<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Fiyah:</div><div class="quote_post">You have to realize that scoring 13 points in 35 seconds, as amazing as it is, has ALOT to do with luck as it has to do with skill. First you have to get hot... then you have to be in a position to get the ball back quickly in multiple possessions... then you actually have to be able to get the ball and then jack up a shot. 81 points over an entire game is just incredible. Is luck involved? yes... but the longer you have to keep up the incredible the less and less it becomes a matter of luck. Look at it this way... is it absolutely impossible for an average perimeter player in the NBA to score 13 points in 35 seconds if he is on fire?! No. But even an on fire great player in the NBA may not be able to score 81 points because of the sheer physicality of it. Many people don't realize what it takes to take over 45 shots in an NBA game under duress, while also playing defense at the other end. There is absolutely no luck in that... you can't be autistic and throw up 45 shots in a game, much less make 60% of them.</div> What you explained about T-Mac is probably why he put this topic up, it's tough like you said.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting NTC187:</div><div class="quote_post">Unlikely T-Mac will score 81? He had a game in his final Orlando season where he scored 40 points in the first half, but injured his finger and didnt return for the second. So he is probally capable of it. He just needs the right situation like how Kobe got.</div> Agreed. To an extent. Kobe definately had luck on his side in terms of the conditions opening up for him to be able to do what he did. He had to be on fire and in the zone... playing in a tight enough game... the green light to shoot all he wants... etc. Could those same conditions open up for T-Mac or Lebron or Wade? Sure. It is possible. But lets think on this for a second... in the last 5 years of NBA basketball Kobe has scored 81 points in a game... 62 points to outsocre an entire team in 3 quarters by himself... tied the NBA record for most consecutive 3s and tied the record for most 3s in a game... pulled off unlikely and incredible comebacks to win games... Where I am going with this is that Kobe Bryant has a knack for doing the incredible. No one player in this era of basketball has done as many amazing things. There is something special about certain players like Jordan and Kobe that allow them to be able to do certain things that other players may be physically capable of but probably will never do in their careers because they don't even fathom they can do it or just don't have the mental capacity to pull it off.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting SP23:</div><div class="quote_post">What you explained about T-Mac is probably why he put this topic up, it's tough like you said.</div> Its IMPROBABLE in terms of luck yes. Is it tough. No. He hoisted up three after three and they went in. Could I have done it with enough luck? Yes. Could you have? Yes. Could any NBA player have. Sure. Now ask youself that same question about taking 45 shots in a 48 minute period while playing at an NBA level. No matter how lucky I was... I cannot take 45 jump shots while racing back and forth up the court, taking physical punishment, doling out physical punishment etc. Sheesh... I may not even be able to take 45 jump shots by myself

I'm not saying Kobe's wasn't great either I was just talking about T-Mac's. I get what your saying though.
Luck was involved in both. Kobe was fortunate that he got on a hot streak against a terrible defensive team who's "best" defensive player (Mo Peterson) was in foul trouble. He was fortunate that the game situation allowed him to take virtually every shot down the floor for nearly two full quarters. Both feats were incredible -- I think Kobe's will be remembered longer. For pure drama, though, I'd pick the 13 in 35s.

