Unlike Yao and Wang ZhiZhi, Tang ZhengDong isn't a finesse player. He has a mid range jumper, but is a bruiser down low with some solid post moves. There are a lot of American post players in the CBA who are also physical specimens but Tang was able to dominate them. Last summer I saw Tang's Jilin team play Yi Jianlian's team in the CBA Semifinals (I think) and Tang dominated Yi IMO. Yi at the time looked too weak to contend with Tang, whose nickname is "Shaq of the Orient".

Its good to hear that Toronto's aggressive in looking for these types of players now. He definitely seems to have achieved everything he can in China.
