    [IMG] RX FOR REX
It wouldn't be a football season if the Bears didn't use at least two quarterbacks, and they could have that chance later this season.

Quarterback Rex Grossman, who broke his left ankle during the preseason, could soon be ready for the regular season. Grossman will begin running next week and could be ready for practice in the next couple of weeks. He is now targeting the Nov. 27 game at Tampa Bay for his return.

Once he does return, the Bears still are planning to go with Kyle Orton. But no team has used more quarterbacks in recent seasons than the Bears, and if Orton should struggle, Chicago always could turn back to Grossman -- especially if it is competing for the NFC North title in a division that could be won with a 7-9 record.

But the fact that the Bears never placed Grossman on injured reserve, which would have sidelined him for the season, indicates that they had hopes for him for this year.

i think that Grossman will end up getting a shot, becuase the bears need to know if they should invest in another QB

No I can't see it unless Kyle plays really bad, if he plays like he did yesterday then he will stay. They don't need to invest. They have got two right now and keep Blake or Kittner or else release Grossman and keep kittner and Blake.

Grossman may have to settle for being a back up for a while.

I agree 100% I also think that they should stick with Orton for the future and cut or trade Grossman. Orton is playing to well and actually is one of many reasons why Bear fans have a reason to cheer for a divsion title this season.

If Orton keeps winning (or just NOT losing), then he'll stay in.

Even if they start losing and the chance of a playoff spot is gone, they might stick with him. It is if they are losing with a chance of a playoff spot up for grabs they will go to Rex

Improving Grossman eager to return from ankle injury
    By Larry Mayer
    October 25, 2005

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Watching practice through a window in the Bears training room while he rehabilitates his injured left ankle, Rex Grossman feels like a kid who has to stay in for recess.
But the third-year quarterback is hopeful that his situation will soon change. Grossman reports that he's on schedule to return in time to play in the Nov. 27 game in Tampa if needed.

Rex Grossman joined the Bears as the 22nd overall pick in the 2003 draft.
"I'm progressing the way I should be," Grossman said. "I'm right on schedule and my goal is still the Tampa game, to be cleared and be able to play and put this behind me.

"I'm anxious, that's all I know. I can't wait to get out there and practice and see where I am."

Grossman sustained a serious leg injury for the second straight year when he broke his ankle Aug. 12 in a preseason game in Indianapolis. The 2003 first-round draft pick from Florida was in the process of rebounding from a torn right ACL that forced him to miss the final 13 games in 2004.

Grossman meets with the other Bears quarterbacks to watch film and review the game plan in the morning before rehabilitating his injury while his teammates practice.

He has already been throwing on the side in an effort to regain the range of motion in his shoulder and is more concerned with his legs than his arm as he continues to work toward returning to practice.

"It shouldn't take too long for me to get back into the rhythm of throwing," he said. "That's not a huge hurdle for me. Just creating that mobility and being able to move around, that's probably going to be the toughest hurdle."

Orton Nominated for Rookie of the Week
Quarterback Kyle Orton has been nominated for the Diet Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week award after completing 15 of 29 passes for 145 yards and one touchdowns in the Bears' 10-6 victory over Baltimore. Voting will end on Thursday.

At this point, it is unclear when or if Grossman will reclaim his starting job from Kyle Orton.

In a response to a fan's question on ChicagoBears.com, coach Lovie Smith said: "As a general rule with any player coming back, once the player is healthy we put him into the mix. Then we'll just start evaluating him from there and comparing him with who we have available.

"The important thing is getting a healthy Rex Grossman back. We know he's a good football player. Once we get him back, we'll look at our situation and see exactly what position (on the depth chart) he should come in at and then go from there."