But one could be repeated with sheer luck... the other might not be repeatable luck or not. Also one requires more luck and less skill... the other being was for too long a time for luck to be as huge a factor. I could probably roll 5 6s in a row with a single die... but what are my chances of rolling 15 in a row? Or 30? As for the dramatics. It would probably depend on your affinity to either the teams involved or the players. Being a Laker and Kobe fan you can see why the 81 point game was way more dramatic for me.
i'd say T-mac 13 points in 35 seconds because houston was down by 12points with 35 seconds remaining an scoring 13 points in 35 seconds is just outstanding.. to lead your team back with about half a minute left with over a 10 point deficit is just too fake to be real. thats why its amazing. 4 three pointers including one and 1. thats just too tight. i know that kobe's 81 was also amazing, but since t-mac's had to do with a lot of scoring in a little time to lead his team to a victory over a good team was just unbelievable.
Here are Kobe's offensive plays (also includes rebounds). Green is positive plays, red is negative plays. I underlined made and missed field goals as well. As you can see, he was 11-14 from the field in the third quarter, but cooled off in the fourth to 7-13. He made a ton of free throws in the fourth to keep the scoring rate up however. He hit 11 of 12 field goals during a 10 minute stretch in the third quarter, including 8 in a row. He scored 18 points in a five minute stretch in the third quarter, and he scored 20 points in his last 6 minutes. <div class='codetop'>CODE</div><div class='codemain'><br/><br/>THIRD T-Mac's because it was against the Championship team that season. I think if Lebron, T-Mac, Wade got hot and played against the Raptors bad 1 on 1 defense, scoring 81 wouldn't be that hard. T-Mac had a 62 point game, and shot terribly from the FT line. If he was on from the line, he would have hit 70 easily. He has had a 40 point half in Orlando as well. If it were an okay defensive team, like at least the Cavs, then I would have said Kobe's.
I'll go w/ T-Mac's performance also... Not taking anything away from Kobe's performance, but if you were watching the game through the Raptor's broadcast you would've understood why he went off like that. At the end of half-time you would've heard the Raps assistant coach discussing the strategy for the second half, which was basically to let Kobe go off, while focusing on stopping the rest of the team. So keeping this in mind and the fact that the Raps are the second worst defensive team in the league and their best perimeter defender was in foul trouble, it's no wonder Kobe went buck wild like that. And even when it was painfully obvious that the strategy wasn't working, they still continued to go through with it (they never tried denying him the ball and they waited for him to put the ball on the floor before doubling).... It's still a tough comparison to make, but considering T-Mac's was against the best team in the league (not to mention one of the best defenses in the league), I'd have to give his performance the edge.....
I would have to say T-Mac's performance. kobe scored 81 on Toronto, and he was selfish with the ball the entire game, after a while Toronto didn't even bother trying, they just let him through. T-Mac's performance was down on the clutch and his team was down, theres more pressure involved in that, Kobe was just downright selfish that game. Kobe had the entire 4 quarters to do that as well, like they can all score obviously, but scoring under pressure like T-Mac with consistency for that game was definitely superior. T-Mac on Spurs Kobe on Toronto Clear difference between Spurs and Toronto? Yes Who was under more pressure Kobe or McGrady? Mcgrady Enough said, Kobe always overscores regardless. That shouldnt be any different

Even the 13 pts in 35 seconds, did Tmac passed the ball? so please stop with this selfish crap. Great players are selfish in some degree, especially the game has a chance for history. Even I'm a huge Kobe's fan, I said 13 pts in 35 seconds because it was against the Spurs and were down by 12.

I meen he is a streaky shooter and as youve seen he can go in the zone(13 in 35), like Kobe does and make the Basket seem like a swimming pool. Id like to see him to go back to his 04 form and try and get over this lingering back injury, then he might be back in it. Houston fans i dont know how you couldve dealt with it! seriously! The one thing that i want to see if Kobe do it again. He has been in the zone a few times, 62 in 3, 81, this season and i feel he could do it again. Maybe even improve on his 81???? Kobes feat took alot more then T-macs, but both needed to do it to WIN the game. And both did! Kobes needed to be stretched to a full game, Tmac had to turn it on late. Just the fact that ive tried to do the same in a domestic game and only scored 32....i wasnt even half way there. 13 in 35 was impressive but the second highest in NBA History, cant go past it, Kobes 81. Hopefully he adds a couple more 90s in there!

In the first half he tried getting his teammates involved but none of them were producing and as a result, they were getting blown out by the lowly Raptors on their own home court. At the start of the third he still tried getting them involved but nothing positive transpired from it, so that's when he decided to take over. And after he started racking up the points, his teammates became more passive and the Raptors were letting him do whatever he wanted, so what else could Kobe do?? The crowd wanted him to score, his teammates wanted him to score, and the Raptors were allowing him to score.... It's almost as if he had no other option but to be selfish

I don't think McGrady could get 81. I think he might get 70 max. By the way if McGrady scored 81 you guys would be saying McGrady is the best scorer in the league and all that other stuff. But since Kobe did it he's selfish.
Kobe's 81 was better. McGrady's was very good though. I don't think McGrady could score 81. He's even been quoted saying that. His career high is 62.
I wouldn't call Kobe's performance selfish. The team was losing after the first half, and if durvasa put up his shot record from the first 2 quarters, you'd see that he was struggling and being a bit passive. He was on fire in the 3rd though. The teammates knew their only chance to win was to ride his hot shooting. And they came out victorious.
